ECW: Christian's first night as champion
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: There's a new sheriff in town as Christian defeated Jack Swagger for the ECW Championship on Sunday at Backlash. But tonight, Christian has an ECW Original coming after his belt inside the World's Most Famous Arena. Should be a good one!
And we are "LIVE!" from New York City. Josh Mathews and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Tony Chimel immediately brings out the new champ, Christian. He says his title win is sinking in right now. He says he knows Jack Swagger is here, so he invites him out to interrupt him. Instead, Tommy Dreamer's music hits and he comes out. He says finally ECW has a champion that represents what the brand is all about. He says that before Christian came to ECW, he made a promise to win the ECW title or walk away. Now he only has six weeks to go. So he's here to challenge Christian for the ECW Championship.
Christian says won't don't they do it tonight. Dreamer likes it, but that's Swagger's cue to hit the ring. Swagger says the only reason Christian is champion is because he cheated and THAT'S NOT FAIR! He says it's a joke that Dreamer thinks he deserves a title match. He then says he's envoking his rematch clause at Judgment Day and no one is getting a championship match before he does.
And that is Tiffany's cue to hit the ramp. She says Swagger does have a title match at Judgment Day, but they will have an ECW Championship match here tonight. Dreamer and Christian shake hands.
Match #1 - Tyson Kidd (Calgary, Alberta) vs. Finlay (Belfast, Northern Ireland)
Finlay locks Kidd in a half-crab. Kidd tries for the ropes but Finlay pulls him back to the middle twice. Finlay gives it up and clotheslines Kidd straight out of the ring.
We're back and Finlay drops a knee on Kidd that gets him a two count. But just like that Kidd takes over by working on Finlay's left leg. He is really working it, yelling out, "I break his leg, I'll break it!"
Finlay gets out and starts to fire up. He hits a powerslam but Kidd makes it out at two. He puts him up for the Celtic Cross but his leg gives out. Kidd sends him to the outside and goes for a baseball slide but Finlay traps him in the apron and beats on him.
They get back in the ring and Natalya distracts the referee, allowing Kidd to grab the Shillelagh. He cracks Finlay with it and that's all she wrote.
Winner via pinfall: Tyson Kidd
Vladimir Kozlov is out on the stage in full soldier attire. The lights dim and he speaks. He says there in no one in ECW or Double-Double-E that can compete with in. It's only a matter of time until he achieves global domination.
Well, that was fun.
Then the announcers swing it to Gregory Helms (complete with suit) to interview Evan Bourne. He talks about the changes from the draft and that he's not the only person with championship aspirations. Before he gets too far, Paul Burchill interrupts and says Tiffany has granted him a rematch with Bourne for Superstars on Thursday. Last week he got lucky, this week, his luck is gonna run out. Helms adds a "whassupwitdat" after Burchill leaves.
Match #2 - ECW Championship - (c) Christian (Toronto, Ontario) vs. Tommy Dreamer (Yonkers, N.Y.)
Some mat wrestling in the early going. A lot of respect between both men. In booking straight out of the early-going of Sunday's Last Man Standing match, both men go for their finishers but each easily escape.
We're back and Dreamer has just gone shoulder-first into the ring post. Christian goes to work on the left arm and shoulder of Dreamer. Christian rings Dreamer's arm on the post and goes to the top and hits a missile dropkick for two. He works the arm some more and goes back to the top but Dreamer stops him, climbs up and superplex's the champion. They are both down. Dreamer crawls for the cover but only gets two.
Dreamer hits a running clothesline that sends both men tumbling to the floor. They both barely make it back into the ring on time. Christian goes back to the top again but Dreamer hits him in the gut on the way down. Dreamer hits a Scorpian Death Drop but Christian kicks out at two.
They trade near falls before Dreamer goes for the DDT but Christian runs him into the corner. He comes out and eats a vicious clothesline that sends him head-over-heels.
Dreamer sets Christian up in the tree of woe but before he can hit the running dropkick, Jack Swagger comes out of nowhere to attack Dreamer.
Winner via disqualification AND STILL ECW Champion: Christian
After taking out Dreamer, he turns his focus to Christian, hitting the gut-wrench powerbomb on the champion. Dreamer stands over both men as the show goes off the air.
