This week's episode of Smackdown emanates from the UK, with a loaded card that
hopefully will be the last one to include Raw superstars. Let's see who had
a jolly good time in the land of the queen.
Edge starts us off this week, cutting a promo on John Cena, quite possibly
the best of his career. Seriously, YouTube it right now if you missed it.
Match 1 - CM Punk/Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy/Kane
Lita's former fiances join forces. Interesting. Jeff's sporting the paint tonight
by the way.
Kane is really out of place here and should have been replaced by John Morrison
for what could have been a fantastic high-flying match. As is, the bout isn't
bad, but it could've been better. As is, Matt gets the pin on Jeff (third consecutive
as JR and TG note).
Winners: Matt Hardy/Kane
We then get a video package of the Randy Orton/Triple H feud. Yippee.
Back to the ring, Big Show talks about his last match on Smackdown being against
the Undertaker.
Match 2 - Big Show vs. Undertaker
Thank god this is the last one we'll see for a while. I enjoy the occasional
Show/'Taker match, but you can't do it as often as WWE has done.
The two, to their credit, put it all out for the fans tonight in a pretty good
bout, which Show wins after two Roaring Fists (the last one being to the back
of 'Taker's skull) leads to a ref stoppage.
Winner: Big Show
Post-match, 'Taker regains his bearings and gets a couple shots in on Show.
Match 3 - Maryse vs. Gail Kim (Divas Championship)
Indeed friends, Canadian girls kick ass.
Maryse again shows some improvement in the ring, but is clearly outclassed
by Gail, who, among other moves, pulls off a nice Hurricanrana. Maryse pulls
off the win in the end with a harsh snapping DDT, nicknamed The French Kiss.
Works for me.
Winner: Maryse
Backstage, Jeff Hardy cuts a promo on Matt. This was another good promo by
Jeff, who showed real passion, something that has been hit and miss over the
last few weeks.
Before we get to the next match, we look at clips from, of all places, The
View, where they talk about MVP. Apparently one of the hosts will be on SD!
next week. Oy.
Match 4 - MVP vs. Chavo Guerrero
Solid match here before both men head to Raw. MVP finishes with the Driveby.
Winner: MVP
Before we break, Dolph Ziggler comes out and cuts a strong promo on MVP. If
there's any wrestler that needs a new name, it is indeed Ziggler.
Next up, we flashback to Zuperstars for a John Cena promo.
Match 5- Batista/Shane McMahon vs. Priceless
Some good tag team action here, including the faces using the Demolition Decapitation,
and Rhodes holding McMahon down while DiBiase pulls off The Warrior's Way. Nice.
Near the end, DiBiase pushes McMahon into Batista which causes a bit of arguing
before Batista gets the duke with a huge spinebuster.
Winners: Batista/Shane McMahon
Well, it was another strong show for SD!, with good ring action and better
than expected promos. We'll see a new Smackdown next week after Backlash, as
the Draft changes will be in full effect (hopefully). See you next week.
