Smackdown: MVP and Hardy flying high into Mania
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

Well Iím not going to lie to you folks, this was pretty much a WrestleMania 25 recap show. There are three matches on tap for tonight including an athletic spectacle featuring MVP and Shelton Benjamin for the United States championship. With Mania a mere 48 hours away let's get to the report!

Match 1: Maryse & Michelle McCool vs. Gail Kim & Maria

A monster pop for Maria! Itís nice to have a solid wrestler back in the womenís division like Gail Kim. McCool manhandles Maria out of the gate until she is distracted by Kim on the apron, which allows Maria to turn things around temporarily. Gail finally gets in there and runs wild all over both blondes. An impressive cross arm reverse neck breaker puts Maryse down for the three count. Gail Kim looked extremely impressive.

WINNERS: Gail Kim & Maria

MVP is interviewed back in the locker room saying that tonight he will defend his U.S. title against Shelton Benjamin and then go on to win Money in the Bank. Benjamin interrupts him and tells the champ that he will beat him to a pulp tonight.

Lots of video recap for various WrestleMania matches

A vignette video of Edge is shown sitting holding his belt. He is deadly serious and discusses the Big Show/Vickie situation as well as John Cena.

Raw highlights of the Diva multi tag match is shown.

Match 2: United States Championship- MVP (c) vs. Shelton Benjamin

Finally another match! Wow that was a lot of recaps. The two combatants start off at a feverish pace, with Benjamin scoring a near fall after powerbombing MVP into the top turnbuckle. Benjamin hones in on the champion as he delivers kicks, submission holds and suplexes. MVP mounts a comeback before Benjamin hits an incredible looking top rope Blockbuster for a count of two. Soon after the MVP nails The Play Maker to retain his gold.

WINNER: MVP

Match 3: Main Event - Jeff Hardy vs. Eziekel Jackson w/ The Brian Kendrick

Yup thatís right, only three matches and this is the main event. I really hope Kendrick gets into a decent program following Mania as he is on the cusp of taking that next step. Hardy has his serpent makeup on and after recovering from an early powerslam takes charge. Jackson works a bear hug, which Hardy eventually escapes from and hits the Whisper in the Wind. Following a tussle on the outside Jeff is able to connect with the Twist of Fate and The Swanton Bomb for a 1-2-3.

WINNER: Jeff Hardy

Well the program was pretty much a WrestleMania recap show. Make sure to check out the SLAM! Wrestling staffís predictions for the 25th Anniversary of Mania on the site. Happy WRESTLEMANIA everyone!
