Honky Tonk Man not so cocky, bad

There's a rumour floating around that The Honky Tonk Man will soon be going into the WWE Hall of Fame.

While Honky admits he'll be in Houston for Wrestlemania and Hall of Fame ceremonies, he says if he's going to be inducted, he hasn't heard about it.

"I'll be present at the Hall of Fame, just watching," he says.

So, what if he ever got the call?

"It'd be quite an honour ... to be in there with the legends of wrestling and the entertainment business," he says.

"But when you start comparing yourself to Harley Race, Dory and Terry Funk and Nick Bockwinkel ... I don't put myself on that same level."

You may think "he's cool, he's cocky and he's bad," Honky, who held the Intercontinental title for a record 64 weeks, insists: "I'm just a shy, humble country boy. Those guys are legends to me and I treat them that way."

Honky loved his recent return to TV as a catalyst to Santino Marella.

"It was great," says Honky. "I wish he'd lasted longer (as Intercontinental champion). It would have been good to go to Wrestlemania and maybe have a real match with him."

Honky will return to the area Sunday, for a 2 p.m. show at Cornwall's Murphy's Inn (917 Second St. W.), where he'll face Ben McCully.

Honky still loves getting into the ring.

"I make a decent living. If you're going to be grumpy, stay home. If I didn't have fun, I wouldn't do it."

AROUND THE RING

At Sunday's No Way Out pay-per-view, Edge was out early in the Smackdown! Elimination Chamber match, with Triple H pinning Undertaker to win the WWE title. But after an attack on Kofi Kingston, Edge was entered into the RAW Elimination Chamber match and pinned Rey Mysterio to win the world title. Also, Shawn Michaels won his freedom from JBL ... Terry and Dory Funk Jr., Steve Austin, Bill Watts, Ricky Steamboat and the Von Erich family will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame ... Look for Austin on RAW soon. And could Hulk Hogan be in line for a Wrestlemania match?
