Impact: Mafia dominates yet again
By CHRIS & BRYAN SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
On the last episode of Impact, the Frontline took a major step forward, with the returns of Brother Ray and Petey Williams. This week, the war continues, as AJ Styles takes on Kurt Angle in a Tables Match. Plus, Scott Steiner and Booker T tangle with Eric Young and Petey Williams in a tag team elimination match. All this and more on Impact!
The show began with a package, highlighting the war between the Frontline and the Main Event Mafia, including the return of Brother Ray and the challenges made by Team 3D.
Mike Tenay and Don West did the usual intro and rundown of the card.
Match One - TNA X Division Championship Fatal Four Way Match - Alex Shelley (C) vs. Chris Sabin vs. Sheik Abdul Bashir vs. Sonjay Dutt w/ So Cal Val
This was a good match. So Cal Val got involved, but even her help wasn't enough to secure Sonjay Dutt the win, as Alex Shelley caught him in an octopus roll-up to get the victory.
Winner Via Pinfall and STILL TNA X Division Champion - Alex Shelley
After the match, Sharmell, who was at ringside, grabbed referee, Shane Sewell and told him that Booker T wanted to see him right away. Meanwhile, Scott Steiner, Kurt Angle and Sting were shown making their way into the Impact Zone.
Back in the locker room area, Booker T and Sharmell were with referee Shane Sewell. Booker complained about Sewell putting his hands on him and asked for a favor, since Sewell was refereeing the match that he and Steiner would be having against Eric Young and Petey Williams. Booker told Sewell that at the end of the tag team elimination match, it had to be them versus Williams. Booker said if Sewell did the right thing, he would be in the Main Event Mafia, because there's dishes and cars that need to be washed. Booker tried to confirm a deal, but Sewell just walked away.
Kurt Angle, Scott Steiner and Sting then made their way into the Impact Zone. Angle pointed out that Team 3D and Mick Foley were out of the country, but that they would get theirs next week. Angle went on a rant, saying that they would take care of Petey Williams and AJ Styles tonight and said that they weren't going to accept Team 3D's challenges. Sting interrupted and said that Angle can't speak for him. Jim Cornette came out and said that at Against All Odds, it will be a Fatal Four Way between Sting, Kurt Angle, Brother Ray and Brother Devon for the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Cornette points out Alex Shelley's title defense as a good example of how teamwork can be employed and how someone has to sacrifice in the end. Cornette feels confident that Team 3D knows how to do that, but asked Angle and Sting if they would be able to make it through.
After a commercial break, a package was shown to highlight the history between Petey Williams and Scott Steiner.
Lauren spoke to Petey Williams, who promised to take care of Scott Steiner later on.
Mike Tenay and Don West spoke to Team 3D via satellite from Japan. They talked about winning the New Japan tag team titles and went on to talk about the fatal four way match at Against All Odds. Brother Ray said he would do what he had to do to get to Sting. When asked who would go after the title, the audio went out and they went to a commercial break.
Jeremy Borash was shown in the Main Event Mafia's locker room. He asked about what happened between Sting and Kurt Angle. Sting told him that it's all about respect and Borash is disrespecting them by trying to stir the pot. Scott Steiner got all pumped up and said that he would be responsible for taking out Petey Williams and Eric Young later on.
TNA Rough Cuts was shown on Sojournor Bolt.
Match Two - Sojournor Bolt vs. ODB
ODB had things going her way, when Awesome Kong came out and proceeded to beat on her, hitting an Implant Buster. Taylor Wilde and Roxxi came out to make the save and sent the Kong-Tourage running.
Winner Via DQ - ODB
Lauren spoke to "Sarah Palin," who was jumped from behind by the Beautiful People and beaten up, until Cute Kip stepped in and said that she had enough.
Match Three - Tag Team Elimination Match - Booker T and Scott Steiner w/ Sharmell vs. Eric Young and Petey Williams
This was pretty much a beatdown on the Frontline, with Eric Young getting eliminated first via the Axe Kick and Petey Williams suffering the same fate later on. After the match, referee Shane Sewell looked upset with Booker T and Scott Steiner for how they handled things. Booker slapped Sewell, which got Sewell all fired up and on the attack. Steiner was able to take him down, as Booker T recovered and hit a huge Bookend, followed by some punches, before referee Earl Hebner broke things up.
Winners Via Pinfall - Booker T and Scott Steiner
A package was shown highlighting the history between Abyss and Matt Morgan.
Lauren spoke to Abyss and Matt Morgan in the ring. Abyss said that they would put their fighting behind them and capture the TNA Tag Team Championships. He picked up Lauren in a hug and then apologized for swinging her around.
Match Four - First Blood Match - Abyss and Matt Morgan vs. Beer Money Inc. (James Storm and Robert Roode) w/ Jackie Moore
This was a back and forth match. Beer Money Inc. attempted to bust Matt Morgan open with a chairshot, but it was batted away. Morgan then took the chair, as James Storm and Robert Roode scurried away and cracked Abyss with it, busting him open and ending the match. After the match, Morgan continued his beatdown on Abyss and told him that it was his fault. TNA security came out and after getting thrown around, were finally able to gain some control over the situation.
Winners Via Drawing First Blood - Beer Money Inc. (James Storm and Robert Roode)
Back from a commercial break, the beatdown of Abyss was shown again, as well as TNA security helping Abyss out.
A package was shown to highlight the history between Kurt Angle and AJ Styles.
Jeremy Borash spoke to Kurt Angle, who said that he was going to defeat AJ Styles in the Tables match. Borash asked Angle about Sting and Angle just stared at him before walking away.
Match Five - Tables Match - AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle
This was a great match. This match went back and forth and was pretty much an all out brawl. Kurt Angle was able to fight off the attack of AJ Styles and plant him with an Angle Slam through the table to get the win.
Winner Via Putting His Opponent Through The Table - Kurt Angle
After the match, Kurt Angle continued his attack on AJ Styles, wrapping a chair around Styles' ankle and smashing it. Angle then locked in the anklelock and pulled away, before grabbing the mic and getting behind the announce table. Angle asked Mike Tenay and Don West if they were afraid of getting hit. Angle then said that the Main Event Mafia was going to mark their territory and take over. He stood on top of the announce table and celebrated to round out another episode of Impact.
