Smackdown: Triple H falls in final jeopardy
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

It is triple jeopardy night for The Game as he feels the wrath of general manager Vickie Guerrero. Triple H will have to face unknown opponents in a tables match, handicap match, and last man standing match. Besides that barrage of carnage we also get to witness possibly the best Smackdown encounter of the year between The Undertaker and Shelton Benjamin. Coming to you from East Rutherford, New Jersey lets get to the report!

Match 1: Tables Match- Triple H vs. John Morrison

The Game’s long night begins with a tables match, but Triple H comes out of the gate hot, and tries to put Morrison through a table early. John rebuffs the attempt by making the former world champ taste some steel steps. Triple H has tables set up in and out of the ring with Morrison escaping numerous times. About 4 minutes in The Game chucks John off the top turnbuckle to the outside and through the table to survive his first of three battles this evening. Chavo Guerrero jumps HHH from behing and rams him head first through a table leaning in the corner.

WINNER: Triple H

Backstage GM Vickie Guerrero confronts Triple H and reminds him of his tribulations yet to come tonight.

Match 2: Non-title- Shelton Benjamin (c) vs. The Undertaker

Undertaker dominates the first portion of the match until after the commercial break when a chop block by Benjamin turns the tide. The Dead Man is now working on a bad left leg now, however, he is still able to score a near fall following a leg drop. Shelton narrowly squirms out of the last ride and gets a two off of a DDT. Taker catches Benjamin in a tombstone following a chokeslam moments before to pick up the win. This was an impressive technically sound encounter.

WINNER: The Undertaker

Police footage is shown of Jeff Hardy and his girlfriend’s apparent hit and run accident. JR says that we will hear from Hardy later on in the show. Tazz interviewed Edge earlier in the night and The Rated R Superstar says it looks like the black cloud that hung over Jeff’s head in ’08 is continuing in the new year.

Match 3: Michelle McCool & Victoria vs. The Bella Twins (Nikki & Brie)

Victoria delivers an impressive flip over the top rope leg drop on one of The Bella Twins and follows that up with some power moves. She misses a picture perfect moonsault, and Nikki gets the pinfall with an Oklahoma roll. After the bell Michelle snaps and beats the daylights out of her partner Victoria.

WINNERS: The Bella Twins

Match 4: Handicap Match- Triple H vs. Chavo Guerrero & The Miz

Miz begins this handicap match, but decides to quickly tag out once Triple H grabbed the early momentum. Some referee distraction is just what the doctor ordered for the heels as they use quick tags to temporarily isolate the former heavyweight champion. The Game has been favouring that left arm the entire match. Miz goes to make a tag, however, Chavo backs away. From their it is academic as The Miz falls to The Pedigree. GM Vickie comes on the big screen after the bell and announces that Triple H will be facing The Big Show in the last man standing match.

WINNER: Triple H

It is time for MVP’s VIP Lounge…a much less confident MVP. His guest is Ken Kennedy. Mr. Kennedy says he’s trying to inspire MVP and that it is embarrassing how he keeps losing. Suddenly the ring crew comes in repossess his VIP furniture. Kennedy leaves and the Boogeyman attacks MVP.

Match 5: WWE Tag Team Championship- Carlito & Primo (c) vs. The Brian Kendrick & Ezekiel Jackson

Primo and the monster Ezekial start things off and Jackson uses his power early to work over the brothers. Wow have the breaks been put on Kendrick’s push over the last few months or what? He looked poised to break through with the personality and in ring ability, but for some reason any big program has been put on hold. Jackson rag dolls Primo in a bear hug and Kendrick follows that up with a modified cobra/camel clutch. After a near fall by Brian, Carlito is able to hit The Back Cracker and retain their tag team gold.

WINNERS: Carlito & Primo

Cell phone footage of the hit and run accident is shown and then an earlier recorded interview with Jeff Hardy. Hardy says he’s a bit banged up but will be good to go next week.

Match 6: Last Man Standing Match- Triple H vs. The Big Show

Big Show corners HHH and immediately goes after that injured left arm. Remember in this match the loser is the one who cannot rise by the count of ten. Following the commercial break Show continues to decimate The Game with headbutts, punches, and the use of steel steps. Triple H looks to be making a comeback with a pair of clotheslines, but that is cut short by a giant clothesline from his opponent. HHH cuts it close by getting up numerous times at the count of eight and nine. Somehow The Game scores a Pedigree and both Superstars narrowly rise at nine. The action spills to the outside and Big Show is able to chokeslam The Cerebral Assasin onto the announce table (which did not break). Against all odds Triple H gets up yet again! Show measures him and delivers the big knockout punch, and this finally keeps The Game down for the count. GM Vickie stands proudly at the top of the ramp and observes the devastation that her giant unleashed.

WINNER: Big Show
