ECW: Hardy, Henry renew rivalry
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling

Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: After a thrilling feud over the ECW Championship during the summer, Matt Hardy and Mark Henry rekindle their rivalry tonight. Plus, John Morrison and The Miz battle Finlay and the Boogeyman in a No Disqualification match. Should be a good one!

Man, oh, man is this show off to a great start, as World Tag Team Champions John Morrison and The Miz are in the ring for another edition of The Dirt Sheet!

They run down their list of accomplishments in 2008 (and it's quite the laundry list). It's time to share their New Year's Resolutions. Miz will give a hat to the Smithsonian. Morrison wants abs 11 and 12 to pop out. But they both want to win the Royal Rumble and go onto WrestleMania.

They say other superstars have goals. Evan Bourne wants to move out of his mother's basement. John Cena wants to take action lessons so his next movie isn't as terrible as The Marine. Batista will start wearing a helmet to the ring so he doesn't get a concussion. Triple H resolves to buy a family-size nasal douche. Finlay will stop wearing tighty-whiteies so his next son isn't a deformed Leprechaun (Morrison says this is more of a temperature issue). They make fun of Finlay and Hornswaggle some more when they come to the ring. Hornswaggle is leading the charge and is upset.

Morrison and Miz throw some dog terms at him. Hornswaggle speaks some gibberish into the mic then Finlay attacks Morrison. Miz counters and then they go to work on Finlay. Hornswaggle goes under the ring. They go to look under the ring when Boogeyman's music hits. He runs them off.

And we are TAPED! from Manchester, N.H. 2008 Slammy Award winners for "Announce Team of the Year" Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).

Match #1 - Mark Henry (Silsbee, Texas) vs. Matt Hardy (Cameron, N.C.)

Henry's power is on display in the early going. Hardy, for some unknown reason, challenges Henry to a test of strength, but it's a double-cross, as Hardy kicks him in the stomach. Hardy goes off the ropes, but angry Mark lands a boot the face.

After some more displays of power, Henry goes to work with a chinlock. He goes for a press slam, but Hardy gets out, but only eats an elbow. Hardy comes right back, but Tony Atlas distracts Hardy in the corner, allowing Henry to hit a big splash. He follows this up with a bonzai drop, but Hardy gets his foot on the bottom rope.

Henry is still firmly in control, working Hardy over to the body. Henry locks in a bear hug and then slams Hardy into the corner. With Hardy down near the ropes, Henry steps on Hardy and uses the ropes for some extra leverage. Henry then hits two vicious kicks to the ribs. Hardy tries to climb up using the ropes, but when he is between the bottom and middle rope, Henry slingshots him right into the middle rope.

They run the ropes and Hardy goes for a sunset flip, but to no avail. Henry tries to sit down on Hardy, but he moves. From there, Hardy goes to work, hitting two elbows and a Side Effect for two. Atlas gets on the apron and Hardy knocks him down.

Hardy ducks a clothesline and goes for the Twist of Fate, but Henry pushes him right off and right into the arms of the No. 1 Contender Jack Swagger, who came out of nowhere and hits the Swagger Bomb on Hardy.

Winner via disqualification: Matt Hardy

Obviously, Henry no likely this development, so he continues to beat down Hardy, hitting the World's Strongest Slam. Henry stares up the ramp at Swagger.

Coming up later tonight, it's a No Disqualification match pitting John Morrison and The Miz against Finlay and the Boogeyman. Whatever happened to Extreme Rules?

Match #2 - Paul Burchill (Chelsea, England) vs. DJ Gabriel (England)

Yes.

It appears, judging by WWE.com, that Burchill and Katie Lea are now on ECW.

This is Gabriel's first big test in ECW and it doesn't go well early, as Burchill takes control early, landing a vicious knee to the face in the early going. He sends Gabriel into the corner, but Gabriel responds with two back elbows to the charging Burchill. Gabriel comes out of the corner only to eat a clothesline.

Gabriel, though, comes back and slingshots Burchill into the corner. It doesn't last long, though, as Burchill quickly regains the upper hand. Gabriel, though, hits a ribbreaker and goes for the flying uppercut, but Burchill yanks him off the ropes.

Burchill goes for a hold, but Gabriel takes him down and rolls through for a surprise cover.

Winner via pinfall: DJ Gabriel

Boogeyman is backstage singing to an unfortunate worm when an upset Hornswaggle comes in and circles him. That match is coming up shortly.

Match #3 - Finlay (Belfast, Northern Ireland) & Boogeyman (The Bottomless Pit) vs. John Morrison (Los Angeles, Calif.) & The Miz (Cleveland, Ohio)

Hornswaggle quickly gets involved, as Finlay and Hornswaggle hit double atomic butt drops on the champions. They roll outside and Boogeyman hits a double clothesline. Boogey goes under the ring. Miz goes to the other side and Boogey tries to pull him under. Morrison saves him, but Hornswaggle goes through the ropes, knocking them down.

The success is not long lived. With Finlay on the apron, Morrison chop blocks him on the outside, the Miz, on the inside, hits boot to the face, sending Finlay to the outside. Morrison follows this up by driving Finlay into the ring apron.

They get back into the ring and the champs work Finlay over. Yet, despite this being a No DQ, Boogey just stands there and lets them do it. Great logic.

After three more minutes of Finlay being worked, Boogey finally comes in to save Finlay. This allows Finlay some time to recover and he hits Morrison with a boot the the face and a clothesline, while Miz gets a reverse atomic drop. But Morrison comes up from behind and rolls Finlay up for the win.

Winners via pinfall: John Morrison & The Miz

Boogey finally decides to get involved after the match, sending Morrison back into the ring where Finlay hits the Celtic Cross on the winner.

That entire match made no sense whatsoever.

Happy New Year everybody!
