Snitsky latest WWE release
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling
WWE's latest talent roster cut was announced today, as Snitsky has been let go by the Stamford, CT-based company.
The announcement was made on WWE.com, with the company stating that, "World Wrestling Entertainment has come to terms on the release of Raw Superstar Gene Snitsky as of today, December 11. WWE wishes Gene the best in all future endeavors."
Snitsky had been sparsely seen over the last number of weeks on Raw and had not been involved in a true storyline in quite some time.
Born Eugene Alan Snisky, the big man made his debut in WWE after training in WXW and getting some seasoning in Ohio Valley Wrestling. He made his Raw debut in 2004, seemingly in a jobber role in a match vs. Kane. However, Snitsky would attack the Big Red Monster with a chair during the match, resulting in him falling on his then storyline wife Lita and causing a miscarriage of her baby.
Following the incident, Kane and Snitsky would begin a lengthy feud, with Snitsky putting Kane (in storyline) on the shelf midway through their rivalry. The feud would continue through Snitsky taking time out of the ring to recover from a bloodclot, with him returning to face his foe, albeit now siding with Lita and her new beau, Edge. Snitsky would also spend some of this time in smaller stories.
Snitsky's Raw run would continue uneventfully, save for a brief time as a tag team with Tyson Tomko. The two would challenge Big Show and Kane for the World Tag Team titles, but would not gain the belts and would break-up upon Tomko's departure from WWE. A similar fate would await Snitsky during a shory run in a team with Goldust.
After serving for months virtually exclusively for Heat, promos would begin to air on ECW on Sci-Fi in early 2007, signaling Snitsky's move to the Tuesday night brand. He would debut with a fully-shaved look and discoloured teeth soon after and enjoy a virtually loss-free run before returning to Raw following the 2007 Draft. From here, he would be used on and off through his departure earlier today.
