ECW: Extreme Rules are back!
By MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: It's a showdown like no other as Tommy Dreamer brings Jack Swagger into his domain -- an Extreme Rules match. Will Swagger throw Dreamer out like yesterday's garbage or will Dreamer make his fellow ECW Originals proud? Should be a good one!
And we are TAPED! from Providence, R.I. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
Match #1 - Extreme Rules Match - Tommy Dreamer (Yonkers, N.Y.) vs. Jack Swagger (Perry, Okla.)
No intro video, no pyro, just Dreamer standing in the ring with his music going to start the show. That's ... weird.
Dreamer lands the first big blow with a Kendo stick shot. He follows that up by slamming Swagger on a steel chair. Dreamer sets a chair up in the corner and tries to ram Swagger into it, but ends up eating steel.
We're back and Swagger is working over Dreamer, nailing Dreamer's left ankle with the Kendo stick and then using the chair to put more pressure on the ankle while he pulls, but Dreamer gets to the ropes (which doesn't make any sense at all. Why are there rope breaks in an Extreme Rules Match?).
Swagger goes back to work with the chair, this time in a half-crab position. Dreamer goes to the bottom rope again, but instead grabs a Kendo stick and starts nailing Swagger with it. He follows this up with a trash can lid shot.
Swagger puts Dreamer face-down on a trash can and goes to Vader Bomb it, but Dreamer moves. Dreamer puts Swagger in the Tree of Woe and puts the trash can in front of his face and connects with the dropkick.
Dreamer goes under the ring and brings a table in the ring. Dreamer hits a DDT but only gets two. Dreamer goes to hit Swagger with a trash can but ends up eating steel again. Swagger sets up the gut-wrench power bomb and hurls Dreamer through the table for the fall.
Winner via pinfall: Jack Swagger
"The Chuck Norris of Nookie" John Morrison and The Miz are backstage pimping the replay of Survivor Series (Edge is a "weirdo with a beard-o"). But the best moment of Survivor Series was when they debuted their matching outfits. Then the familiar music hits and the room turns red and it's The Boogeyman. They split and Boogey is coming to get us.
After a quick toss to Grisham and Striker, here is ECW Champion Matt Hardy backstage. They ask how his brother Jeff is doing and he said he is fine, but he should speak for himself. Then Swagger walks into the frame and says now that he's done with Dreamer, he's coming for him.
Elsewhere backstage, Mark Henry and Tony Atlas intimidate Hornswaggle, who was jumping for some candy, in anticipation of tonight's big match between Henry and Finlay.
Match #2 - DJ Gabriel (Great Britain) vs. Jared ???? (Parts Unknown)
Gabriel swings Jared right out of the ring. Jared works a hammerlock, but Gabriel gets out an hits a suplex and a leg sweep. Gabriel hits the flying European uppercut for the win.
Winner via pinfall: DJ Gabriel
Grisham is in the ring and asks Alicia Fox about how she found Gabriel after planning the Guerrero/Copeland wedding over the summer. She says she took her business overseas and found him. It's a winning combo.
Match #3 - Mark Henry (Silsbee, Texas) vs. Finlay (Belfast, Northern Ireland)
Henry, of course, works his power game early and throws the Shillelagh from the corner to the outside. Finlay gets going briefly, but tries to jump on Henry on the outside and gets slammed in the ring apron then slammed on the floor.
We're back and Henry is in control, gripping Finlay's head and wrenching it before turning it into a chinlock. Finlay hits a dropkick on Henry but Henry smacks him right back down.
Atlas forces Hornswaggle in the ring, so with the ref distracted, Finlay grabs another Shillelagh from under the ring and belts Henry in the leg with it. He hits a drop kick from the top rope and goes to cover but sees Atlas harassing Hornswaggle outside the ring. He grabs the Shillelagh and cracks Atlas a few times with it before being struck by Henry from behind. Henry and Atlas start to take Hornswaggle away, but Finlay attacks Henry and brings Hornswaggle to safety. The two parties have a staredown as we go off the air.
