Smackdown: Kozlov mauls Hardy
By ANDY MCNAMARA -– SLAM! Wrestling

Smackdown takes a trip to Fabulous Las Vegas as tonight’s show provides some serious glitz and glamour. Jeff Hardy rolls the dice as he takes on Vladimir Kozlov in their first ever 1-on-1 battle. The brothers Colon defend their tag team titles, and there is a showdown of monsters as The Undertaker and The Great Khali square off. Well enough chit chat, lets hit the town, Viva Las Smackdown!

Match 1: Tag Team Championship - Primo & Carlito (c) vs. Zach Ryder & Curt Hawkins

Hawkins and Ryder are attempting to regain the titles that they lost to the brothers from San Juan 3 weeks ago. Primo seems to have rejuvenated his older brother as both of them are ramped up and flying high. A pretty solid back and forth affair with the end coming courtesy of a missile dropkick from Primo for the victory.

WINNERS: Carlito & Primo

MVP is interviewed and says that all the tag team matches he has been losing recently don’t count because he is a singles competitor. He reiterates how “when” he gets the win over R Truth tonight that his incentive contract clause kicks in for some major moola.

Match 2: MVP vs. R-Truth

R-Truth makes his extended entrance singing his way through the crowd. MVP tries to ground out the pure athleticism of his foe with a sleeper hold, but is quickly put down with a spinning corkscrew attack. Truth goes into impressive splits to escape the Drive By Kick, and before you know it he hits the scissors kick. Surprisingly this one is over fast and the burying of MVP continues.

WINNER: R-Truth

GM Vickie Guerrero is in her office with the Big Show when “Kung” Funaki comes in and announces himself…he is promptly thrown out. Maryse comes in sporting a maid outfit and they talk about the Divas #1 contenders match later on in the program. Then The Great Khali and Ranjin Singh stroll in and Vickie announces that he will face The Undertaker this evening. Khali is translated as saying that he is not a puppet to her. Big Show lets Khali know that fighting Taker is in his best interests as the general manager could make his life quite difficult if he refuses.

Match 3: Ezekiel Jackson w/ The Brian Kendrick vs. Super Crazy

The Brian Kendrick informs the crowd that he has a “tickle” in the back of his throat and is too sick to compete…and his replacement is his advisor Ezekiel! Jackson is jacked and looks like a monster. Jackson dissects Super Crazy and finishes him off with a standing Rock Bottom type manoeuvre. Kendrick deliver The Kendrick on Super Crazy following the bell.

WINNER: Ezekiel Jackson

Match 4: The Undertaker vs. The Great Khali w/ Ranjin Singh

A rare TV match for The Dead Man and he will certainly have to put his working boots on against this clumsy giant. Taker uses his speed to avoid some early attacks and lays some soup bone shots. Undertaker escapes the neck nerve clutch, however, he is clocked by a head chop, followed by a head vice squeeze. Just as Taker seems to have Khali where he wants him the Big Show slides in and choke slams him! Show grabs a steel chair, but wants Khali to nail Taker. Great Khali refuses and slaps the chair from Show’s hands. While Big Show is watching Khali walk away The Undertaker rises and hits Show in the back, which sends him up and over the top rope.

WINNER: The Undertaker via DQ

Main event next week is The Undertaker vs. Triple H for the WWE title!

Match 5: Divas Las Vegas Match – Maria vs. Maryse vs. Natalya Neidhart vs. Victoria vs. Brie Bella

The first Diva to grab the fuzzy dice on the pole earns a Divas title shot against Michelle McCool. Maryse runs straight for the dice, is stopped and then all the girls begin to scramble. Each Diva takes turns going for the dice and is stopped by the others. Maryse is coming off looking very strong and crisp in this battle so far. Maria is able to finally pull Maryse down and grabs the dice, making her the #1 contender.

WINNER: Maria

Match 6: Jesse & Festus vs. Ryan Braddock & Kenny Dykstra

Festus starts as per usual by cleaning house. A decent momentum changing contest until Festus completely takes over. He gains a long two count after a boot and running splash on Braddock. Braddock is then tossed to the outside and Kenny Dykstra receives the modified F5 for a biscuits and gravy win.

WINNER: Jesse & Festus

Backstage Maria and Michelle McCool run into each other and exchange pleasantries. Jesse and Festus bump into Maria as well and Festus hands her a flower and stares.

Match 7: Main Event- Jeff Hardy vs. Vladimir Kozlov

Triple H will be at ringside to watch his possible Cyber Sunday opponents. Kozlov lays into Hardy heavy right off the bat, and looks unstoppable. The crowd chants “USA” to the Russian…the Cold War is over people! Coming out of the commercials Kozlov has Jeff down in a serious arm bar. Hardy finally mounts some offense with a pair of Whisper in the Winds, and has to jump bail on the Twist of Fate. The Moscow Mauler then head butts Hardy in the chest…and picks up the pinfall. Little fight out of Jeff tonight. Triple H climbs into the ring with the undefeated Kozlov. The two stare each other down as the program comes to an end.

WINNER: Vladimir Kozlov
