ECW: Cyber Sunday shakedown
MATT BISHOP - SLAM! Wrestling
Tonight on ECW on Sci-Fi: With Cyber Sunday just a few weeks away, ECW's
involvement in the interactive juggernaut is revealed. Should be a good one!
And we are LIVE! from Las Vegas, Nev. Todd Grisham and Matt Striker are
our hosts. This show is presented in WWEHD (TV-PG,V).
There's nothing I like to hear better than the sweet tones of Mark
Henry's theme song to open the show and I'm not disappointed, as Henry and
his baggage handler Tony Atlas make their way to the ring.
Atlas will be handling speaking duties this week. He tells us that Henry
wants the ECW title and the message to Matt Hardy will get much more painful
the longer they have to wait.
With that, ECW General Manager Theodore Long is out. He brings up Henry's
loss to Hardy at No Mercy, but he'll give him an opportunity, but he won't
be the one to make the final decision. Instead, it'll be on the fans to
chose Hardy's opponent at Cyber Sunday.
And all through the night, there will be qualifying matches to see who
joins Henry on the ballot.
Match #1 - Cyber Sunday Qualifier - Evan Bourne (St. Louis, MO) vs.
Chavo Guerrero (El Paso, Texas)
Per usual, Guerrero works the mat, but Bourne starts to get going and
works a Kimura on Chavo.
A cheap shot turns things around for Guerrero. He rams Bourne into the
turnbuckle but Bourne comes back and sends Guerrero to the floor with an
arm-drag. He then gets a full head of steam and flies over the top rope onto
Guerrero as Striker giggles in the background.
We're back and Guerrero gets his knees up on the standing moonsault.
Guerrero then goes to work and hits a rolling Liger kick for two. Chavo puts
the boots to Bourne.
Things turn around for Bourne and he puts the fists to Guerrero in the
corner and jumps up and crotches himself as Chavo moved out of the way.
Guerrero locks in a half-crab. But Bourne rolls out when Chavo tries to pull
him into the centre of the ring.
It's still slow, though, and Guerrero hits Two Amigos before Bourne gets
out of the third. Bourne hits a hurricarana that sets Guerrero up perfectly
for the Shooting Star Press.
Winner via pinfall: Evan Bourne
Henry comes back out and destroys Bourne in retaliation for Bourne
disrespecting him before the match.
Long is backstage and Tiffany is dressed like a showgirl. Long says she's
a shoe-ie to win the Divas Costume Contest at Cyber Sunday. She says she has
the perfect costume for Long -- an Elvis costume. Jack Swagger enters Long's
office wondering why he was left out of Cyber Sunday qualifying. Then Tommy
Dreamer comes in asking for an ECW Championship shot after Cyber Sunday.
Swagger asks if the door was a time warp, since it's 1996. He says some of
the guys on ECW are creating their legacies, not bastardizing it.
Match #2 - Cyber Sunday Qualifier - John Morrison (Los Angeles,
Calif.) vs. Finlay (Belfast, Northern Ireland)
Striker speculates that he may go as Repo Man for Halloween.
The two go back-and-forth early with Finlay working Morrison's left leg.
A well-timed boot to the gut and a sudden mean streak turn things around for
Morrison as he goes to work with a hammerlock. Miz gets involved by tripping
up Finlay, but Finlay responds by throwing Morrison over the top onto Miz.
Then Finlay distracts the ref, allowing Hornswaggle to come into the ring
and flying over the bottom rope onto the former champions. Hornswaggle goes
under the ring and then apparently drags Miz under with him.
We're back and Morrison continues to work the left arm. Finlay gets out
and charges Morrison but ends up with a shoulder-full of ring post. Morrison
gets going with some kicks and then right back to the arm. Well, at least it
isn't a chinlock.
Finlay gets going with a backslide and clotheslines with his right arm.
Finlay walks right into a boot and then into a neckbreaker when Hornswaggle
appears in the ring, distracting the ref. Finlay picks up the Shillelagh,
but Mike Knox comes out of nowhere to take it away. This allows Morrison to
hit the jumping kick, but he only gets two.
Then Knox disappears under the ring. Morrison goes to take off the top
turnbuckle pad, drawing the ref. Then we see Cryme Tyme come from under the
ring, handing the Shillelagh to Finlay. He cracks Morrison with it for the
Winner via pinfall: Finlay
Never one to favorite anyone else, Finlay nails both Shad and JTG with
the Shillelagh. He goes to the top of the ramp celebrating when Mark Henry
attacks from behind and hits the World's Strongest Slam on the top of the
