Raw: Chi-Town rumble
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

The biggest blockbuster of the summer is over (SummerSlam), and I hope WWE doesn’t trot out a sequel as RAW comes to us from Chicago.

Chris Jericho walks out to start the show and he is all business, and by that I mean business suit. Jericho blames Shawn Michaels for what happened. (If you missed it check out my SummerSlam report with Nick Tylwalk.) All HBK had to do was write a letter or shoot a video, not show up in person. Jericho tells HBK all he had to do then was show some humility and said it was Chris who ended his career. Jericho says the last image we have of Shawn Michaels is him cradling his wife’s head in the ring. Jericho goes on to say that Michaels deserves this and has tarnished his legacy.

Match #1 – Batista vs. Paul Burchill

Batista pushs Burchill into the corner, but Paul fights out. Burchill beats on the Animal in the corner, but Big Dave turns tables. Burchill recovers and connects with a chop block. Paul continues to work on the leg, but Batista connects with a spear. The Animal follows with a spinebuster, and the gets Burchill up and nails the Batista Bomb.

Winner via pinfall: Batista

Mike Adamle has taken over backstage reporting duties, and introduces Primo Colon, the brother of Carlito. Primo doesn’t say a word, as Adamle chases after John Cena. Adamle wants to give Cena a heads up on his match tonight. Cena walks away and runs into Batista. John shakes his hand and says the better man won -- last night.

Match #2 – Jillian Hall and Katie Lea Burchill vs. Mickie James and Kelly Kelly

Jillian wants to sing a song by “Chicago” before the match, the crowd is about to storm the ring as she butchers the song. Kelly’s entrance mercifully shuts her up.

Mickie hits Katie Lea with the impaler DDT and covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Mickie James and Kelly Kelly

Match #3 – JBL vs. Jamie Noble

JBL tees off on Noble as soon as the bell ring. Noble makes a counter attack, but gets caught during a lateral press. JBL delivers a fallaway slam. JBL punches Noble in the corner, ignoring the ref’s warnings. JBL elbows into Noble’s sternum. JBL picks Noble up and sets him down with a Clothesline from Hell. Noble is knocked out, but JBL delivers another clothesline. JBL completes the hat trick, but the ref only counts one, and calls for the bell. JBL is announced the winner.

Winner via knockout: JBL

Shane and Stephanie McMahon are going to make a blockbuster announcement. Hopefully it is everyone who ordered SummerSlam is getting a refund.

Mike Adamle comes out on stage to make a few announcements. Later tonight, CM Punk will take on Chris Jericho. Adamle announces that at Unforgiven five superstars including the Heavyweight champion will compete in a 20-minute match. If you score a pin or submission, you win the title, but the match continues. Whoever has the title at the end of the 20 minutes will be the champion. CM Punk will defend against Kane, JBL, Batista, and John Cena. Welcome to the championship scramble. (Okay, this is cool, but it should be longer.)

Match #4 – Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena – 2 on 1 handicapped Match

Cryme Tyme’s music hits and Shad jumps on the apron, while JTG jacks the World Tag Team titles. Rhodes and DiBiase are beside themselves as Cena makes his entrance. Rhodes faces Cena first, but we go to commercial.

Cena is double teamed, as DiBiase makes a blind tag. Cena runs into a drop kick, as Rhodes tags in. A double elbow sends Cena to the mat. Rhodes connects with a side Russian leg sweep. Rhodes then sends Cena flying off the apron crashing into the security barrier. DiBiase dodges a charge and counters with a back suplex. He follows with a clothesline. Cena is double teamed again, and Rhodes then pounds on him the corner. Rhodes ducks a flying shoulder block and Cena falls from the ring. Rhodes follows, whipping him into the ring steps. DiBiase hits a snap suplex. Cena reverse a suplex, but cannot get back to his feet. Rhodes tags in, but Cena regains the momentum with a shoulder block. Cena hits the five knuckle shuffle. A drop toes hold allows Cena to lock in the STFU and Rhodes quickly taps.

Winner via submission: John Cena

Last night Michael Cole tried to get a word from Shawn Michaels after Jericho hit his wife Rebecca in the jaw. Michaels said he is going to go home and comfort his wife and kids. And then ... he just walked off.

The Grish is with Chicago’s own CM Punk. The World champ says Jericho did one of the lowest things a man can do. Punk says in this town we deal with guys like that, and Punk is going to it Chicago style. (They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital; you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way!)

Match #5 – Santino Marella w/ Beth Phoenix vs. D’Lo Brown – Intercontinental Title Match

Kofi Kingston joins the announce team. D’Lo hits a knee to the get, and then a spinning heel kick. D’Lo hits a suplex, but misses a drop kick off the top rope. D’Lo recovers to and hits a clothesline and then a leg drop. D’Lo goes up top for the frog splash, but Beth Phoenix stands over her man. D’Lo tells her to get to steppin’, and she slaps him. The ref calls for the bell. D’Lo suplexes Santino and knocks him from the ring, where he lands in front of Kofi. Kingston slams Santino’s head off the table. Phoenix comes over and helps her man to the back.

Winner via DQ: Santino Marella

Kane is making his way to the ring. Kane says carrying that bag put a smile on his face and no one realized he has been out for six weeks. The reason Rey is gone is because Kane didn’t like him. He calls him slime that hides behind a mask. Rey isn’t dead, but his spirit is broken, crushed and killed. Kane laughs, until Batista hits the ring and delivers a spear and a spinebuster. Kane hits the injured knee of the Animal and then connects with a chokeslam.

Match #6 – CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho w/ Lance Cade

Punk stares down Jericho with a smirk, as Jericho consults his protégé. Punk starts off with kicks to the hamstrings and then one to the back. A backbreaker across the knee sends Jericho to the mat, and Punk is relentless with an assault in the corner. Jericho fights back with knees and fists in the corner. Punk counters a whip into the corner and slaps on a modified tarantula. Punk side steps a spear in the corner, and Jericho flies out to the floor.

After the break, Jericho has Punk in a chin lock. Punk elbows out, but is shot into a clothesline. Jericho drops an elbow, and then stretches Punk across his knee. Punk knees Jericho in the head, but Jericho is able to lock in an abdominal stretch. Punk counters the bulldog with a roundhouse kick to the head. Punk with a double under hook backbreaker. Punk follows with a high knee in the corner. Jericho blocks a bulldog and hits the lionsault. Jericho goes for the walls, but Punk blocks it. Punk hits a head scissors, and hooks the legs on the landing, but Jericho kicks out. Punk looks for the GTS, but Jericho hangs onto the ropes. Jericho counters into the Walls. Punk crawls to the ropes to break the hold. Punk gets up and drops a charging Jericho onto the apron. Jericho climbs the turnbuckle, but is met there with a high knee. Punk hits a bulldog as Jericho comes off the top. Lance Cade jumps on the apron, Punk gets in his face. Jericho nails Punk from behind, knocking Cade to the floor. Jericho then hits the codebreaker and covers for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Chris Jericho
