Countdown to TNA Slammiversary
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff
 |
Booker T could ascend his throne again tonight at Slammiversary |
Happy Slammiversary everyone.
Yes, TNA is another year old friends, so let's celebrate the good times, mainly
the return of gimmick-free matches (at least in some cases). The SLAM! crew
will have more to say on this later in the week, but for now we have an important
task at hand, as three of the four TNA titles are on the line, plus we've got
some other interesting match-ups. So without further adieu, let's get to it.
|
TNA WORLD TITLE MATCH (KING OF THE MOUNTAIN,
KEVIN NASH SPECIAL ENFORCER)
Samoa Joe vs. Robert Roode vs. Booker T vs. Christian Cage vs. Rhino |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
It's stipulation-o-rama, brother! As if the KOTM match wasn't horrid enough
of a concept, adding a special enforcer makes it exta painful. It's like ordering
a double Whopper with cheese and getting poutine on the side - you're just asking
for trouble. So what will Nash's job be? To hold the stopwatch for the guy in
the penalty box? I know that I should care about this match, but I don't. Joe
deserves to hold the title longer, but you get the feeling that TNA is going
to go in with the sense that the chase is better than the accomplishment, so
I'm picking Booker to win after Nash costs Joe the strap.
Greg Oliver
It would be foolish for Samoa Joe to lose the belt so quickly, and even though
this is a company known for doing foolish things, he'll retain and the build
will begin for Booker T versus Samoa Joe in Houston.
Jason Clevett
I hate, hate, hate this match. Even with a pretty talented group of guys, the
concept is so complicated it just doesnt work. For the first time, the
champion retains, and something is set up to lead to Joe vs. Booker in Houston.

WHAT YOU THINK
|
|
Who will win the King of the Mountain match at Slammiversary?
Samoa Joe - 49%
Rhino - 7%
Robert Roode - 8%
Booker T - 26%
Christian Cage - 11%

GRUDGE MATCH
AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
I love the idea of this match, but I fear for Angle's safety. They could've
held off for a month, maybe put AJ vs. Tomko on the bill tonight, and no one
would've complained. This has schmozz ending written all over it.
Greg Oliver
This should be the showstealer, as Styles has been coasting a lot lately and
Angle was out injured so he'll be raring to go. For once, no stipulations, either.
How very refreshing. Angle wins. I hope they keep the soap opera aspect to a
minimum.
Jason Clevett
Oh man, if there is any reason to order the pay per view, this is it. I hope
these two just start tearing into each other, as if they start wrestling, it
takes away all of the build up to the match. Hard one to pick for me, but I
will go with Angle.
|
X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Kaz vs. Petey Williams |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
I hope to god that Kaz wins and we return to an X era where you don't need
rediculous gimmicks, just straight-up, RoH style wrestling.
Greg Oliver
Kaz is one of those guys who seems legit whether it's in the X Division or the
heavyweight division. I hope for his sake, he gets more time with the big guys.
To get there, a run with the X title wouldn't hurt, so I'll take him to upset
Williams.
Jason Clevett
I have mixed feelings on this one, as a month after headling a pay per view
in a heavyweight title match, Kaz takes a step back into the X-Division. With
Petey still hurting I expect Kaz will take it, which is unfortunate because
he has shown in the last year he deserves to be at the next level.

TNA WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
LAX vs. Team 3D |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
I really like LAX and hope they win, but I'm already smelling a Hector Guerrero
turn. It could happen tonight, but I'm betting TNA will push it off by a month
or two.
Greg Oliver
LAX is a cool team, unique, and over. Team 3D is just so... yesterday. LAX wins,
and this feud continues.
Jason Clevett
LAX is still on a hot streak, and should continue to cement themselves as the
top team in TNA with a victory of Team 3D.

MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN
Jay Lethal/SoCal Val vs. TNA Writing Staff
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
The Snake is not a red herring here folks. I'm guessing that TNA is going to
go further into their dumbass stereotyping and make Dutt into a snake charmer
now. Just tie Lethal up in the ropes, do the snakebite bit and be done with
this farce of a tribute.
Greg Oliver
Anyone want to put any money on it going all the way? Didn't think so. This
is where Sonjay Dutt turns fully heel -- I mean he HAS to after how this has
worked out so far. The main question is, does SoCal Val side with him?
Jason Clevett
Ace Young? Really? Why even bother scraping the bottom of the barrel with these
D-list celebrities. No one is going to order the show to see Ace
Young and its not like its going to get mainstream media coverage. Part
of me wants to see the wedding go through, and then Val opens a present to find
an Indian cobra, courtesy Sonjay Dutt. I think some evil Dutt and Jake Roberts
could be fun, if Roberts can perform. The man is still a captivating speaker.

SIX-WOMAN TAG TEAM MATCH
Beautiful People vs. Gail Kim/ODB/Roxxi Leveaux
|
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
Like Angle, I fear for Gail Kim returning too early. Could TNA not have built
up another woman for this match? The Beautiful People will win, with Gail being
pinned by Ms. Knuckles.
Greg Oliver
The Beautiful People! The Beautiful People! The Beautiful People! But they won't
win. Sigh.
Jason Clevett
Hooray! Knockout matches are awesome, and this doesnt have a dumb stipulation.
The Beautiful people score the win.

THE AWESOME CHALLENGE MATCH
Awesome Kong vs. ???
|
|
SLAM! Predictions
Jon Waldman
Bringing the gimmick to PPV tells me that we're getting a surprise entrant here.
Part of me sees Joanie Laurer being the opponent then Kong backing down, but
another part of me sees a Molly Holly or Ivory making a one-off appearance for
a strong match. I'll go with the latter, say it's Ivory and pick Kong to win.
Greg Oliver
Umm, Kong? The Spider Lady isn't around anymore for the upset.
Jason Clevett
Kong squash! Arrrrr!!!!
