Impact: Double trouble
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

It's tag team mayhem this week on Impact, as TNA wraps up the qualifying matches for the Deuce's Wild Tag Team Title Tournament. Also on tap, Jim Cornette will announce the "Egotistical Eight" that will be joining the qualified tag teams in the Deuce's Wild Tournament. Plus the Knockouts will be in action and Samoa Joe teams with Kurt Angle. All this and more on Impact!

The show began with highlights of the last edition of Impact. Mike Tenay and Don West then did their usual welcome and pitched it to the ring.

Match One - Curry Man and Shark Boy vs. The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin)

The Motor City Machine Guns brought the fight to Curry Man and Shark Boy, taking the duo out with side-to-side suicide dives. However, before winners could be decided, Scott Steiner, Petey Williams and Rhakka Kahn hit the ring and beat down both teams.

Winners - No Contest

After the match was thrown out, Scott Steiner grabbed the mic and ran down Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe. Kurt Angle came out and went on the attack, but the numbers game caught up with him. A two-on-one beat down ensued, until Samoa Joe ran out and made the save.

Outside of Jim Cornette's office, Jeremy Borash stood by with AJ Styles, who needed to find a partner for his qualifying match in the Deuce's Wild Tournament since Tomko was injured in Japan. Styles was nervous that he couldn't find a partner. Cornette emerged from his office and talked about his big announcement of the Egotistical Eight. Styles tried to get himself more time to find a partner, but Cornette told him he only had one hour to get the job done.

Don West hyped the Impact Main Event and pitched it to the ring and Mike Tenay.

Mike Tenay called out The Beautiful People, Angelina Love and Velvet Sky. Love and Sky make fun of Gail Kim and ODB by showing pictures of them bald on the TNA Trons. Kim and ODB come out, leading to a brawl. ODB then grabbed the mic and challenged them to a tag match for later on Impact.

Backstage, Jeremy Borash and AJ Styles were shown still looking for a partner. Kurt Angle passed by them and asked Styles if he had seen Karen Angle. Styles said he hadn't and Kurt told him to keep it that way. Styles and Borash then barged into Booker T's locker room. Styles asked Booker to be his partner, but Booker acted like he had no idea who Styles was and told him to get lost.

Lauren caught up with Samoa Joe and Kevin Nash. Joe said that he and Nash are prepared for anything to come their way. Joe expressed excitement in defending his TNA Heavyweight Championship and said he loves the competition.

Match Two - Deuce's Wild Tag Team Title Tournament Qualifier - Kaz and Eric Young vs. LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) w/ Salinas

Kaz took most of the beating in this one. The match eventually broke down, with Hernandez taking Kaz out of the equation. Eric Young and Homicide went back and forth, until Homicide rolled Young up for the pin.

Winners Via Pinfall - LAX (Homicide and Hernandez)

After the match, LAX shook hands with Kaz and Eric Young. LAX then grabbed the mic and called out Hector Guerrero. Guerrero made his way to the ring, as LAX told him how much admiration they have for the Guerrero family. LAX then asked Guerrero to be at their side at Sacrifice and to lead them to the TNA Tag Team Championships. Guerrero agreed and the group shook on it.

Traci Brooks was shown talking to Jim Cornette in the back. Cornette told Brooks that she was one of the only people he could tolerate and told her he would think about what she had to say. Matt Morgan then barged in and told Cornette to put him in the Deuce's Wild Tournament. Kip James then attacked Morgan from behind as security ran in to break things up.

Angelina Love and Velvet Sky were shown walking backstage in preparation for their match.

Elsewhere backstage, Jeremy Borash and AJ Styles walked into Kevin Nash's locker room. He was giving therapy to Christy Hemme, who got up and told Styles that the Rock N' Rave Infection were going to rock him. Styles then sat down with Nash and told him that the money was in the tag team division and he wanted him as his partner. Nash said the money was with the Heavyweight Champion. Styles said that Samoa Joe was already the champ. Nash agreed and then walked off.

Match Three - Angelina Love and Velvet Sky vs. Gail Kim and ODB

Back and forth match, with Gail Kim and ODB showing great teamwork. ODB was able to finish off Velvet Sky with a running powerslam for the win.

Winners Via Pinfall - Gail Kim and ODB

After the match, Angelina Love attacked ODB and Gail Kim. They fought back and Love escaped. Roxxi Laveaux then came down and tossed Love back into the ring. They bounced her around and Laveaux hit the Voodoo Crusher before sending her back to the floor.

Jeremy Borash was in the back telling James Storm, Robert Roode and Jackie Moore about the Egotistical Eight, when AJ Styles walked in with a bottle of alcohol for James Storm in exchange for Storm's partnership. Storm said that it wasn't his type of drink. He then insulted Karen Angle and Styles got heated. Robert Roode stepped in between them and told Styles that the odds were stacked against him. Roode said that neither one of them would be his partner and walked off. Borash and Storm played around with Styles' bottle of alcohol, before he snatched it away from them. Styles and Borash then sat down, frustrated about not finding a partner. Suddenly, a shadow appeared and Styles asked if that person would be his partner, to which that person agreed.

Match Four - Deuce's Wild Tag Team Title Tournament Qualifier - The Rock N' Rave Infection (Jimmy Rave and Lance Hoyt) w/ Christy Hemme vs. AJ Styles and Super Eric

Another good back and forth match. AJ Styles and Super Eric were able to fight off the Rock N Rave Infection and pick up the victory after a Super Eric DVD on Jimmy Rave. After the match the two celebrated and posed together.

Winners Via Pinfall - AJ Styles and Super Eric

Backstage, Sting told Jeremy Borash that TNA was a looney bin and that the egos were going to take over.

A package was then shown to hype the Terror Dome match at Sacrifice. Apparently, this is cage match, combined with an Ultimate X match, inside a 30-foot high structure.

Match Five - Daisy Haze vs. Cheerleader Melissa

Cheerleader Melissa showed her dominance in this one, and picked up the win after hitting the Kudo Driver on Daisy Haze.

Winner Via Pinfall - Cheerleader Melissa

Backstage, Lauren spoke with Scott Steiner, Petey Williams and Rhakka Kahn. Steiner cut this funny promo that introduced all sorts of new math, basically saying that the odds were that he was going to win the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Good stuff, purely for comedy.

Match Six - Scott Steiner and Petey Williams w/ Rhakka Kahn vs. Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe

Scott Steiner and Petey Williams did their best to keep Samoa Joe and Kurt Angle down, but they kept fighting back. In the end, Joe needed to tag out, but instead, he flipped off Angle. This lead to Angle sending Steiner to the floor and attacking Joe from behind, only to eat a kick for his troubles. Joe then finished off Williams with a Muscle Buster for the win.

Winners Via Pinfall - Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe

After the match, Kurt Angle hit Samoa Joe with a German Suplex and locked in the Ankle Lock. Scott Steiner ran in with a lead pipe and cleared the ring of Angle, before cracking Joe with the pipe. Steiner then celebrated with the TNA Heavyweight Championship.

Backstage, Jim Cornette told Jeremy Borash that he was going to go into the Impact Zone and make history.

Replays were then shown from the main event.

Jim Cornette came out with the TNA Tag Team Championships. He says that four teams have qualified for the Deuce's Wild Tag Team Title Tournament, and four more would be comprised of the eight stars he was about to bring out. He announced Matt Morgan, BG James, Kip James, Robert Roode, James Storm, Booker T and Sting. Cornette looked and saw that he had only announced seven names and said that his next announcement was going to make history. He announced the eighth competitor as the TNA Knockouts Champion, The Awesome Kong.

Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and thinks Mrs. Field's Cookies are amazing.
