Women's great Sue "Tex" Green fights for life

Women's wrestling great Susan "Tex" Green has been hospitalized in Columbia, SC, for two months, battling a serious staph infection.

Green has been in the hospital since February 5th. While looking at a stomach and intestine problem, doctors discovered the staph infection around her back area.

PGWA promoter Randy Powell, a long-time friend of Green's, shared what he learned after a conversation with Green. "She is making progress. Early on, the doctors had said that her condition was critical. Although her condition is still very serious, she is improving," Powell wrote in an email. "While she is no longer critical, I want to stress the seriousness of this. The infection has affected her left side and she is partially paralized on that side. She does physical theraphy every day for about 3 hours, and there is every hope that she will regain her full mobility. She still has a long way to go, but she is doing her best. And anyone who has been lucky enough to know Susan knows just what her 'best' means ... it means that she won't give up, and she won't give in."

The big scare came on April 10th, when she was put on a ventilator, which lasted for four days.

The Texas native Green broke into pro wrestling as a teen, and wrestled until recently. She was a star during the 1970s, and into the '80s, a tall woman wrestler at 6-foot-1.

Her many friends in wrestling have been in touch, including Judy Martin, who sent some yellow roses.
