UWA going down fighting in Ottawa
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

It's not like Dave Dalton doesn't have the wrestling bug.

It's been a part of his life for so long, it'd be hard to go cold turkey. But the wrestler/trainer has just about had enough.

It's hard to make a living when you're worried about putting enough butts in the seats to break even. And it's probably irresponsible when you've got a family -- mouths to feed.

So, after several months off, Dalton's Universal Wrestling Alliance is having one last go-around, just long enough to showcase some excellent local talent before the lease of his training facility expires at the end of August.

Up next at UWA's training grounds, 1546 Chatelain Ave. in Carlington, is an April 26 card beginning at 8 p.m. A tag-team tournament will be featured and the main event is expected to be Virus vs. Kwan Chang.

It'll be standing-room-only and even with that, there'll only be room for maybe 100 wrestling zealots. It'll have an old-school feel, with the place darkened, except for a spotlight above the ring.

"It has a Paradise Alley kind of feel to it," says Dalton, who's hoping to hold a show a month until August. "It's one of those things where if I'd been able to walk away when I wanted to, I guarantee you I'd be back six weeks later, wanting to get back in."

OTHER LOCAL WRESTLING

C*4 (Capital City Championship Combat) has several shows coming up in the Ottawa area. "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen, El Generico and TNA Knockout Nikki Rox (Roxxi Leveaux) are among the stars on an April 27 card at the Knights of Columbus, 260 McArthur Ave. in Vanier. Show time is 3 p.m. On May 30, at the Petawawa Civic Centre (16 Civic Centre Rd.), Steen, Larry Sweeney and Chikara stars Hallowicked, Vin Gerrard and Icarus are among those appearing. Show time is 8 p.m. There's also a show featuring many of the same stars May 31 at the Rideau Carleton Raceway. The season-finale show will be held June 14 at the Knights of Columbus in Vanier.

RING NOTES

Samoa Joe is the new TNA heavyweight champ, beating Kurt Angle at Sunday's Lockdown pay-per-view ... The Wrestling Observer reports that Big Daddy V has been sent home and told to lose some weight ... There are also reports Mike Adamle will take over for Joey Styles as ECW's play-by-play guy.
