ECW: Who will Punk choose?
By MATT MACKINDER - SLAM! Wrestling

On a Thursday night edition of ECW, CM Punk has to choose between facing Mark Henry or Big Daddy V. I would much rather choose to turn the TV off.

Tonight's show starts out with Matt Striker hyping Punk's decision and making Henry and Big Fatty look unstoppable. I'll sleep just fine tonight, thank you very much.

Match # 1 - The Major Brothers vs. John Morrison & The Miz

Actually an OK non-title match with some impressive moves from the Majors. There's almost a brawl, but Miz and one of the brothers end up on the floor and Morrison hits his corkscrew neckbreaker on the other brother (who sells it well) in the ring and gets the clean three.

Winners via pinfall: John Morrison & The Miz

I wanted an upset, but I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Oh well. No sweat.

There's a new wrestler coming to the WWE, mon - Kofi Kingston. He handles a potential fight on a beach and says there is trouble in paradise. Oh. We shall see.

Punk is backstage and tells Joey Styles and Tazz how he'll choose between Henry and Fatty. It's a good promo and the fans seemed to react to it.

Match # 2 - Mixed Tag Team Match - Kelly Kelly & Balls Mahoney vs. Layla & Kenny Dykstra

Kelly sure can scream, can't she? I just don't know why she does.

She hits a slow-moving hurricanrana on Layla and then Balls cradles Kenny for the win. I went to the can, but came back in time to catch the ending. What'd I miss? Nothing? OK, good.

Winners via pinfall: Kelly Kelly & Balls Mahoney

Match # 3 - Jimmy Wang Yang vs. Shelton Benjamin

Benji gets on the mic and yammers on about promises. I just think he looks like a 1987-1988-era Butch Reed during his "Natural" phase.

Shelton would make a good fit on Smackdown and showed good chemistry working with Yang here. Benjamin catches Yang off the top with a gutbuster and then the bulldog DDT maneuver wins it.

Winner via pinfall: Shelton Benjamin

The video package that started the show is shown again. You know, it's funny, but I think Big Fatty looks like he grew some more the second time around. I think ECW tonight is about half in-ring action and half promos making us look at Hank and V. Yikes.

Match # 4 - Kevin Thorn vs. Jeff Lewis

The squash of the night. Thorn wins with his version of the Shock Treatment, even though Lewis was dropped on his side moreso than his back.

Winner via pinfall: Kevin Thorn

Big Fatty and Teach come to the ring and then Hank. Striker says Punk wanted him to make the decision so he flips a coin to see who gets Punk and Henry gets the match. Oh geez. I call Punk carrying this match as he's the only one that has any type of in-ring movement. In all seriousness, I smell a cheap ending with a run-in or two.

Match # 5 - CM Punk vs. Mark Henry w/ Big Daddy V & Matt Striker

Are titles ever defended on this show on a regular basis? This is another non-title match. Henry keeps Punk on the mat much of the match until the champ rallies with his running knee in the corner. Big Fatty gets in the ring and the ref calls for the oh-so-cheap disqualification.

Winner via DQ: CM Punk

Henry nails the World's Strongest Slam and Vis flattens Punk with a Samoan Drop before Kane's music hits and he makes the save. Kane ducks a V chair shot (who missed by about eight feet) and nails him with his own chair. Kane stares down the heels as the show ends.

Matt Mackinder is just filling in for SLAM! Wrestling's usual ECW writer, Matt Bishop. So have no fear, The Bish will be back next week.
