Impact: Alliances end and are formed
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
Turning Point is just around the corner, as TNA looks to round out the card and hopefully put together another highly successful PPV. With a good list of matches announced thus far, and a solid Impact episode last week, TNA is on quite the roll, will they be able to keep it up? Read the report and find out.
Highlights were shown from the last edition of Impact. What a main event, excellent stuff. Jeremy Borash announced that there would a Christian Coalition/Angle Alliance Summit. In the back, Christian Cage was with Robert Roode and warned him about Booker T and said that Booker T was looking to take his spot. Cage said he was only telling Roode because he was looking out for him. Roode said he knew and that he would take care of Booker T. Mike Tenay and Don West then did their usual hype, as Booker T and Sharmell made their way into the Impact Zone. Booker talked about coming to TNA to test himself and to go out with a bang by winning the TNA Heavyweight Championship. Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks came out and Roode ran down Booker and challenged him to a match on Impact and said he would leave his skank behind if Booker did the same. Booker went to jump at Roode, but Sharmell held him back, until Roode insulted her again and the fight was on. Security came in and broke things up as the Booker T vs. Robert Roode match was announced for later on Impact. In the back, Crystal was with Christy Hemme, Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave who said they had a problem with LAX, because they attacked Hemme. Putting Shelly Martinez into that mix should be pretty cool.
Match One - Eric Young and Gail Kim vs. Jimmy Rave and Christy Hemme w/ Lance Hoyt
Back and forth match that saw Lance Hoyt get involved, but to no avail. The end came when Christy Hemme went to take down Gail Kim, but was instead rolled up and pinned for the win. After the match, James Storm and Jackie Moore came out and Storm challenged Young to another drinking contest for the Drinking Championship. Young won again and was busted open with a bottle and then tossed around by Storm who declared himself the Drinking champion. Wow.
Winners Via Pinfall - Eric Young and Gail Kim
In the back, Jeremy Borash was with AJ Styles and Tomko. Styles said that he was the captain and he was going to get Kurt Angle and Christian Cage together and they would all be a well-oiled machine. Tomko reminded Styles that they hated each other, but Styles insisted that lots of celebrities that hated each other got along, and Tomko tells him that he watches too much TMZ. He said they need to get together because they have a match later. Some more hype was done for Booker T's in-ring debut on Impact as well as the Turning Point PPV. A package was then shown to highlight the feud between Team 3D and the X Division.
Match Two - Street Fight - Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) w/ Johnny Devine vs. Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt
This was just back and forth brawling with Team 3D really taking it to Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt. A table was brought into play on the outside and when Lethal went for some high risk offense, he was caned by Johnny Devine and sent through the table, allowing Team 3D to hit the 3D on Dutt for the win. After the match, Team 3D and Johnny Devine celebrated. Then they beat Lethal and Dutt down some with chucks until the Motor City Machine Guns ran out and made the save. Devine was toting around the X Division Championship belt, good idea right there.
Winners Via Pinfall - Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon)
AJ Styles was then shown pleading with Kurt Angle to talk to Christian Cage, as Karen Angle and Tomko watched. Finally Styles did some convincing and Kurt sent Karen to find Cage and talk to him s Tomko sat in the corner and drank his coffee saying that everything was great. A package was then shown for the 10,000 Thumbtacks Match. That should be insane.
Match Three - Rellik vs. Rhino
This one started off as a brawl, as Rhino just beat on Rellik. Rhino was able to connect with a Gore for the win, but after the match, Black Reign came down and double teamed him. Abyss then ran down and made the save as he and Rhino cleaned house. Abyss and Rhino then stared at one another and Abyss dropped a bag of tacks to symbolize what they would be going through at Turning Point.
Winner Via Pinfall - Rhino
Jeremy Borash was with AJ Styles and Tomko as they went to approach Christian Cage. Styles was nervous and sent Tomko in first and then ran in and hugged Cage who threw him against a wall. Cage said that he embarrassed him and stole his win. He said that Coalition was finished and Styles was sad. Cage says that he wants Styles to get Kurt Angle for him and Styles says he will get Karen Angle. Cage asks Tomko if Styles said Karen and Tomko says yes, because Kurt wouldn't talk to him. Cage got pissed as TNA went to a commercial break. Back from the break and the Christian Coalition/Angle Alliance summit was on, with Styles overseeing it. Styles got Karen and Cage to shake hands and presented them as a unit. Cage then grabbed Karen and said that he is going out there to win because that's what he does, but if she or Kurt tried to screw him, it would be a big mistake. This is a really good job TNA is doing here.
Match Four - Robert Roode w/ Ms. Brooks vs. Booker T w/ Sharmell
This was a good back and forth match. The Roert Roode Fan Club president, Rain, was watching along as Booker T battled the offensive flury that Roode threw at him, hitting the Axe Kick and picking up the victory. After the match, Christian Cage came down and beat on Booker T, as Roode joined in. The used a chair on him and then went after Sharmell, until Kaz ran in and made the save, telling Booker T he had his back and an alliance was formed.
Winner Via Pinfall - Booker T
Crystal was in the back with Scott Steiner who said that he was going to win the Battle Royal at Turning Point and said that TNA didn't have the Spaldings to fire him. Back from a break, and a package was shown to hype Turning Point. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were then shown watching Impact in the back.
Match Five - Eight Man Tag Team Match - Abyss, Kaz, Scott Steiner and Samoa Joe vs. Christian Cage, Kurt Angle, Tomko and AJ Styles
This was another excellent main event, as TNA scored yet again. The match eventually broke down and led to many finishers being hit and many near falls. After some back and forth action, Christian Cage went for the Unprettier on Samoa Joe, and AJ Styles accidentally Pele kicked Cage. Joe then threw Styles to the outside and hit a Muscle Buster on Cage for the win. After the match, Joe and his team celebrated as Kevin Nash and Scott Hall came out and gave the Wolfpack salute to Joe.
Winners Via Pinfall - Abyss, Kaz, Scott Steiner and Samoa Joe
The Impact Recap then played to round out another edition of Impact.
