Raw: Jericho saves us from Orton
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
Survivor Series was last night, but to heck with that! Chris Jericho returns, tonight! (Of course, certain people in the WWE don't think that I and thousands of other wrestling fans could have figured this out weeks ago; there must have been a leak onto that dirty, dirty inter-web.)
The show starts with a man running through the streets of Miami, Florida with a torch, ala the Olympics. OOKKAAYY.
Shawn Michaels kicks off the show in Ft. Lauderdale in a very chipper mood. HBK says the better man won last night, and he wants to invite Randy Orton to the ring to shake his hand. Orton appears on the Titantron and flat out says no. HBK admits that he would have kicked him again. Michaels states he wants a rematch. Orton knows HBK wants to end his career. Orton makes reference to the runner, and says he represents a passing of the torch. After Orton leaves, KENNEDY! Ken heads to the ring, but as the microphone is lowered, HBK attacks Kennedy, and the fight spills to the floor. Kennedy says it's his turn, before Michaels pulls him from the ring and hitting a short arm clothesline. HBK tells Kennedy to bring it on. Kennedy runs down HBK on the mic, saying all Michaels is known for is losing. William Regal interrupts, and calls for a ref so this can be done all nice a proper like.
Match #1 -- Shawn Michaels vs. Ken Kennedy
The bell still hasn't sounded as we return from break, and both men are brawling on the ramp. Kennedy and Michaels trade punches on the outside, and HBK gets clotheslined into the crowd. Kennedy is slammed into the announce table, and Michaels is slammed into the ring apron, and rolled into the ring. Kennedy grabs a chair, but has it superkicked back into his face, and flies off the apron. HBK's music hits as Kennedy is not getting up.
Match #2 -- Santino Marella vs. Jerry "The King" Lawler
Marella doesn't want Lawler to throw a punch, so Lawler drop kicks him. Both men tie up, and Lawler forces Marella into the corner. Santino reverses positions and drives his shoulder into Lawler. Marella uses an armbar takedown, and hits a flying head butt to the lower back. Marella slips to the outside, and starts to mock Lawler with a fake crown. Marella continues to taunt Lawler, and gets slapped across the face. The King hits a hip toss, and then gets the pin with a back slide.
Winner via pin fall: Jerry Lawler
Randy Orton comes down from out of nowhere and hits Lawler with the RKO. Orton says he couldn't help himself, and he gives us an update on his runner. He's still running.
The Grish wants Kennedy to shed some light on what happened earlier. (I'd say he got his butt handed to him.) Kennedy wants to know why Shawn would kick a chair into his face. Kennedy knows why, HBK sees his career slipping away. And all he should worry about now is Mr. Kennedy.
Vince thinks last night's show was one of the best. Regal and Coach loved the bits with Hornswoggle, and the match. Vince doesn't look happy about the results. Carlito enter the office. He wants to show Vince his appreciation for tough love. Vince wants to know how tough Carlito is by taking on a McMahon. A certain four foot tall McMahon. Carlito is more the happy to face the little guy.
Match #3 -- Jeff Hardy vs. Umaga
Hardy goes right after Umaga. Hardy tries to whip him out of the corner, but is thrown to the mat. Umaga misses a diving head butt, but Hardy is able to connect with a low drop kick. Jeff goes for the sunset flip, but can't get it over as Umaga grabs the ropes. Umaga stomps away at Hardy, and pulls him up by the hair. The Samoan Bulldozer locks in a nerve pinch. Hardy dodges a spear in the corner, and Hardy counters with a DDT. Umaga recovers quickly and pushes Hardy off the apron into the security barrier.
After the break, Umaga has the nerve hold applied again. Hardy elbows out, and goes for scoop slam, but Umaga just falls on him. Hardy kicks out at two. Umaga goes back to the nerve hold. Hardy tries for the ropes, but cannot get there. Hardy breaks free, but runs right into a back body drop. Umaga drops a leg, and then a knee. The Samoan Bulldozer kicks Hardy in the sternum. Hardy crawls to the apron, and hangs Umaga up on the top rope. Hardy goes to the top rope but is caught in mid air, and is slammed to the mat. Umaga drops on Hardy's chest from the middle rope, and then goes back to the nerve pinch. Hardy breaks free, but runs into a big boot. Umaga goes up top, but crashes and burns as Hardy rolls out of the way. Umaga hits an uppercut that sends Jeff into the corner. Hardy dodges a corner charge and answers with a Whisper in the Wind. Umaga blocks a Twist of Fate, but Hardy nails a mule kick. Umaga charges but catches all ring post. Hardy goes for the swanton and Umaga moves. The Samoan Bulldozer hits a Samoan drop and picks Jeff up for the spike. Umaga misses, and Hardy hits the Twist of Fate. Umaga rolls to the outside, and Hardy flies over the top rope with a plancha. Jeff gets back in the ring, when Snitsky runs in and attacks him. Hardy fights back, but Snitsky is too much, and Umaga joins him. Hardy is tossed from the ring, as Triple H heads to the ring. Hunter makes short work of Snitsky and hits Umaga with a spine buster. A clothesline sends Umaga to the outside. Snitsky is hit with a face buster, and then knocked from the ring.
Winner via DQ: Jeff Hardy
Hunter tells The Grish he is here to tell everyone is what a bad ass he is. As for Jeff Hardy, he has respect for him.
Match #4 -- Hardcore Holly vs. Cody Rhodes
Cody and Holly lock up. Cody turns his back on Holly, and gets turned around and chopped across the chest. Holly slams Rhodes twice to the mat, and slaps on a head lock. Rhodes breaks out a side Russian leg sweep, but then runs into a standing dropkick. Holly goes for the Alabama Slam, but Rhodes slips out, hits a DDT and covers for the win.
Winner via pinfall: Cody Rhodes
Once again, Orton sticks his nose in after the match giving Rhodes an RKO and then delivers one to Holly. The torch is still running.
Vince calls Finlay into his office. Vince isn't happy about last night, but then the two discuss their heritage and decide to have a drink after the show. Finlay suggests milk for someone his age, but Finlay was joking around.
Ric Flair returns to RAW next week.
Match #5 -- Jillian Hall and Melina vs. Maria and Mickie James
Melina grabs the mic, but Jillian wants to talk first and calls out singer John Secada, who is here for Lillian Garcia. Jillian says she will blow him away with some Latino music. She then shows off her opera skills. After all that nonsense, Jillian lands on Melina after Maria dodges a moonsault. Mickie tags in but only gets a two count after a neck breaker. Maria breaks up a double team, allowing Mickie to get the advantage. She plants a kiss on Jillian followed by the Mick Kick for the win.
Winner via pin fall: Maria and Mickie James
Match #6 -- Carlito vs. Hornswoggle -- No Disqualifications
Lil' Horny makes his way from under the ring. Carlito looks very pleased with himself. Carlito lightly slaps Hornswoggle around, and disrespects him even more by asking for a test of strength. Carlito gets on his knees for the test of strength, and pushes Horny down. The little guy bites him on the rear. Carlito chases him around the ring and announce table. Hornswoggle finds refuge under the ring. Carlito gets back in the ring, stalking the little guy. Hornswoggle gets out on the other side with a bucket of water. He tosses the bucketful, and then goes for a cross body. Carlito catches him, and tosses him back in the ring. Carlito takes a big bite of apple, but doesn't see Finlay come up from behind. Finlay and Carlito face off, and Carlito spits apple into Finlay's face. Fit lays out Carlito and tosses Horny on top of Carlito, who hooks the leg for the win. Hornswoggle then spits apple on Carlito.
Winner via pinfall: Hornswoggle
Randy Orton comes to the ring for his passing of the torch ceremony. (T-minus one minute to Chris Jericho. Does it even matter what Orton says?) The runner enters the arena as Orton runs his mouth. The torch bearer runs into some one, who stands with his arms out and back to the camera. The viral video plays as the arena goes dark and it ends with SAVE_US.Y2J. Chris Jericho has entered the building! Orton is stunned as Jericho receives a standing ovation. Jericho speaks to the crowd. "Welcome to RAW is JERICHO! This is the second coming of Y2J!"
Orton wants to know who he thinks he is. The champ wants to know what Jericho is saving us from. Why Randy Orton, of course.
