Impact: Kaz gets his title shot
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

Though not shocking in terms of surprises, Genesis was an excellent PPV all around. Moving right along to Impact, Kaz looks to take advantage of his new number one contendership by taking on Kurt Angle in a battle for the belt. Also on tap, Robert Roode, LAX and The Awesome Kong will be in action. So without further ado, onto the report.

Jim Cornette started off the show by telling Mike Tenay and Don West that they couldn't announce Booker T or Sharmell because they hadn't signed contracts yet. Cornette was all upset because while he was away, TNA got all sorts of crazy. Highlights were then shown of the last edition of Impact. Kurt and Karen Angle, along with AJ Styles and Tomko came out. Angle talked about them being the Angle Alliance and how proud he was of Karen for stepping up and taking care of his problems. He said that they were a family. Kevin Nash came out and asked Kurt about them being a family. Kurt told Nash that he was a has-been and he just brought Kurt down. Nash said that he had Sting beat, but Angle disagrees and a brawl ensuses, with the X Division stars coming to Nash's aide. Christian Cage was then shown arriving at the Impact Zone. Back from a commercial break, Crystal ran into Kevin Nash who was on the phone and told the person on the other end to get there right away. He then said that the fun was about to begin.

Match One - LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) vs. Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave w/ Christy Hemme

This was pretty solid. Nice to see Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave back. LAX had things under control, until Christy Hemme distracted Homicide, allowing Rave to roll him up for the win. After the match, LAX beat down Rave and the mystery Latina came in and hit Hemme with a slapjack.

Winners Via Pinfall - Lance Hoyt and Jimmy Rave

Team 3D came out with the X Division Championship and said that they also had an X Division star held hostage. They then tore up the X Division and said it was done. In the back, Crystal was with Christian Cage who said that he hadn't spoken to AJ Styles or Tomko. He said they cost him his match with Kaz and then helped Kurt Angle without consulting him. He said that he had some questions for them and they better have good answers. Mike Tenay and Don West then did a little recapping of Impact thus far.

Match Two - Chris Harris and Gail Kim vs. Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks

This was a good back and forth match. It's nice to have the Knockouts featured a bit more. They really are trying to showcase that division heavily and that's good. The end came when Robert Roode demanded Ms. Brooks give him a chair to hit Chris Harris with, but when she refused, he took one anyway and smacked Harris while the referee was distracted, knocking Harris out and picking up the win. After the match, Roode continued to beat on Harris, as Ms. Brooks tried to stop him. Ms. Brooks then shoved Roode and got into it with Roode's fan club president as Roode watched on in approval.

Winners Via Pinfall - Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks

Crystal found Scott Hall in the back and he said that he and Kevin Nash are here to take on Kurt Angle and the Angle Alliance. In the back, Jim Cornette was arguing with Matt Morgan and asking how he could let Booker T and Sharmell on the PPV without them being under contract. Lance Hoyt then rushed in about the Latino thug that attacked Christy Hemme, of course, the Latino is actually a Latina, *cough* Shelly Martinez *cough*. Team 3D came back out with their kidnapped X Division star and demanded that the Motor City Machine Guns come out and meet their demands of Ding Dongs and Yoohoo's. The Guns along with the rest of the X Division came out and said they had Team 3D's mothers in the back, or as they referred to them, Ho-Ho's. This led to Team 3D beating down their victim, who they revealed to be Havoc. Jay Lethal demanded his X Division title back, but Team 3D said they had to come and get it and announced that there was a traitor in the X Division. The X Division ran down, as Havoc grabbed his cane and helped Team 3D beat down the X Division, revealing that Havoc was the traitor. In the back, Jeremy Borash was with AJ Styles and Tomko who apologized to Christian Cage and said that they were only looking out for him and that he wouldn't understand. Styles asked if he would get demoted, and JB said probably to "Co-Captain," to which Styles said he could handle.

Kevin Nash and Scott Hall were shown talking. Back from a commercial break, with a package about James Mitchell saying how he promised to ruin Abyss. He also reminded Abyss that Judas Mesias would be back. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall came out and said that they just got done talking to Jim Cornette and at Turning Point, it would be The Angle Alliance vs. Scott Hall, Kevin Nash and a mystery partner that they would reveal by the end of Impact. Mike Tenay and Don West chatted for a bit as a package was shown, showcasing the arrival of Rellik aka Johnny "The Bull" Stamboli.

Match Three - Triple Threat Match - Abyss vs. Black Reign w/ Misty vs. Rellik

Black Reign and Rellik double teamed Abyss and just wore him down, however, Abyss was able to mount and comeback and hit a Black Hole Slam on Rellik for the win. After the match, Reign and Rellik beat down Abyss with a steel chair and the sharp object that Reign carries around. Rhino then ran out and made the save.

Winner Via Pinfall - Abyss

Jeremy Borash was in the back with Kurt Angle who said that he wasn't afraid of Kevin Nash and Scott Hall and said that maybe their partner was Sean Waltman. That is, if he had enough brain cells to find the Impact Zone. He then said that he was going to defeat Kaz and retain his title.

Match Four - Alexis Jade vs. The Awesome Kong

Squash and it's too bad. Jade had an excellent match on the last edition of Impact with Gail Kim. However, a Kong Bomb does her in to keep the streak going for The Awesome Kong. After the match, Kim came out and went after Kong as the refs tried to separate them, only for Kong to catch Kim with a clothesline and lay her out with a Kong Bomb.

Winner Via Pinfall - The Awesome Kong

Jim Cornette came out and introduced Booker T and Sharmell to sign their TNA contracts. Both came out and did just that, with Booker calling himself, Booker T ... NA. Christian Cage came out and ran down Booker and said that there weren't any crowns or thrones and that he was the only king in TNA and that if Booker wanted a title shot, he had to step to the back of the line and told him to take his "nappy headed ho" with him. Booker then beat down Cage who ran away as Booker said that he took his spot and asked if he could dig that, Suckkkaaaa!

A package was then shown hyping Kaz. In the back, Jeremy Borash caught up with Kaz who said that he was going to give it his all and do his best to capture the TNA Heavyweight Championship.

Match Five - TNA Heavyweight Championship Match - Kurt Angle w/ Karen Angle (C) vs. Kaz

Excellent main event. Kaz has just elevated his game so much it's amazing. Lots of back and forth action here, with Kaz nearly capturing the belt, however, Angle was able to hit a DDT/Guillotine combination pin for the win. Tremendous main event for Impact. After the match, Kaz told Angle that he was so close to beating him. Kevin Nash and Scott Hall came out and cornered Angle and beat him down as AJ Styles and Tomko ran out to make the save. Samoa Joe's music then hit and Samoa Joe ran down and cleaned house, standing tall with his new partners, Hall and Nash. Wow, that could be a pretty good match at Turning Point.

Winner Via Pinfall and STILL TNA Heavyweight Champion - Kurt Angle

The Impact Recap then played to round out another edition of Impact.

Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and likes garlic bread.
