Order Chris Jericho : A Lions Tale

As Chris Jericho, Christopher Keith Irvine rose to stardom in the circus that is the wrestling world.

Having conquered wrestling, Irvine became a rock star, fronting Fozzy. And now, he's an author, a good one at that. Jericho's book, A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex, has just been released and it's a must-read ... and not just for wrestling fans.

Jericho is a true throwback, a man of 1,004 holds and thankfully many more words. Jericho, who seems poised to return to WWE after more than a two-year absence, says the book was a labour of love.

"It's not so much a wrestling book," he said. "It's not a book with tabloid headlines. It's about my dream and how hard I worked to get there. It's an action-adventure story.

"I didn't write it for Chris Jericho fans or wrestling fans. This could be about a florist or a sanitation worker. It's the story of a small-town kid with an insurmountable goal. This is the journey.

"The journey is very unique. Other than Bret Hart, I was probably the last person who could write this kind of story. This is kind of The Last of the Mohicans. You come in now and work for a developmental company and they pay you $50,000 or $70,000 a year.

"I had to lick stamps and send letters off to promoters. I worked in small-town Canada, small-time Mexico, then big-time Mexico (then Japan).

That all helped me. If I came in today, I probably would not have reached the level I did."

Just like when he grabs a microphone, Jericho is a wonderful storyteller.

"I wanted to write this like an episode of The Family Guy, with a lot of pop culture thrown in," he said. "I don't have a problem poking fun at myself." For the most part, it's Jericho being Jericho. But others are buying into it.

"Kirkus Literary Review, a very snobby (publication), said they enjoyed my book," Jericho said. "The review started: 'Imagine that This is Spinal Tap was about wrestling and true.'"

RING NOTES: TNA is coming to Canada: Hull (Dec. 28), Montreal (Dec. 29) and Quebec City (Dec. 30) ... WWE's Cyber Sunday pay-per-view is tomorrow night ... Candice Michelle took an awkward tumble off the top rope during RAW. In her match against Beth Phoenix, Michelle suffered a cracked clavicle and is expected to be sidelined up to eight weeks.
