Impact: Crowning a new old champion
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

On this edition of Impact, Kurt Angle gets his chance to regain the TNA Heavyweight Championship, as he challenges "The Icon" Sting. Also on tap, Junior Fatu takes on Robert Roode in the Main Event for advancement in the number one contenders tournament. Plus LAX, VKM, The Awesome Kong and more on another action packed and overfilled edition of Impact.

The show began with a recap of the last edition of Impact. In the back, Jeremy Borash was with Kurt and Karen Angle, when Kurt asked if Kevin Nash would be arriving. Nash arrived and was presented with an autographed picture from Kurt that had "BFF" on it. Ha, ha. Kurt wanted Nash on his side, but Nash said he was looking forward to watching Sting beat him up. Mike Tenay and Don West did a bunch of hype and then pitched it to some in-ring action.

Match One - Eight Man Tag Team Match - LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) and The Steiners (Rick and Scott Steiner) vs. VKM (BG and Kip James), AJ Styles and Tomko w/ Roxxi Laveaux

This was a pretty good match, with LAX looking strong in the end. Laveaux got involved by spitting at Hernandez, however a mystery Latino hit the ring and gave Homicide a slap jack, that he used on BG James to pick up the win.

Winners Via Pinfall - LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) and The Steiners (Rick and Scott Steiner)

Sting was with Crystal and said that this match wasn't about the title, it was about the fact that Kurt Angle messed with his son. He said that he was going to beat Angle once again. Kurt and Karen Angle were watching this along with Kevin Nash and Jeremy Borash. Kurt kept trying to persuade Nash to help him, but Nash said he only understood sex and money and he wasn't getting paid. Angle then tried to do some pimping to get Nash back in his corner.

Match Two - Fight For The Right Tournament Quarter-Final Match - James Storm w/ Jackie Moore vs. Eric Young

After a back and forth match that included some involvement from Jackie Moore, Storm was able to land the "Last Call" superkick for the win. After the match, Moore offered Young a beer, Storm argued over the decision, but eventually tossed Young the beer at the request of Moore.

Winner Via Pinfall - James Storm

Karen Angle was in the back with Jeremy Borash and Kevin Nash. She wanted to help persuade Nash to help Kurt Angle, but Nash wasn't buying. He said that she was with Kurt and that's where she can stay. He told Borash that a cold shower would take of him just fine. Next up was a pre-taped interviewed with Team 3D, where they basically laid out the fact that they were going to systematically destroy the X Division.

Match Three - Four Way Match - Havok vs. Petey Williams vs. Shark Boy vs. Sonjay Dutt

After some early action, Team 3D hit the ring and took out all the competitors. They then set up two tables and double powerbombed Petey Williams and Havok through them. What a beating.

Winner - No Contest

In the back, Crystal was with Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks. Brooks questioned Roode for attacking Samoa Joe on the last edition of Impact, but Roode justified it by saying that he was tired of seeing the same guys showcased and he wanted to be the top dog. He didn't want to be in the background anymore and he was going to show Junior Fatu what Robert Roode is all about.

Match Four - TNA Heavyweight Championship Match - Sting (C) vs. Kurt Angle w/ Karen Angle

Jeremy Borash came out to do the special ring announcing. This was a real good match. Tons of back and forth action till the end, when Kevin Nash came out to provide a distraction on behalf of Angle. Sting fought them both off and got Angle in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Nash popped back up and Sting again had to fend him off. Angle wound up sending Sting into Nash and bumping the referee. He then hit the Angle Slam and a new ref came down to make the count and award Kurt Angle the TNA Heavyweight Championship. After the match, Angle and Nash were going to shake, but Angle instead gave Nash the middle finger. The two referees argued over the decision as Jim Cornette came out. Back from the commercial break and the argument was still going on. Jim Cornette told the referees that they would watch the tape in the back and make an official decision. Mike Tenay yelled at Cornette and was told to sit down and do his job. Wow, what a segment. It was also announced during the match that LAX would be challenging AJ Styles and Tomko for the TNA Tag Team Championships on the next edition of Impact.

Winner Via Pinfall and NEW TNA Heavyweight Champion - Kurt Angle

Match Five - Awesome Kong vs. Angel Williams

Another squash to get the Awesome Kong over. Kong bomb does the job.

Winner Via Pinfall - Awesome Kong

Black Reign's attack on Abyss was recapped, while in the back, Abyss was destroying Reign's workshop. Reign came in and attacked Abyss as James Mitchell laughed along. Reign put Abyss' head in a vice and then placed the rat on him again. Wow, this feud can be really good if TNA stays on track. Back from a commercial break, Kevin Nash was in Jim Cornette's office demanding a match with Kurt Angle. Matt Morgan got mad and said that he wanted to take down Nash. Cornette told Nash that he would address his issue after he addressed the finish of the match, which he blamed on Nash. Shimmer's Rain was at ringside still acting as the president of the Robert Roode fan club. Christian Cage came out with a ladder to watch the match and replaced Mike Tenay on commentary.

Match Six - Fight For The Right Tournament Quarter-Final Match - Robert Roode w/ Ms. Brooks vs. Junior Fatu

This was a pretty solid main event. The end came when the ref got bumped and Junior Fatu gave Robert Roode the superkick/Stinkface combo. Roode was livid and low-blowed Fatu and demanded that Ms. Brooks give him the chair that she was sitting in. She refused, so Roode toosed her out of it and went to use it when Samoa Joe came out and stole it away, laying out Roode with it. Roode was then hit with the Kishi Driver for the win. After the match, Joe attacked Christian Cage, while in the back, Kevin Nash chased Kurt Angle who left Karen Angle behind and took off in his car.

Winner Via Pinfall - Junior Fatu

Jim Cornette and Mike Tenay were shown talking. Cornette apologized to Tenay for yelling at him and went on to say that one ref counted Kurt Angle pinning Sting, while the other ref wanted to disqualify Kevin Nash, however, since Sting hit Nash first and Nash didn't hit Sting, Angle's pinfall counts and Angle is the new TNA Heavyweight Champion. Cornette then went on to say that at Genesis the TNA Heavyweight Championship will be on the line in a Tag Team match, with Kurt Angle and Kevin Nash teaming up to take on Sting and qualified mystery partner, with the winner of the fall getting the TNA Heavyweight championship. The Impact recap then played to round out another edition of Impact.
