Raw: The lobbying continues for Cyber Sunday
By DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling

I'm really back this time. Due to technical difficulties (Thanks Comcast) I missed last weeks RAW, so I hope I can still follow what's going on. Oh, and there's a PPV this Sunday in which the fans can "vote" on match-ups and stipulations.

MISSSSTEEEEERRR KEEENNEDDY is alone in the ring as RAW kicks off from Omaha, Nebraska. Kennedy is stumping for votes to face Randy Orton. First, he compares Jeff Hardy to Hillary Clinton. (Um, do any off you care about comparisons to U.S. politicians?) He calls HBK the Rudy Giuliani of WWE. And finally, Kennedy paraphrases JFK by asking, "Ask not what Mr. Kennedy can do for you; ask what can you do for Mr. Kennedy."

Jeff Hardy address Kennedy from the crowd. Hardy tells Kennedy his approval rating sucks. The two have an all out debate over who should face Orton. Ken has heard enough and tries to leave. Hardy hits the ring, taking down Kennedy. Randy Orton hits the ring, and Hardy is double teamed. Shawn Michaels makes the save before Orton can kick Hardy in the head. HBK chases Orton to the back, and Hardy goes back to work on Kennedy, clotheslining him over the top rope.

Match #1 -- Mickie James, Paul London and Brian Kendrick vs. Melina, Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch

Cade clubs London over the back. London responds with a cross body. Kendrick tags in and gets a near fall with a sunset flip. Mickie tags herself in, wanting to mix it up with Cade, but Melina has to come in under the rules of the match. Mickie gets in a shot, and Melina scurries back to her corner and tags in Cade. Kendrick is taken down with a chin breaker, and Cade follows with an elbow. London gets the hot tag, taking down Murdoch with a spinning heel kick. Melina tries to get involved but Mickie cuts her off. Murdoch pushed Mickie away and takes a running clothesline from his partner. London hits a standing shooting star press and covers Murdoch for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Mickie James, Paul London, and Brian Kendrick

HBK has a little chat with Jeff Hardy in the lockerroom. HBK sys Orton tries to end his career. HBK wants to turn Orton into a shell of man and hit the third Sweet Chin Music. Hardy says he needs his chance. Hardy says he won't drop him, but he will do exactly what HBK would do.

Shelton Benjamin checks in on Cody Rhodes as he reads WWE Magazine. Benji takes some verbal shots at Cody for losing to Bob Holly, and informs him the he'll be taking him on, tonight. Rhodes says he respects Hardcore Holly. Benjamin says he will embarrass him in front of the world.

Coach talks William Regal into booking Hornswoggle into a match with Umaga.

William Regal is still looking for Hornswoggle. He runs into the Highlanders and wants to know why they turned down a match against London and Kendrick. Robbie (or is it Rory) says they want a championship match.

Match #2 -- Cody Rhodes vs. Shelton Benjamin w/ Charlie Haas

Benjamin starts off with right, and then a kick to the gut. Benjamin works over the leg of Rhodes. Cody fights back, and counters with a knee. Rhodes follows with a bulldog. Haas with a distraction and Benjiman tries for a rollup. Rhodes reverse it and gets the pin.

Winner via pinfall: Cody Rhodes

After the match, Haas and Benjamin double team Rhodes, but Hardcore Holly runs in to make the save. Holly gives Rhodes a nod of approvement.

Match #3 -- D.H. Smith vs. Carlito

Smith is the British Bulldog's son, Harry, and he dedicates his first match to his dad. Smith with a side head lock, and takes down Carlito with a shoulder block. Carlito hits a springboard drop kick, and then chops Smith in the corner. Carlito with a scoop slam, but only gets a two count. Carlito with a hard clothesline, and then clubbing blows to the back. Smith hits a European uppercut, and then hits two dropkicks. Smith follows with a northern lights suplex, but only gets a two count. D.H. catches Carlito and hits a running power slam to get the win.

Winner via pinfall: D.H. Smith

Beth Phoenix and Candice Michelle verbally face off before their match. Beth Phoenix says Candice will get down on her knees and worship her. Candice says she gets on her knees for no one. (Ummm ... that's not what I heard.)

Match #4 -- Umaga vs. Hornswoggle

When Lillian introduces Hornswoggle, the little guy doesn't come down the ramp, instead he pops out from under the ring, less than enthused. Coach orders Hornswoggle into the ring, but the leprechaun runs off to the back. Triple H makes his entrance. Hunter and Umaga trade blows, and Trips takes him down. Several referees try to separate the two. Umaga is tossed from the ring, and he pulls Triple H with him. HHH grabs a chair, but Umaga blocks it. Hunter is tossed over the announce table, but gets to his feet, crashing into Umaga after leaping off the table. Umaga and Triple H fight up the ramp, where they are finally separated.

No Contest

After the break, Umaga is trashing the backstage area. The monster finally calms down.

The Diva search is finally on TV. BOOOOOOOOO!!!! (And several fans in attendance seem to agree with me.)

Kennedy gets in Orton's face in the locker room. Orton says the only reason he came out was to stop Jeff Hardy, since he is his partner, tonight. Orton tells Kennedy that he won't get a title shot at Cyber Sunday, because people don't like him. Kennedy says he's planning on winning every match he's in, but afterward he may make a statement.

Santino Marella with Maria reviews the 500th edition of WWE magazine. Santino is upset he isn't mentioned once in it, but he is interrupt by SAVE_US.X29 promo. Santino wants to know if Stone Cold sent that message, but Santino said that would take guts. Santino threatens that Stone Cold better not show up. Ron Simmons has heard enough and makes his way to the ring

Match #5 -- Santino Marella vs. Ron Simmons

Simmons backs Santino into a corner, and punches away. Santino slaps on a chin lock. Simmons elbows his way out. Santino then kicks Simmons in the groin region, and is DQ'ed by the ref.

Winner via DQ: Ron Simmons

The Grish is with Triple H. Hunter says he doesn't care what type of match, because tonight Triple H saw doubt in Umaga's eyes.

Match #6 -- Candice Michelle vs. Beth Phoenix -- Best Two out of Three falls -- Women's Title match

(I think this match is three falls too many.) Beth scores the first fall after a double hand choke slam. Phoenix knocks Candice off the turnbuckle and Candice falls face first onto the mat. Phoenix pulls her to the middle of the ring and pins her for the win.

Winner via pinfall: Beth Phoenix

After the match, the doctor checks on Candice. She is coherent, but he stills calls for a stretcher. King and JR treat this as a real injury, as they should because I don't think she meant to fall on her face. Candice is taken out of the ring on back board. [Editor's note: Reports are that Candice suffered a cracked clavicle and will be out 4-6 weeks.)

Match #7 -- Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels vs. Randy Orton and Ken Kennedy

HBK and Kennedy start off with an arm and elbow tie up. Kennedy breaks the hold in the corner and throws punches. Michaels reverses and responds with knife-edge chops. Hardy tags in and hits a short arm clothesline, and follows with an elbow off the top rope. Kennedy avoids the splash, and Orton gets the tag. Hardy goes up and over, but Orton still connects with a clothesline. HBK gets the hot tag, hitting Kennedy with an atomic drop, and then cuts off a cheap shot from Orton. Kennedy uses the distraction to drive a knee into HBK. Orton tags back in and works over Michaels. Kennedy locks in an abdominal stretch. Ken hits a back breaker, not once, but twice. Orton stomps away at HBK, but takes to much time to pose. Kennedy drives a knee in Michaels' back. Orton locks on a body scissors. Both men trade shots. HBK hits a enzuguri, and Hardy gets the hot tag. Hardy hits a mule kick, and then a low drop kick in the corner. HBK sends Orton to the floor, and hits a plancha. Hardy hits the Whisper in the Wind, but is cut down on the turnbuckle. Hardy fights off Kennedy and hits the swanton. Hardy covers Kennedy to get the win. Orton slips into the ring and goes for the RKO on Hardy, but turns right into Sweet Chin Music from HBK.

Winner via pinfall: Jeff Hardy and Shawn Michaels
