Jericho coy about return to ring
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
Listening to the Beatles' Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band backward might provide more clues to Chris Jericho's return than talking to the Ayatollah of Rock 'N Rolla himself.
"It's the 'Paul is Dead' of wrestling," Jericho said over the phone when asked if he plans on returning to a WWE ring soon. "I don't think there are any clues to find.
"But it adds to the whole legacy. It'll be like a Police reunion, or David Lee Roth returning to Van Halen.
"No deal has been signed. But a lot of times I'm the last one to know."
Jericho admits he's getting the itch to return to the ring but won't say when it'll be.
"When I left, I wasn't retiring ... I needed a break, I was mentally fried," he said. "When I first left wrestling, I couldn't have cared less about it, but after I finished the book (A Lion's Tale:Around the World in Spandex), I realized what wrestling meant to me.
"I will go back, absolutely, but when I'm ready. I'll be back sooner than 10 years and later than tomorrow. I really don't know. I'm working on this book tour for the next four weeks and my goal is to promote the book."
Check out next week's column as Jericho talks about his book.
AROUND THE RING: Booker T and his wife, Sharmel1, asked for and got their WWE releases. WWE also dumped Daivari ... Beautiful WWE Diva Maria is single, it seems. Maria told England's The Sun that she split from boyfriend CM Punk four months ago. "At this point, at my age, work has to come first," Maria, who also said she'd like to pose for Playboy, said ... BOUND FOR GLORY: Sting beat Kurt Angle to become the TNA world champ at Sunday's Bound for Glory pay-per-view. But Angle regained the title on Impact. Other Bound for Glory results: The Latin American Xchange defeated XXX; Eric Young won the first round of the Fight For The Right tournament; AJ Styles and Tomko beat Team Pacman to become the new tag team champs; Jay Lethal beat Christopher Daniels; The Steiner Brothers beat Team 3D in a tables match; Gail Kim became the first TNA women's champion by winning the Gauntlet Battle Royal; Samoa Joe handed Christian Cage his first submission defeat in TNA; and Abyss won the Monster's Ball Match, pinning Raven.
