Smackdown: David vs. Goliath...again...

We're days away from No Mercy, and while Raw's main event is up in the air,
Smackdown's all set for the big Sunday show. Nevertheless, it should be an interesting
night of sports entertainment. Let's get to the pre-recorded action.
We open, of course, with a video detailing John Cena's injury and the vacancy
of the WWE Title, before we head to the ring with the World Champion Batista
coming out for an interview. Irony, thy name is Kevin Dunn.
Before Batista starts speaking, Michael Cole describes the Punjabi Prison as
the Chamber of Horrors, a term Batista himself uses later. Anyone else see a
parallel here? Maybe they need Abdullah the Butcher just to hammer it into the
ground.
The Great Khali then appears on the Smackitron with his sidekick for the usual
threats. Batista responds, and somehow I'm even less interested in seeing the
match on Sunday. Thank god the Philly boys are handling the PPV.
Match 1 - Chuck Palumbo (w/Michelle McCool) vs. Ace Steel
And officially, another Second City Saint makes his debut. Please let the three
team up at Survivor Series.
Alas, "The Donald" doesn't quite get a chance to show much. Palumbo
wins easily.
Winner: Chuck Palumbo
Post-match, Chris Masters returns after mysteriously being away for a month.
Palumbo fades quickly to the Master Lock. I bet Steel would've survived.
For some reason, on the way back in, we see a promo package for Big Daddy V.
I guess he is coming to Smackdown.
Match 2 - Jimmy Yang vs. Jamie Noble
Before the match begins, we see Hornswoggle giving up the Cruiserweight belt
to Vickie Guerrero. We'll see if the strapper ever returns.
The match itself is a strong bout, with both men pulling out some killer moves,
including Yang's Tiger Wall Flip and Noble using the Million Dollar Dream (not
acknowledged). Noble ends up winning with the Gibson Buster. Great match.
Winner: Jamie Noble
Next, we look at the Diva Search obstacle course challenge. Yay.
Match 3 - MVP/Matt Hardy vs. Deuce/Domino
Before the Greasers come down, however, MVP challenges Matt to push-up contest.
The two, entertainingly, trash talk each other until MVP sweeps Matt's arm out
from underneath him. Chalk up another one for Porter.
The match, as has been the tradition with MVP and Hardy as a team, is very
entertaining, on their part. Deuce and Domino, however, are passable like always,
which is even more noticeable as the match seems to go on forever. After a long
heat run on MVP, Hardy comes in and gets the W with some help from his partner.
Winners: MVP/Matt Hardy
As the tag champs walk to the back, Kane comes out and stares both down before
his match.
Match 4 - Kane vs. Kenny Dykstra
The match is joined in progress and is little more than a squash.
Winner: Kane
Backstage, Vickie is talking to Michelle McCool when the tag champs come in.
MVP suggests Matt vs. The Undertaker. Vickie, however, makes 'Taker and Kane
versus MVP and Hardy, but no date is mentioned.
We then go back to Raw, again. Man, I don't remember this much coverage on
Raw when Edge or Batista had to relinquish their belts...
Next up is another alpha numeric promo, this time with the emphasis Savior
Self.
Match 5 - Jesse/Festus vs. Chad Collyer/Mike Tollar
Collyer, of course, is a former TNA vet, and Festus, of course, is the former
Faker Kane. The other two...I don't know.
Not bad showing by the new team, as Festus wins the match after the Derailer.
Winners: Jesse/Festus
Match 6 - Rey Mysterio vs. The Great Khali
As one would expect, it's squash city early in the match, but Mysterio gets
a decent heat segment before Finlay interferes, drawing the DQ.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Soon it's a two-on-one, but eventually, Batista breaks up the festivities to close the show.
Well, the show tonight was good, but did nothing to raise my interest in seeing the PPV Sunday. Somehow, I don't think I'm alone in that thought.
