Promising return for Jericho
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

WWE's storylines are a lot like a Tim Wakefield knuckleball.

When they're good, you have no idea where the next one is going to go. When they're bad, you just want to close your eyes and hope for the best.

Now comes a mysterious videoclip tease on Monday Night RAW. The tease seems to provide clues that the Ayatollah of Rock and Rolla, Chris Jericho, is on his way back, perhaps for the Oct. 7 No Mercy pay-per-view.

What a relief it would be to see the King of Bling Bling, the Sexy Beast, the King of the World, Winnipeg's own Christopher Irvine return to a WWE ring. When we last saw him, more than two years ago, Jericho had lost a "You're Fired" match to John Cena.

WHAT YOU THINK
WWE teased a return of a former star on Raw last night. Who do you think it'll be?
Chris Jericho - 64%
Big Show - 13%
Goldberg - 4%
Brock Lesnar - 5%
Someone else - 14%
A return makes a lot of sense. Jericho has a book -- A Lion's Tale: Around the World in Spandex -- out soon (with signing appearances in Toronto on Nov.. 14 and Winnipeg on Nov. 15). So the timing would seem perfect. And WWE could sure use Jericho's wonderful charisma. Let's hope that WWE delivers the goods on this one.

NEW LAWYER: A new lawyer was appointed Thursday to represent the personal physician of Chris Benoit, who killed his family and then himself last June under circumstances that some suggest may have been linked to steroid abuse.

Judge Russell Vineyard appointed Natasha Perdew Silas of the federal defender's office to represent Dr. Phil Astin after Astin's private lawyer, Manny Arora, asked to be removed from the case because Astin can no longer pay his legal bills.

Astin faces U.S. federal charges of overprescribing medication, but prosecutors have said they are moving forward with plans to seek a superseding indictment bringing more charges.

AROUND THE RING: The New Hart Foundation? It's soon gotta be time. They belong in WWE. Together ... Several reports say Randy Orton missed RAW because he married girlfriend Samantha Speno ...TNA's Judas Mesias got hurt in Mexico while jumping from a ladder inside the ring to the outside ... TNA Impact expands to two hours on Oct. 4. If you've never given Impact a shot, tune in to Spike TV at 9 p.m.

SHORTSTUFF: I want to like Hornswoggle's shenanigans ... and they do make me laugh, but Ican't help but think WWE threw the little guy into the Vince McMahon illegitimate son storyline at the last minute. There has to be more.
