Latest PPV DVDs offer hope
By JON WALDMAN -- SLAM! Wrestling
In the latest run of WWE PPV DVDs, the Home Video division shows a learning curve. If you look at the order of releases, it looks like the division gets back on its feet and starts to again put effort into the extras. There's still something missing though. Hopefully, the boys and girls in WWEHV are paying attention. Let's go to the discs. Backlash Extras: Rating: 0 out of 5 - Yep, that's it - only two extras and they're both interviews. The RVD interview is a strong one, but really - in the long run, the program with Vince went nowhere (we'll chalk that up to Van Dam's plans to leave the Fed). Given the history Backlash has, a bonus match would have been incredible here, but as is, don't bother with this DVD. Judgment Day SLAM! Wrestling report: WWE just passes on Judgment Day Extras: Rating: 2 out of 5 - The New Breed mini-doc is a good watch, but the rest is really throwaway. This DVD screams for an extra match, but once again WWE doesn't deliver. It's sad. Really, really sad. One Night Stand SLAM! Wrestling report: One Night Stand a PPV gong show Extras: Rating: 3 out of 5 - The interviews are okay, but the butter of this DVD is the Raw match. Not only does it give fans context for the bout at ONS, but is a keepsake of RVD's last TV match in the Fed. Vengeance SLAM! Wrestling report: Vengeance banal and badly booked Extras: Rating: 4 out of 5 - It's hard to look past the larger picture of what transpired on this night (the Benoit murder-suicide), but if you can do so, get this DVD, because the interviews with wrestling legends are fantastic. Jon Waldman has been with SLAM! since 2000. |
