Raw: SummerSlam main event set
DALE PLUMMER -- SLAM! Wrestling
The Great American Bash is in the books, and it seems only fitting that Monday Night Raw is coming to us from the home of the Sacramento Kings. And not because of Booker T's story line.
Coach kicks off the show, taking credit for the success of the GAB, due to the RAW brand. Coach says tonight he will name a new number one contender, and tonight's main event will be a "champions only" match. Intercontinental Champion Umaga will team up with the World Tag Team champs, Cade and Murdoch, and take on Women's champ Candice Michelle and WWE Champion John Cena.
Booker T is the first out after the intro, and the ring is set up for a king. Booker sits in his thrown, and addresses Jerry "Jerome" Lawler, once again. Booker wants Lawler to come to the ring, so they can discuss who the real king is in WWE. Lawler takes him up on the offer. Booker states his case, and Lawler offers a rebuttal. Jerry calls Booker a pompous, idiotic pain in the rear. Lawler and Book face off, and Lawler punches Booker with a right. Booker scurries from the ring, and Lawler tosses some royal fruit at him. Sharmell holds her man back,
and Jerry stands in the ring.
Match #1 -- Beth Phoenix and Melina vs. Mickie James and Maria w/ Santino Marella
Santino joins JR and The King on commentary. Mickie hits a head scissors on Phoenix, as King talks to Marella about his relationship with Maria. Santino gets involved in the match, by tripping Melina and Phoenix. Maria hits a bulldog on Melina, and gets the pin.
Winner by pinfall: Mickie James and Maria
Santino and Maria embrace in the ring after the match.
Gerry Brisco tries to give Cody Rhodes some advice, before Randy Orton interrupts. Cody says Orton is afraid. Orton says Cody is the one who should be afraid, and he can back out if he wants.
Time for another Snitsky promo. He wants to be your monster heel on Monday Night RAW. I do not endorse Snitsky, as I am a supporter of Umaga for Monster Heel.
Todd Grisham tries to interview John Cena. The champ paints quite a fantasy for the Grish. Cena bursts that bubble quickly. Grish wants to know the champ's thoughts on a new number one contender. Cena delivers this message, "If you want some, come get some!"
Match #2 -- Sandman and Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Carlito and William Regal
I do like Regal's new Shakespearean Era robe he wears to the ring. He just needs to be holding a skull, and WWE could put on Hamlet.
Regal and Sandman start off. Sandman cheap
shots Carlito off the apron, as Coach watches from his office. Sandman is double teamed in the corner but then reverse a suplex on Regal. Hacksaw tags in, hitting Carlito with a back body drop, and then corner punches. Duggan sets up for a corner charge but Carlito side steps it. Carlito immediately hits the back cracker (or back stabber, as JR and King are calling it now) on Duggan, and covers for the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Carlito and William Regal
Carlito and Regal are discussing their win in the back, when Carlito bites into a bad apple. He spits it out ... all over Bobby Lashley. Carlito tries to explain, but then runs off. 'Lito runs to the ring, and tries to explain, calling it an accident, and tries
to apologize. Carlito tells Lashley not to do anything if he accepts it. Lashley walks to the ring, as Carlito blabbers on. Carlito tries to get the upper hand, and whips Lashley into the ring steps. Lashley leaps the steps, and chases Carlito back up the ramp. Lashley tosses Carlito into the ring, and hits a running powerslam.
Match #3 -- Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes
Orton starts off with a side headlock takeover. Cody counters out of it, and then nails a standing drop kick after Orton slapped him. Rhodes is smashed into the turnbuckle, and then whipped across the ring. Rhodes responds with a cross body. Rhodes leaps Orton in the corner, and get a near fall with a sunset flip out of the
corner. Orton hits a neckbreaker and stomps away at Cody. Orton then slaps Rhodes around. Cody fights back, but runs right into a drop kick. Orton whips Rhodes hard into the corner. Rhodes is shot off the ropes, and nearly catches Orton with a roll up. Orton responds with a clothesline. Orton and Rhodes exchange punches. Rhodes climbs the turnbuckle, but misses the high risk move. Orton stalks Cody, waiting to strike. Orton hits the RKO, and covers for the pin.
Winner via pinfall: Randy Orton
After the match, Orton looks for a knockout kick. Dusty hits the ring, taking down Orton. Dusty checks on his son, but doesn't see Orton come in from behind with a vicious kick to the
head. Dusty is out cold and the refs force Orton from the ring.
Match #4 -- Ken Kennedy vs. Jeff Hardy
Kennedy tries to christen himself the number one contender before the match. JR really puts Hardy over for his match with Umaga last night. Ken and Jeff lock up, and break in the corner. Kennedy with a armwringer on Jeff. Hardy reverses the hold, taking Kennedy to the mat. Kennedy whips Jeff into the ropes, but Hardy stops himself, and Ken crashes and burns on a drop kick. Kennedy recovers and puts the boots to Hardy. Jeff is able to put on a hammerlock. Kennedy is able to break free and toss Hardy to the outside. Kennedy follows, but Jeff slides
back in and then hits a plancha over the top rope.
After the break, Hardy kicks Kennedy in the corner. Hardy gets caught trying to go up and over, getting slammed to the mat. Coach is still watching. Kennedy hits a neckbreaker, getting near fall. Hardy is whipped into the corner, but slips on the ropes going for the whisper in the wind, and darn near breaks his neck. Kennedy can't get the cover. The second time is the charm though, as he connects with a whisper in the wind. A mule kick sends Kennedy to the corner, and Hardy drives both feet into the chest of Kennedy. Jeff fights his way off of Kennedy's shoulder, and hits a face buster. Hardy climbs the turnbuckle, but Kennedy slips out of the ring. Hardy follows and runs the rail and crashing into Kennedy with a clothesline. Hardy and Kennedy fight up the ramp, with Hardy tossing Kennedy into the
RAW set. Jeff sprints back to the ring, just beating the ten count. Kennedy is left out in cold.
Winner via countout: Jeff Hardy
We see Dusty Rhodes being carted off in an ambulance.
Apparently Triple H is coming back as the Bionic Man.
Match #5 -- London and Kendrick vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team
distracts the ref and London, so Benji can get in a cheap shot on Spanky. Kendrick slips under a cheap shot from Shelton, but can't avoid a second. Benjamin officially tags in, and punches away at Kendrick. Benjamin with a spin kick and London breaks the pin. Haas tags in, locking in a body scissors and then a side headlock. Kendrick with kick, and London gets the hot tag. London hits Haas with an inverted atomic drop and then a hurricanrana. Kendrick joins in and Shelton is knocked from the ring with a dual drop kick, and Haas is then hit with one. Kendrick goes for a plancha over the top rope, but misses completely. London is doubled teamed in the ring. Haas bridges a German suplex into a pin, and gets the three count.
Winner via pinfall: The World's Greatest Tag Team
King Booker and Queen Sharmell walk out on stage and address Jerry Lawler. Sharmell informs Lawler he will pay a hefty price for his actions. Booker says next week he will face him in the ring and end this reign of blasphemy.
Candice Michelle tells Coach she doesn't want to face Umaga. Coach tries to appeal to her competitive side, and doesn't seem to care about her concerns as he walks away.
Match #6 -- Umaga and Cade and Murdoch vs. John Cena and Candice Michelle -- Champions Match No Disqualification
Candice stays at the top of the ramp after her entrance music plays. John Cena comes out, hands her his belt, and takes off toward the ring. He fights off Cade and Murdoch, but cannot stave off Umaga's attack. The Samoan Bulldozer punches away at Cena. Cade tags in, working over the WWE champ in the corner. Cade picks up his partner, dropping him across Cena. Umaga tags back in, and has more fists for the champ. Murdoch hits a side Russian leg sweep. Cena recovers, and hits the throwback on Murdoch, and then slams Cade into the mat. Cena goes for a cross body on Umaga, but the Samoan Bulldozer catches him and plants him with a sidewalk slam. Cade and Murdoch stalk Candice on the apron, and she climbs into the ring. Candice trips trying to get away from Umaga, falling into the corner. Cade and Murdoch grab her arms as Umaga gets ready to deal some damage. Candice is saved by Jeff Hardy and a chair. Hardy tattoos Umaga
multiple times, beating him back up the ramp with a chair. Hardy tosses the chair into Umaga's skull, picks it up, and hits him some more. (HOLY POOP!!!! It's brutality that we haven't seen since the days of Mankind!) Back in the ring, Cena hits Murdoch with a back body drop. He then tosses Cade out of the ring with a stop at the ring post. Murdoch follows Cade into the ring post, but bounces back in the ring. Cena picks him up and drives him down with an F-U. Cena covers for the win.
Winner via pinfall: John Cena and Candice Michelle
After the match, Randy Orton RKO's Cena in the middle of the ring. Coach walks out and announces the new number one contender is ... Randy Orton (DUN DUN DUUUUNNNN!!!!!!!) Orton stands over Cena as the show ends.
Dale Plummer has been writing for SLAM! Wrestling since 2003. Dale wants the Burger King to be on the look out for Booker T. Dale isn't sure how far Booker is willing to take this thing.
