Impact: The last run to Victory Road
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
The main event for Victory Road has been determined, as Kurt Angle and Samoa Joe will join forces to go against Team 3D. However, on this edition of Impact, those four individuals will team together to take on Christian's Coalition and Robert Roode. Will the champions be able to work together, or will the thought of their Victory Road encounter cause them to fall apart? Read the report and find out.
Impact begins as "The Monster" Abyss makes his way into the Impact Zone for...
Match One - "The Monster" Abyss vs. Lance Hoyt w/ Christy Hemme
Hoyt jumped Abyss on his way in and went to work on him immediately. Abyss was able to fight back and put Hoyt on the defensive. Abyss grabbed a chair as Christy Hemme distracted the ref, allowing Hoyt to knock the chair loose from Abyss and use it to his advantage. After some more back and forth action, Abyss hit the Black Hole Slam and picked up the victory. Afterwards, Abyss went to break out his special bag, but Basham came to the rescue of Hoyt. VKM came out and cleaned house on Hoyt and Basham. Christy Hemme was left alone with Abyss, until AJ Styles and Tomko came out to beat down Abyss. Sting then came out and helped Abyss in ridding the ring of Styles and Tomko. Sting then handed Abyss the mic, as Abyss told Styles and Tomko that Victory Road would be their Doomsday. Pretty cool deal.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Monster" Abyss
The Impact intro came on, with Mike Tenay and Don West doing their usual hype job. A package was shown hyping the Main Event of the champions vs. Christian's Coalition. Back from a commercial break, and Jeremy Borash was in the back with Christian's Coalition. Tomko and AJ Styles wanted to know who their partner was for the main event. Robert Roode walked in with Ms. Brooks and said that he was the partner and it was his chance to shine. Cage walked out with Roode and Brooks as Tomko told Styles that Cage liked Roode better. Styles then stormed off after them.
Match Two - Winner Gets To Advance To The Ultimate X Match At Victory Road - Kaz vs. Havoc vs. Martyr
Havoc and Martyr teamed up to beat down Kaz, taking turns wearing him out. Kaz was able to counter towards the end and roll up Martyr for the win. After the match, Raven came out and joined Havoc and Martyr in beating down Kaz with a kendo stick. Looks like Kaz is officially out of Raven's clan.
Winner Via Pinfall - Kaz
They hype the Ultimate X match which will be a 10-man gauntlet match. Back from another commercial break with more hype for the main event of champions. Don West went to a bar and did a sit-down interview with James Storm who said that at Victory Road, the beer will be on Rhino. A package was then shown highlighting the TNA career of Chris Harris. Ron Killings then did a PSA on smoking. James Mitchell then did another promo hyping his new monster. Papparazzi Productions showcased their latest project, Old School vs. New School, with Bob Backlund and Jerry Lynn taking on Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley. Lynn ran down Sabin and Shelley as Backlund went on a tirade, leaving Sabin begging for Kevin Nash's help. Another package was shown for the Ultimate X match at Victory Road.
Match Three - Eight Man Tag Team Match - Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) vs. Christian Cage, AJ Styles, Tomko and Robert Roode w/ Ms. Brooks
Good main event, with both sides going all out. Joe and Team 3D worked decent together, while Kurt Angle showed that he had a different motive. The end came when the match broke down, with Joe destroying Styles, then catapaulting him into Cage who was on the top rope, causing him to fall to the floor. Joe then picked Styles up, as Angle tagged in, chop-blocked Joe's leg and made the pin on Styles. Angle then grabbed the belts and took off.
Winners Via Pinfall - Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon)
