Van Dam on the move again?
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
In his Rob Van Dam persona, Rob Szatkowski's talents have never fully been grasped by WWE powers-that-be. A big star in ECW, Van Dam briefly got a chance to be The Whole F'n Show/Mr. Monday Night.
But why did such a talented performer, obviously way over with the fans, find himself as a mid-carder with WWE, a company he likely won't be a part of much longer than tomorrow night's Stretcher Match against Randy Orton at the One Night Stand pay-per-view?
Injuries have hurt. And being nabbed with marijuana didn't put him in good stead with WWE, which suspended him for 30 days.
Szatkowski learned how to wrestle from The Sheik, whose early hardcore style involved the use of fireballs and various utensils.
"I got to see his soft side," Szatkowski told Sun Media a few years ago. "But he was still very intimidating. We'd wrestle in his backyard, then swim in his pool."
Van Dam also said: "I would like people to remember the things Rob Van Dam does, the things that nobody has done before."
It's looking more and more like some of those memories may come outside of
WWE, soon perhaps in TNA.
ONE NIGHT STAND: With Chris Benoit vs. MVP apparently off the show, WWE may have removed what could have been the most entertaining match of tomorrow night's One Night Stand pay-per-view. Here's the card: John Cena vs. Great Khali (falls count anywhere); Edge vs. Batista (cage match); Vince McMahon vs. Bobby Lashley (street fight); The Hardys vs. The World's Greatest Tag Team (ladder match); CM Punk, Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Elijah Burke, Matt Striker and Marcus Cor Von (tables match); Kane vs. Mark Henry (lumberjack match); Melina vs. Candice Michelle (pudding match). One parting shot: I love WWE's divas (especially Victoria ... and I miss Trish). They're very, very sexy, but a pudding match?
SAY IT AIN'T SO, CRO: The Wrestling Observer is reporting that former Montreal Expos star Warren Cromartie, who is now 53, will make his pro wrestling debut on June 17 at the Hustle Aid show at the Saitama Super Arena.
FOOTBRAWL: Former NFL all-pro tight end Frank Wycheck is getting into the "wrasslin" business, getting into an altercation with Tennessee Cowboy James Storm at a TNA press conference this week. The former Tennessee Titan drilled Storm with a guitar shot (with the guitar provided by Jeff Jarrett). All this after Storm spit beer in Wycheck's face.
