Goldust's peculiar style headed to Alberta
By KRISTI PATTON - Cochrane Times

Goldust

It's the understatement of the year to say the Goldust versus Ravenous Randy match later this month in Cochrane, Alberta, will be flamboyant.

"Flamboyant!" yelled Goldust after learning about his match up. "I am going to eat him for lunch. There are a bunch of wrestlers out there like him, but buddy, I've already been there. Trying to step into my shoes or fill my shoes you will get beaten pretty quick."

The pair will lock up at the May 25 Bad News Allen Wrestling Tribute Show at Spray Lakes Family Recreation Centre in Cochrane, Alberta.

Both Goldust and Ravenous Randy are known for their eccentric qualities; Goldust for his not so masculine ways and Ravenous Randy for his 'rock the hawk' hairdo and unpredictable behaviour which can have him shaking his hips or jumping up on the poles and singing.

For Dustin Rhodes breaking into his character of Goldust pushed all the envelopes in the early '90s in the World Wrestling Federation.

"People would get mad and throw stuff. Gay and lesbian rights activists would call and we would get complaints of people never letting their children watch again. Then the next week the ratings would be up," said Goldust of his character.

The more androgynous Goldust would act the more confused the wrestling fans would get as he would walk in with then wife and manager, Marlena (Terri Runnels).

"Goldust is one of those characters you don't forget in wrestling whether you loved me or hated me," he said.

Goldust claims this is one of his best years after inducting his father, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, to the WWE Hall of Fame.

"It was a special moment with the three of us all together. My brother Cody and my dad. It really touched me emotionally," said Goldust. "It was the greatest honour to put him in."

The wrestler remembers his family having a little fun with famous Canadian William Shatner who was there inducting Jerry "The King" Lawler.

The actor, best known for his Captain Kirk character on Star Trek, asked where to find his script. Goldust's dad took one look over at his son and began spouting off directions that took him on a wild goose chase.

"He just wanted to mess with him and after saying all these different places he had to go through William Shatner just turned and said 'Thank you, Mr. Dusty,'" said Goldust. "I fell on the floor laughing saying 'You just sent Captain Kirk to the end of the universe.'"

The former Intercontinental champion has been the character of Goldust for over 16 years and says while he is in Cochrane fans will have a chance to win some of his famous outfits.

"I have a bunch of stuff I don't wear anymore like the gold smoking jacket I wore when I won a Slammy award that was also on Wrestlemania. I am going to raffle some of it off in Cochrane," he said.

Being part of the WWF, WCW and WWE for such a long-time, he can't pin down a favourite match but fondly remembers his friendship and feuds with Booker T along with the fans.

"Fans out there I want to thank you so much for your support," he said in a heavy voice. "It is all very appreciated. Never forget the name of Goldust ... sssssss ... Never forget Goldust."
