Bad News tribute show draws big names
By KRISTI PATTON - Cochrane Times

With a number of big matches on the card the Bad News Allen Wrestling Tribute show to be held at Cochrane, Alberta's Spray Lake Family Recreation Centre on May 25 is bound to deliver.

Familiar names such as Goldust, Abdullah the Butcher, Tito Santana, Samoa Joe and Juggernaut are just a few on the list.

"We have a lot of big name wrestlers on this show. It is going to be huge," promised main event fighter Devon Nicholson of the tribute show.

'Bad News' Allen Coage died suddenly at the age of 63 in March after a successful wrestling career and winning Olympic bronze in Judo competing for the U.S.A. in 1976.

A fierce competitor in Stampede Wrestling 'Bad News' was known for his feuds with The Dynamite Kid, Bret "The Hitman" Hart and others.

In the 1980s Allen went under the name 'Bad News Brown' going head-to-head with the likes of Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper.

"This is giving a lot of people that knew him a chance to come and give their respects," said Nicholson.

Nicholson's opponent for the tribute show, Abdullah, was a good friend of Allen's and his tag team champion partner when they wrestled together in Japan.

"He was a hell of a friend, a good partner and a good man. May he rest in peace," Abdullah said.

Wrestling legend Gerry Morrow, also a good friend of Allen, will be a guest ref at the tribute show.

The May 25 show starts at 8 p.m. at Spray Lake Family Recreation Centre with doors opening at 7 p.m.

Tickets are available at www.ticketweb.ca or by charge by phone at 1-888-222-6808. Tickets can also be purchased at Spray Lake Family Recreation Centre or Bottoms Up Sports Pub.
