Impact: Tomko center of attention
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

Lockdown is drawing near, Team Cage and Team Angle and scratching and clawing to secure a list of stars to head into battle with. On this edition of Impact one team will win the services of Tomko as Abyss (Team Cage) does battle with the opposing team captain Kurt Angle. Which team will have Tomko on their side? Read the report and find out.

The show began with a recap of the last edition of Impact.

Papparazzi Productions debuted their latest piece, a meeting between James Mitchell and Sting. Mitchell told Sting that it was actually Abyss' mother who shot his father, Abyss only took the rap for it to protect his mom. Mitchell then went on to say that he would tell the police what really happened if Abyss didn't do what he said. He then had to leave because he had a meeting with Christian Cage. Okay this angle is going downward really fast.

Mike Tenay and Don West run down the card leading to...

Match One - Six Sides of Steel Xscape Match - Jerry Lynn vs. Alex Shelley vs. Petey Williams vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Shark Boy vs. The Austin Starr

This was pretty much an all out brawl. Elimination style rules until it gets down to the last two stars, with the winner being the one who escapes the Six Sides of Steel. Shark Boy was able to hit the DSD on Alex Shelley to eliminate him from the match. Shocker.

Elimination One Via Pinfall - Alex Shelley

Lynn blocked a huricanrana attempt by Dutt, powerbombing him into the cage and hitting the Cradle Shock Piledriver for the elimination.

Elimination Two Via Pinfall - Sonjay Dutt

DSD attempted, but reversed into a Starr Buster

Elimination Three Via Pinfall - Shark Boy

The Destroyer on Starr.

Elimination Four Via Pinfall - The Austin Starr

Lynn and Williams do some back and forth battle, with Lynn getting the upperhand, bouncing Williams off the top of the cage and dropping down for the win. Afterwards, Christopher Daniels attacked Jerry Lynn with a baseball bat until Petey Williams chased him away.

Winner Via Escaping The Cage - Jerry Lynn

Tomko was shown arriving with Letica in tow. Cage said he was happy to have him back. A phone call interrupted the two and Tomko walked away, telling Cage that they would catch up later. Love the teased tension between the two.

Back from the commercial break with Christian Cage and company making their way into the Impact Zone. Cage made the official introduction of the third member of Team Cage, Scott Steiner. Steiner said that he wanted a title shot. Cage played it off and announced the fourth member of Team Cage, Abyss. James Mitchell and Abyss came down and joined the group. Styles then said that they had a fifth member. Cage told him he ruined the surprise and that the fifth member was already in the ring, it was Tomko. Tomko then complained about not getting a title shot. Kurt Angle and company came out with Angle telling Tomko that he wasn't going to get a title shot and that if he wanted a piece of Cage he should join Team Angle. Jim Cornette said there would be a match later between a member from Team Cage and a member from Team Angle with the winner getting Tomko's services at Lockdown. Cornette told Tomko that if he agreed to the terms of that match and honored his committments, he would get the promised title shot. Tomko agreed and shook on it with Cornette. Great stuff, another King of the Mountain match for the title at Slammiversary is already shaping up.

Some Lockdown hype before we were sent to the back and Jeremy Borash who was standing by with Team Angle. Angle said that he suffered some setbacks as Sting and Abyss were supposed to be on his team, but he said that winning Tomko's services would be fine. As for his fifth member, he said that it would best be kept a secret.

Match Two - James Storm w/ Jackie Moore vs. Eric Young

Storm was pretty dominant thanks to his cheating ways. The end came when Moore distracted Young and shoved him off the top rope into a superkick giving Storm the win. Afterwards, Chris Harris and Gail Kim ran down as security swarmed. Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks came out and ran down Young. Young went to hit Roode, but Roode threatened to fire him. Petey Williams came out and went at it with Roode nearly hitting the Destroyer before Roode escaped.

Winner Via Pinfall - James Storm

In the back, Christian Cage is with his team saying that Tomko is nothing without him. He says that he needs a volunteer to face Team Angle's representative. He says that he is a main eventer and he can't risk it. Scott Steiner said that his body sells tickets so he is out. AJ Styles said that his hoodie sells tickets so he is out. James Mitchell said that he would take care of the dirty work because Abyss would do it. He then told Abyss that his mother was just a phone call away.

Back from the commercial break with Jim Cornette discussing the VKM and Lance Hoyt/Christy Hemme issue. Hemme joined them via satellite, saying that she has another team. Kip and her go at it with Kip telling her that she will get hurt if she doesn't stop. He tells her that she is the only thing stopping them from getting the NWA Tag Team Championships. What's the deal with Hoyt?

Match Three - Winner Gets Tomko at Lockdown - "The Monster" Abyss (Team Cage) vs. Kurt Angle (Team Angle)

Tomko made his way out with contracts for both teams. Great back and forth main event. Lots of near finishes. Angle had the Ankle Lock in on Abyss who rolled through, bumping the ref. Angle then got hit with the Black Hole Slam, but with no ref the count couldn't be made in time. Another ref came out, but it was too late. Angle reversed Abyss' attempts and rolled him up for the win. Afterwards, Tomko came in and raised Angle's hand ,only to whack him with the contract. Team Cage beat down Angle until the rest of Team Angle came down and cleaned house.

Winner Via Pinfall - Kurt Angle

The Impact Recap played to conclude this edition of Impact.

Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and thinks that Christian Cage is probably the biggest asset that TNA has.
