WWE shows clever undertakings
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

The light bulbs are going off for WWE's creative geniuses, who sometimes write as if they've fallen into Peewee's Playhouse.

Finally, storylines make sense, they have a purpose.

We don't have superstars sleeping with corpses. There are no grandmotherly divas giving birth to a hand. And Vince McMahon isn't creating his own religion.

Nope. Things just seem to make a lot of sense. And that's a good thing as we head down the stretch run to WrestleMania.

We can forgive WWE for the hair vs. hair match between Vinny Mac (with Umaga as his representative) and Donald Trump (with Bobby Lashley). It's what it is ... an attempt to gain cross-media publicity ... and ultimately make a whack of money when people cough up cash to see the event.

Look at the storylines that have been gaining steam.

The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels will try to win John Cena's WWE title ... and we've had plenty of teases that Michaels will do anything to win.

Batista has double crossed The Undertaker and hopes to stop The Deadman's Wrestlemania undefeated streak.

And there's a Money in the Bank match featuring Edge vs. CM Punk vs. King Booker vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Mr. Kennedy vs. Finlay vs. Matt Hardy vs ... could Randy Orton be the final contestant with a win over Ric Flair and Carlito Monday on RAW? Could this match end with Orton and Edge the last men standing? And could this lead to the much-anticipated Edge-Orton feud steaming into SummerSlam?

Storywriting that for too long a stretch was mundane all of a sudden has become interesting.

- Allen Coage (Bad News Allen in Stampede Wrestling) and Bad News Brown in the WWF) died at 63 from a heart attack Tuesday in Calgary. In the ring, he was one bad-ass dude (and I mean that in a good way). He was one of the best heels of his time, a guy who probably wasn't given the push he deserved in the WWF.

- TNA's Destination X pay-per-view tonight has an outstanding lineup: Christian Cage defends his TNA title vs. Samoa Joe; Sting faces Abyss in a Last Rites match; Scott Steiner faces Kurt Angle; AJ Styles meets Rhino in an intriguing Elevation X match; LAX vs. Team 3D; and Chris Sabin defends his X Division title vs. Jerry Lynn; Petey Williams and Gail Kim vs. James Storm and Jackie Moore (Double Bullrope match); Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. Christy Hemme's Surprise Team; and Austin Starr vs. Senshi (winner must use cross-face chicken wing).
