Smackdown: Mysterio feels Umaga's wrath
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

The home stretch to WrestleMania 23 is officially on, and each week becomes more and more important. This week, a Money in the Bank, the former World champ Rey Mysterio returns for an update on his injury, and the current champ, Batista, will explain his actions against The Undertaker at the pay-per-view. Ready, set, on to the report!

The world titleholder Batista comes out to a surprising thunderous ovation from the San Diego crowd. The Animal explains that he was simply getting even with The Undertaker by delivering a spinebuster at No Way Out for his previous attack. The World Champ says he respects Taker but is not intimidated ... and that's it, no interruptions.

Match 1: Matt Hardy, Brian Kendrick, Paul London w/ Ashley vs. Joey Mercury, Deuce, Domino w/ Cherry

Hardy is triple teamed initially, but is able to pound his way out of the corner. Soon the babyfaces clean house and toss Mercury over the top rope to the outside onto his teammates. Deuce and Domino keep this back and forth affair interesting, and the powers that be are actually giving this contest some time. London and Kendrick try to give Hardy some room by soaring to the floor with a pair of suicide dives. This allows Hardy to slap on the Twist of Fate on Mercury and pick up the victory.

WINNER: Matt Hardy, Kendrick, London

Match 2: Non-Title Scotty 2 Hottie vs. Chavo Guerrero

Scotty is finally getting a chance to showcase some of his quickness, and actually comes out to an early advantage. The momentum gradually shifts as Guerrero (now the six-time Cruiserweight Champion) hooks in a couple of arm and back submissions to ground the high flyer. Scotty goes for The Worm setup, is stopped; however, moments later he is able to connect with it and then hits a plancha from the apron to the ringside area. This all goes for naught as Chavo cheats with a foot on the middle rope for the 1-2-3.

WINNER: Chavo Guerrero

Match 3: Money in the Bank Qualifier- King Booker w/ Queen Sharmell vs. Kane

Unlike No Way Out, these two are actually showing some chemistry with some quick, crisp moves. Both men have the tide turn on them seemingly every minute for the first few minutes. Not much manoeuvre wise outside of punches and kicks. Since this is a no DQ rules bout Booker tries to nail Kane with the ring bell, however, The Big Red Machine ducks out and responds with hammering right hands up the entrance ramp. Kane continues to dominate by smashing the King's back into the steel post. Sensing trouble, Queen Sharmell distracts the big man, and this allows Booker to clock Kane with the ring bell. The King is caught in a chokeslam outside the ring, but The Great Khali hits Kane from behind! Khali lays out The Big Red Machine, and Booker takes this advantage to pin Kane. King Booker has now qualified for The Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania!

WINNER: King Booker

Match 4: No Way Out Rematch- Finlay & The Little Bastard vs. Boogeyman and Tiny Boogey

Boogeyman attempts to keep an early advantage through a bear hug. Rather unspectacular match, however, things spice up a bit when mini Boogey and the Little Bastard decide to get involved. The leprechaun delivers a huge flying DDT on mini Boogey, allowing Finlay to take out Boogeyman. Leprechaun notices this and scrambles onto the heavyweight for a pinfall.

WINNERS: Finlay and The Little Bastard

Rey Mysterio receives a fantastic applause as he comes to the ring to talk about his recovery from the knee injury. The former heavyweight champion is interrupted suddenly by Mr. McMahon, who struts down to the squared circle. Vince runs down Rey, and the crowd in general. The chairman discusses his hair vs. hair battle with Donald Trump at Mania, and we have Vince's representative, Umaga come down. Mysterio calls Vince a loser, and this is greeted by a Vince sucker shot and an Umaga Samoan Drop. Couple that with a running corner attack, and splash off the top rope and Rey is carted off on a stretcher. The show goes off the air with McMahon and Umaga glaring at Mysterio.
