Impact: Abyss' secret is out; Cage's is not
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
The new NWA Heavyweight Champion will be in action on this edition of Impact as Christian Cage goes up against "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels in a non-title encounter. In addition to that mega main event, Sting has announced that he will be revealing the secret Abyss has been hiding within. Will Impact deliver or fall short? Read the report and find out.
The show began with Mike Tenay and Don West running down what was on tap as "The Samoan Submission Machine" Samoa Joe made his way into the Impact Zone. Samoa Joe announced that he would be the special guest enforcer in the Heavyweight Championship match at Against All Odds. Kurt Angle came down and accused Joe of being Christian Cage's consultant, Joe denied the allegation. Christian Cage and Tomko came out and backed Joe up, with Cage saying that Joe wasn't good enough to consult him on anything. Cage also said he was a good liar and that Angle wouldn't be able to tell if he was lying or not. Cage promised another hint at his consultant as Joe and Angle wound up brawling once again. Security swarmed as Cage and Tomko watched. Tomko grabbed the mic and said that there were going to be some changes, starting with the announcing. Another brawl from these two, nothing special.
In the back, Jeremy Borash caught up with Father James Mitchell and "The Monster" Abyss. Abyss was freaking out while Mitchell told Sting that it would be in his best interest to not tell Abyss' secret. He told Sting that while the truth may set him free, it's not going to happen for Abyss.
In Jim Cornette's office, Jeremy Borash stood by as Serotonin came in. Cornette told them that they were going to start earning their paycheck as Raven would be facing off against "The War Machine" Rhino. Serotonin is already developing very well despite not getting as much exposure as they should be.
Rhino was shown coming out, and once he got in the ring, Johnny Devine, Frankie Kazarian and Matt Bentley attacked, or at least attempted to. Rhino cleaned house on them, goring Devine and Bentley before Raven came down and whacked him with a kendo stick. After taking off the masks and hoods, it was revealed that Raven was really AJ Styles. Styles laid into Rhino, busting him open before security made the save. This was very well done.
In the production truck, Christian Cage was shown directing traffic as Leticia watched. Cage told them that they had better make sure that everything was perfect or else he'd let it rain on them. Ha, ha. Cage is great.
A movie poster was shown hyping the Hollywood debut of Ron "The Truth" Killings.
Papparazzi Productions returned as Eric Young was shown with Jeremy Borash shopping for condoms. Borash told Young not to be embarassed. As soon as Borash said that, James Storm and Miss Tennessee came strolling in with their posse, making fun of Young and Borash, telling them to have fun together. This was pretty funny. They cut back to the Impact Zone and Leticia, who was in Robert Roode's office. Ms. Brooks said that she was going to secure Eric Young. Roode told her that she had till the next edition of Impact to do so, or she was fired. Roode stormed off as Brooks looked at Leticia and told her that she knew she wanted her. Interesting. Good thing Leticia's role has been reduced, she is awful.
Match One - Chris Sabin and Austin Starr vs. Jerry Lynn and Senshi
Glad that Jerry Lynn is back in action for TNA, he still has it and if used properly can really help propell the X Division even further. Lynn and Senshi had this one going in their favor until Starr and Sabin started cheating. Sabin went to hit the Cradle Shock on Lynn, but Lynn reversed, pinning Sabin for the win.
Winners Via Pinfall - Jerry Lynn and Senshi
In the back, Leticia spoke with VKM about what's been going on with Christy Hemme. Kip had tape over his mouth, while BG said that this thing had gotten completely out of control. Kip had enough and took the tape off his mouth and slapped it on BG's. He said that he meant everything he told Christy and that he was going to stand by it. BG had enough and stormed off. Oh please, let them wrestle!
A package was shown highlighting the feud between LAX and Team 3D. Konnan is in bad shape. Again I wish him the best of luck and speedy recovery. Great package, this should be an awesome feud.
Sting came out and said that he realized that by revealing Abyss' secret, he was going to in turn feel the wrath of Abyss, but said he was fine with that, because this was for Abyss' own good. Sting said that Abyss went to prison for shooting his father in the back three times and putting him into a coma. However, he survived and made a full recovery. Abyss was infuriated with Sting's revealing of his secret and came out intent on destroying Sting. The two fought all the way to the back where James Mitchell was waiting with a fireball. Mitchell threw the fireball in Sting's face as we went to a commercial break. Back from the break an ambulance was shown taking Sting away.
In the back Jeremy Borash stood by with Christian Cage and Tomko. Cage said that the ambulance would have to turn back and pick up Christopher Daniels after he was done beating him down. Christopher Daniels walked into the Impact Zone while they showed a clip of Daniels saying that he was going to start serving his own best interests.
Match Two - "Captain Charisma" Christian Cage vs. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
This was a back and forth encounter, with Daniels slapping Cage around quite a bit. Daniels even had the win at one point, but Tomko's attempted interference and Joe's rescue provided enough of a distraction for Cage to get up, low blow Daniels and hit the Unprettier to pick up the win. Afterwards, Joe chased Tomko and Cage to the back as Angle came down and faced off with Joe who had possession of the NWA Heavyweight Championship. The two yelled as Cage applauded Joe. Unique ending here, with Cage hinting that Samoa Joe really is his consultant.
Winner Via Pinfall - "Captain Charisma" Christian Cage
The Impact recap played as Impact came to an end.
Chris Sokol is fom Long Island, NY and was curious as to why he was deprieved of AJ Pierzynski on Impact. His feud with Lance Hoyt has been enthralling to say the least.
