Impact: Angle has a Phenomenal match
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling

Kurt Angle's fast track to the NWA Heavyweight Championship starts on Impact as he is set to go one-on-one against "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles. Team 3D also seeks to get a measure of revenge on their arch rivals LAX, as they get a Final Resolution rematch. All this and so much more on another fun filled edition of Impact!

Outside the Impact Zone, Sting -- or Steve Borden in this case -- was throwing Father James Mitchell around. He picked him up and threw him into the side of the Impact Zone, through a pile of boards and choked him out with extension cords before throwing him into the trunk of his car.

A bunch of clips were shown from Final Resolution. Again, overall it was a great PPV. No real complaints other than Christy Hemme's segment.

Mike Tenay and Don West did their rundown before tossing it to Jeremy Borash who was in the back with Team 3D. 3D had Brother Runt with them. Runt said that what happened at Final Resolution was no big deal. 3D begged to differ, tossing Runt to the side and telling him not to move. Scratch that comment from before, other then Hemme's segment, a drunken headbutt DQ finish to the NWA Tag Team Championship match could be a valid complaint.

Match One - NWA Tag Team Championship Match - LAX ("The Notorious 187" Homicide and Hernandez) (C) vs. Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon)

Team 3D showed some dominance early on, jumping LAX from the get-go and not letting up at all. LAX got in a few shots, but nothing major and nothing to truly slow the freight train known as Team 3D. Brother Ray got a hot tag that allowed Team 3D to regain their control of the match and set up for the Wassup Headbutt, however Moody Jack Melendez took over for Konnan, providing a distraction and tossing Hernandez a slapjack that was used to knock out Brother Ray and give 3D the win.

Winners Via Pinfall and STILL NWA Tag Team Champions - LAX ("The Notorious 187" Homicide and Hernandez)

In the back, Jeremy Borash found Abyss tossing stuff all over the place. This Abyss angle isn't bad.

Gail Kim and Jacqueline or Miss Tennessee as she is being called once again, got into a little restroom fight that saw security swarming to break things up.

Mike Tenay and Don West alluded to Christy Hemme's firey speech at the PPV and cut to a sit down interview Jeremy Borash conducted with Hemme. Kip James interrupted the ordeal and spilled food on Hemme who slapped him again as BG James barged in to play peacemaker. Will VKM split up over Christy Hemme? Let's hope not.

"Captain Charisma" Christian Cage came out with the NWA Heavyweight Championship. Cage began talking but was interrupted by Kurt Angle. Angle came out and told Cage that he had better shine the NWA Heavyweight Championship up real nice because it was coming home with Kurt Angle. Angle then proceeded to spit in Cage's face. Cage said that he wasn't going to act on emotion. He said he found a consultant that wrestles like Angle and can't stand him, but he won't say who it is. Angle guessed at Goldberg or Brock Lesnar, guess he doesn't think much of himself with that Goldberg guess, but neither was the one. The bickering led to Angle hitting Cage with an overhead belly to belly suplex. Angle tried to get the Ankle Lock on, but Cage bailed. This should be a great match with Angle picking up the NWA Heavyweight Championship.

In a undisclosed area, Borden has Mitchell and he throws him into a fence. Borden continues to beat Mitchell as we go to a commercial break.

A Christian Cage video package was shown.

Back to the ongoing Borden/Mitchell situation. Borden had Mitchell by the jail where Abyss was imprisoned. Borden questioned Mitchell about Abyss. Mitchell said that Abyss' real name was Chris Marks, but Mitchell was confused as to why Borden cared about Abyss. Mitchell called Abyss a piece of garbage that he used. Borden choked Mitchell out and said that he was going to the Impact Zone to get some answers from Abyss.

The PCS segments continued with Kevin Nash telling the PCS competitors that they needed to go their separate ways. During this Austin Starr barged in and attacked Senshi with the other PCS competitors separating them. Nash watched as the mele ensued.

The Gail Kim vs. Miss Tennessee feud is being dubbed the "estrogen war" apparently. Ha ha.

Kurt Angle was in Jim Cornette's office. He told Angle that Cage was playing mind games with him and told Angle not to buy into them. He told Angle to concentrate on his main event match with "The Pheonomenal" AJ Styles.

Match Two - Lance Hoyt vs. "Cowboy" James Storm w/ Miss Tennessee

Dale Torborg and AJ Pierzynski were at ringside for this one. Hoyt had the match going in his favor until Miss Tennessee came up and distracted him, allowing Storm to regain the momentum. Hoy fought back, but Torborg got involved, distracting Hoyt while Pierzynski hit him in the back with a chair. Storm then hit the superkick and got the win. Afterwards, Pierzynski, Torborg and Hoyt brawled, while Miss Tennessee, Gail Kim and James Storm went at it on the other side. Storm was going to hit Kim when Petey Williams came in to make the save, only to get superkicked himself.

Winner Via Pinfall - "Cowboy" James Storm

In the back, Jeremy Borash was outside AJ Styles' locker room when Eric Young came up and said that his friend was off the pill and he had to go shopping for condos. Borash told him that he meant condoms, Young said he'd get whatever worked. AJ Styles came out and told Young to take a hike. Styles said that Angle brags a lot about his medal. Styles said he won a blue ribbon for the triple jump but he doesn't brag. He went on to say that no matter what the outcome, he was still "Phenomenal."

Leticia was shown following Steve Borden back into the Impact Zone.

Match Three - "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle

This was a great main event. Styles and Angle were meant for each other. Lots of great technical wrestling here, mixed in with some speed, quickness and counter for counter attacks. Tomko hung around on the outside, watching along. Styles had Angle down, but Angle fired back with some shots. Styles grabbed a steel chair and went to bring it into play, but it was countered by Angle who hit the Olympic Slam on Styles for the win. Afterwards, Cage and Tomko hit the ring and attacked Angle, only for Samoa Joe to come out and make the save. Joe and Angle argued as security broke things up.

Winner Via Pinfall - Kurt Angle

The Adrenaline Rush music video played to recap the show. Back in the Impact Zone, Steve Borden came out demanding that Abyss answer his questions. Abyss came out, but when Borden told him to talk, all Abyss did was cower in fear. Borden poked Abyss with a bat before giving up. He told Abyss that his secret was public record and he was going to find out about it for himself. Borden left as Abyss screamed and Impact came to an end.
