Countdown to TNA Final Resolution

And so, a new year begins in the PPV universe for TNA.
Yes, Final Resolution is upon us, signifying the beginning of the 2007 big
event year for the no-longer fledgling organization. This could very well be
TNA's make-or-break year, so let's see how well they do out of the gate.

MAIN EVENT: NWA HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Abyss vs. Sting vs. Christian Cage |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Hopefully the match won't get too bogged down in the Dr. Phil-esque storyline
they've been building for the past few weeks. I think it will, though, and as
Sting and Mitchell fight for Abyss' loyalty, look for Christian to sneak a win
and capture the gold.
Matt Mackinder
I enjoyed Christian as champ last spring, but Abyss as champion is intriguing.
In my eyes, Sting is the wild card here, but wont win the title. My guess
is Abyss retains just barely.
Jon Waldman
Why must every monster be humanized? I know Abyss has been carrying his gimmick
for a few years now, but I don't see the enraged monster as having run its course.
Nevertheless, Sting and Abyss share a Hallmark moment, allowing Christian to
get the W.

GRUDGE MATCH (30 minute Iron Man)
Samoa vs. Kurt Angle |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Wow, have they rushed this feud. Honestly, they so could have waited 6 months
to a year for this match - even better, having it for the championship. Even
still, it should be excellent. I would like to see a draw - with, just to be
different, no overtime, so that the big unanswered question remains unanswered.
Matt Mackinder
This feud is awesome. This match could go either way. A WrestleMania 12 flashback
seems like it could happen with Angle getting the OT win. But in any event,
I think the Olympian gets the duke.
Jon Waldman
Here's the big problem with this feud. The battle seemingly ends here; but what
do you do with them after? It's not like Joe has many opponents left to slaughter
and Angle has been established so high that you need to put him in the championship
slot. If you threw in the Number One Contender stip here, it would solve that
problem. Alas, TNA lacks the foresight that has plagued WWE for the last few
years, ever since a certain booker was there. Joe needs the win more, so I'm
going to take him.

X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH
Christopher Daniels vs. Jerry Lynn vs. Chris Sabin |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Eeeeeek! That's me shrieking like a schoolgirl to see Jerry Lynn back on PPV.
This should be an early MoTY candidate. Daniels wins.
Matt Mackinder
Jerry Lynn's clearing out the cobwebs I see. Sabin plays a great heel and will
probably go at it extensively with Lynn during the match. Eventually, Sabin will
get his title back.
Jon Waldman
What happened to TNA pushing all the young up-and-comers? Lynn is well over 40
and does not belong here. It's not like they need to re-establish the belt. Putting
someone like Austin Starr in would've done a lot more to give the belt more intrigue.
The obvious set-up here though is Lynn turning on Daniels, giving Sabin the belt.
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
LAX vs. Team 3D(NWA Tag Team Title Match) - There's room here for a lengthy
feud, and that works best with a chase storyline. So look for LAX to retain
somehow (maybe a Runt turn on his brothers?).
AJ Styles vs. Rhino (Last Man Standing) - AJ cheats to win, cementing
his status as no-good dirty heel.
Matt Mackinder
LAX vs. Team 3D(NWA Tag Team Title Match) - The Latinos keep their titles,
but 3D puts up a great fight.
AJ Styles vs. Rhino (Last Man Standing) - Rhino needs to win to keep
the feud going. He does so here.
Jon Waldman
LAX vs. Team 3D(NWA Tag Team Title Match) - Too soon for the title flip.
LAX wins.
AJ Styles vs. Rhino (Last Man Standing) - Styles needs the W more than
Rhino does. Take AJ here.
