Impact: Cage caged as Tomko fights
By CHRIS SOKOL - SLAM! Wrestling
The last Impact before Final Resolution and what a ride it has been. Finally Kurt Angle will be able to get his hands on Samoa Joe once again. But right here on Impact, Angle will have to settle for Matt Bentley. Also on tap, Tomko gets his first taste of TNA action as he steps into the ring against Abyss. Can Impact get any better? Read the report and find out.
Clips of the Abyss/James Mitchell saga were shown, with Mitchell doing great promo work as usual. Clips were also shown of the awesome Samoa Joe/Kurt Angle brawl from the last edition of Impact.
Kurt Angle stormed into Jim Cornette's office, with Cornette asking Angle what he could possibly want. Cornette said that he has given Angle everything he wanted and that it was time he got something in return. Angle asked what was in it for him and Cornette reminded him that he has a say when it comes to who gets a title shot. Angle told Cornette that it better be worth his while. Cornette replied that it would be well worth his own while.
Match One - Kurt Angle vs. Matt Bentley w/ Frankie Kazarian and Johnny Devine
Angle just destroyed the whole trio. Suplexes galore and an Angle Slam for the victory.
Winner Via Pinfall - Kurt Angle
In the back, Team 3D was decked out in camouflage as they declared war on LAX. This should be awesome.
Back from commercial break, they showed Raven caning Matt Bentley for his loss as Mike Tenay and Don West talked about a cage at ringside that had a reserved sign on it. Interesting.
Jeremy Borash caught up with Samoa Joe who said that he didn't get involved in Angle's match because he was instructed not to. He told Angle that the show was still young and that he better watch his back because he was after him. This feud is another instant classic in TNA history.
James Storm, Gail Kim, Chris Sabin and AJ Styles came out for...
Match Two - Six Man Tag Team Match - James Storm, Chris Sabin and "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles w/ Gail Kim vs. Petey Williams, "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels and "The War Machine" Rhino
This was a good match that got a little one-on-one between Styles and Daniels. Styles again faked a knee injury. Earl Hebner went to check on him. Daniels was thrown off by the attempt and rolled up, giving Team Styles the win.
Winners Via Pinfall - James Storm, Chris Sabin and "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles
In the back, James Mitchell was with Jeremy Borash. Mitchell said that he was without his monster. He told Abyss that he better make the right decision or he was going to tell his secret.
The PCS continued with a game of poker. This was to determine the winner of the whole series. By the end of the game, Alex Shelley and Austin Starr ended up tying at 20 points each. Kevin Nash announced that the two would have a ten minute time limit match at Final Resolution. He said that if it went to a draw, a winner would be determined by a panel of judges. Nash said that he was going to choose the panel of judges. More good stuff.
Borash did a sit down interview with a patched up Chris Harris. Harris talked about how he was severely injured by the glass bottle shot and how he might never return to the ring. He said that he never expected and never wanted AMW to end the way that it did.
Back at ringside, LAX and Team 3D were going at it. Team 3D challenged LAX to a tag title match at Final Resolution that was accepted. This was a good little brawl that helped reinforce what's going on in their feud. In the back, Borash was talking about what happened when he was interrupted by Eric Young. Young showed him some pills and said that he was starting to feel tender in his breasts. Team 3D came in and said that they weren't going to stop until they defeated LAX. Funny and serious segments tied into one here.
VKM showed their footage from the Alamo. They looked high and low for HBK, but he didn't show up. VKM then said that they were declaring victory and they would be back for the PPV. Please, please, please, let them wrestle.
Tomko and Christian Cage came out and were confronted by Jim Cornette. Cornette informed Cage that since Tomko couldn't interfere in his match at the PPV, he couldn't interfere in Tomko's match on Impact. Cornette said that the cage was for him. Cage told Cornette that he couldn't force him in there. Cornette showed some back up, as Kurt Angle came out and forced Cage into the cage. Abyss came out and was jumped on the entrance ramp thus starting...
Match Three - Tomko w/ Christian Cage vs. "The Monster" Abyss
This started off as a brawl and things got even worse. Tomko got in some offense on Abyss, but Abyss fired back with a clothesline and a big boot. Samoa Joe came out and attacked Kurt Angle from behind. The keys to the cage wound up on the floor, allowing Cage to unlock himself and break up Abyss' pinfall attempt, thus causing the DQ finish.
Winner Via DQ - "The Monster" Abyss
Post Match - The lights went off and came back on with Sting cleaning house on Cage and Tomko. Abyss and Sting celebrated until Abyss put Sting in the Torture Rack. Abyss looked at Mitchell who had the title and dropped Sting with the Shock Treatment, Abyss and Mitchell celebrated in the ring as we went to the Impact Recap and ended yet another decent edition of Impact.
