It's all scary fun for Kane
Acting career, move to Smackdown! paying off for former college football star
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

It could have been so different for Kane.

Rather than being the tormented child who was locked up in a Death Valley mental asylum by Paul Bearer, rather than being the psychologically unstable wrecking machine who heard voices in his head ... rather than being the maniacal murderer in See No Evil ... well as Glen Thomas Jacobs, he could have been terrorizing National Football League opponents.

Turns out Jacobs, who has gained plenty of notoriety as Kane, was a pretty good college basketball player, then turned into a monster of a football player.

"I'd never played football in high school," said the affable Jacobs over the phone earlier this week. "I put on a lot of muscle and got bigger and ended up playing football (in college). But I blew my knee out.

"I went to the Chicago Bears camp, but I was damaged goods ... once something like that happens, you're done.

"It turned out well for me. It got me to look at other fields and opened the door to wrestling. It probably turned out much better."

Hard to argue that. Kane was a superstar with mystique when he wore the red mask ... and he's still a megastar without the mask, playing the lead in the recent See No Evil, which has just been released on DVD and was a box-office success -- but not liked by critics.

"One thing to remember about movie critics is because it's a WWE film, they're going to judge it by that," said Jacobs. "We're interlopers into their world. I thought they'd look at it cynically. But I was more concerned with how it would be received by WWE fans and fans of horror films."

A move to Smackdown! has been a positive thing, says Jacobs, whose pre-Kane wrestling characters included Angus King, Unabomb, Isacc Yankem DDS and a fake Diesel.

"It's a different feel because it's taped and RAW is live. But it's a good move for me and a good move for the company."
