Ho-ho-horrific violence expected at ECW PPV
TJ MADIGAN - Calgary Sun
The promo poster for tomorrow night's ECW pay-per-view features a festive winter scene -- a snow covered suburban rooftop, with icicles glistening in the moonlight.
But that's where the Christmas imagery ends.
A closer look shows Christmas lights are wrapped in barb wire, there's a trail of blood through the snow and ECW's Sandman is climbing down the chimney with a Singapore cane in his tattooed hand.
His warning to kids, both naughty and nice: "You better watch out."
Not exactly a family friendly visual but what else would you expect from a show called December to Dismember, the first pay-per-view from the ECW franchise since WWE resurrected the brand full-time.
Buried in the midst of an over-saturated four-week run of wrestling PPVs, December to Dismember has been given the red-headed stepchild treatment at WWE headquarters.
As of press time, only two matches were announced for the show, making it one of the poorest marketing jobs in the company's history.
Luckily, the two matches are special enough grappling fans will gladly pay to see them and the show likely will do average-to-good numbers, even without a full card announced.
Tomorrow night's main event is an Extreme Elimination chamber match -- the ring will be enclosed in a massive steel cage, with wrestlers locked in glass tanks before being released into the action at opportune times.
Since this is ultra-violent ECW, weapons (such as a crowbar and a barbwire baseball bat) will not only be legal in the match, they will actually be provided by management.
Rob Van Dam, CM Punk, Sabu, Test, Bobby Lashley and Big Show will all be competing in the chamber, with Show's ECW title on the line.
Since Show is working injured, he's expected to drop the belt, allowing him time off to heal.
Also, the reunited Hardy Boyz will tackle the reunited MNM in what could be a show-stealing tag-team tilt.
December to Dismember goes out live at 6 p.m. MT.
