Survivor Series needs changes to survive
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun
Golf has its majors and I suppose wrestling does too. You'd have to count Survivor Series among the Big Four -- along with Wrestlemania, Royal Rumble and Summer Slam -- but I'm wondering whether the idea has gotten a little stale. Maybe what it needs is something new ... or something borrowed. What about lifting something from WCW ... what about a Lethal Lottery format ... names are pulled out of a hat to form teams. So "heels" are sometimes teamed with "good guys." Imagine Edge being teamed with Triple H ... Umaga teaming with Ric Flair ... or Batista teaming with King Booker. With some kind of reward for winning a match, you might even see foes co-operate as tag-team partners. Or you might see them destory each other. It would differentiate Survivor Series from other pay-per-views and actually give it some life.
- Lita will retire from WWE following her match against Mickie James at tonight's Survivor Series. Matches at the pay-per-view: D-Generation X (Triple H, Shawn Michaels, CM Punk, Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy vs. Edge, Randy Orton, Mike Knox, Johnny Nitro and Gregory Helms; John Cena, Rob Van Dam, Sabu, Kane and Bobby Lashley vs. Big Show, Test, Umaga, Finlay and MVP; Ric Flair, Ron Simmons (damn!), Dusty Rhodes and Sgt. Slaughter (with Arn Anderson) vs. The Spirit Squad (with Mitch); Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero; King Booker vs. Batista; and The Undertaker vs. Mr. Kennedy (First Blood Match). - There's a new TNA champion. Abyss beat Sting to win the NWA heavyweight title at last Sunday's Genesis pay-per-view. Other results: Voodoo Kin Mafia beat Maverick Matt, Frankie Kazarian and Johnny Devine; The Naturals beat Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal; Christopher Daniels beat Chris Sabin; Christian Cage beat AJ Styles; LAX beat America's Most Wanted; and Kurt Angle beat Samoa Joe. - Mecca Pro Wrestling presents Holiday Holocaust Dec. 9 at Cornwall's Murphy's Inn Pub and Grill (917 2nd St. W). The card: Soulrage vs. a mystery opponent chosen by The Vachon Brothers; Showtime Shawn Macmillan and Max Alexander vs. Zack Storm and Chaz Lovely; Shooter Anthony Storm vs. Mike Maniacal (loser leaves town); and J. Rennalls vs. Ryan Rush. Also look for Quinson Valentino, Reggie Marley, Sak, Hybrid Rain and others.
