Countdown to WWE Survivor Series
By SLAM! Wrestling Staff

Just hours from now, WWE will present the Survivor Series.

One of the more original concepts WWE has had in its tenure, the Series is a perfect way to bring many feuds together and spin-off into new battles. That could very well be the case again tonight, especially with the mixture of the three brands. Could inter-promotional wars be afoot soon? Only one way to find out. Check out the Survivor Series tonight on PPV. Let's look now at the matches slated to take place tonight.

SURVIVOR SERIES 5-ON-5 MATCH

DX/Hardy Boyz/CM Punk vs. Rated RKO/Gregory Helms/Johnny Nitro/Mike Knox

SLAM! Predictions

Matt Mackinder

DX shouldn’t still be around, but they are and depending on how you feel about them, that’s either a good or bad thing. I see Team DX winning, but Punk surviving as a consolation prize for not winning the Extreme Elimination Chamber next Sunday.

Jon Waldman

Just when you thought WWE was doing everything wrong, they made the exact right move by putting CM Punk in this lofty position. It'll also give Mike Knox some exposure as well. The only problem I have is that there hasn't been the team spot, with all five on each side appearing at the same time, so in essence it looks like three or four mini matches combined into one. Of course, the intrigue for me here is Lita being in the Rated RKO corner while the Hardyz are in the same match, so expect something there on her final night. In any case, Team DX wins, with CM Punk making Randy Orton tap.

SURVIVOR SERIES 5-ON-5 MATCH

John Cena/RVD/Sabu/Lashley/Kane vs. Big Show/Test/Umaga/MVP/Finlay

SLAM! Predictions

Matt Mackinder

The Big Show’s team looks weak on paper, so we’ll see. Cena’s team is stacked. Which can only mean Show’s team wins and Lashley gets eliminated. No matter – Lashley will take the ECW belt next Sunday. Show and Finlay survive.

Jon Waldman

The smartman's thinking here is that either Lashley, Sabu and RVD or Test and Show get into a side battle to build heat for the Elminiation Chamber. Perhaps a bunch of them get disqualified. That would leave Cena and Kane vs. MVP, Umaga and Finlay. The obvious build then is for Cena to be three-on-one to build him up, then do have Umaga get the W, building to a Royal Rumble encounter between the two.

  SURVIVOR SERIES 4-ON-4 MATCH

Ric Flair/Dusty Rhodes/Ron Simmons/Sgt. Slaughter vs. Johnny/Kenny/Nicky/Mikey

SLAM! Predictions

Matt Mackinder

Being a 1980s mark, I’m giddy for this one. Either Kenny eliminates everyone himself, or Spirit Squad tension cause the Legends to take the upset win. I’ll go with the old guys winning and Flair and Dusty surviving.

Jon Waldman

Well, i think there's still some mileage in the Spirit Squad breakup. The obvious time to do it would be for Kenny to eliminate his bretheren in the Rumble and hey, how about him winning and sneaking over to ECW or Smackdown for his title slot to evade his angry team members? That's a few months down the road, but for now, let's look at something else - Flair is needing a feud. In my opinion, the Rhodes match on Monday was purely to see how he can do in the ring at his age. He didn't look any worse than he ever has. So what is done here? It gets down two the Squad vs. Flair and Rhodes. Flair, the dirtiest player in the game, screws Dusty and walks out on his partner, setting up a match between the two at WrestleMania. Entire Spirit Squad team survives. Oh yes, and notice how, once again, Mitch is not wrestling.

  WORLD MATCH

Batista vs. King Booker

SLAM! Predictions

Matt Mackinder

King Booka’s reign ends here, I must say. Batista finally gets back the title he never lost. The match itself will be average, but the ending will have the fans out of their seats.

Jon Waldman

No question here - Batista wins, with a rematch at the Royal Rumble.

UNDERCARD

SLAM! Predictions

Matt Mackinder

Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero (US Title) - Benoit, a B-show mid-carder, should be better than this. In any event, he retains over Chavito.
Mr. Kennedy vs. Undertaker (First Blood) -
Should be a solid match that sees 'Taker bust open Kennedy...Kennedy.
Lita vs. Mickie James (Women's Title) -
Mickie has been snake bitten in recent weeks, so she takes the gold here from Lita.

Jon Waldman

Chris Benoit vs. Chavo Guerrero (US Title) - Chavo wins in what should be an easy 7/10 match
Mr. Kennedy vs. Undertaker (First Blood) -
Mr. Kennedy takes it...please?
Lita vs. Mickie James (Women's Title) -
Lita's swan song is a loss to Mickie.
