Smackdown: Batista crowns the King
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

We're in Manchester, England with a giant main event: King Booker and Batista will have the chance to get their hands on one another before Survivor Series ... but in a tag team match. A street fight involving Kane and the cocky MVP will surely be a blood bath in The Big Red Machine's favour -- or so it would seem. Toss in another encounter between Chris Benoit and former friend Chavo Guerrero and we serve up another episode of Smackdown.

Match 1: Boogeyman vs. The Miz & Krystal

Krystal cowers in the corner as Miz gets the early jump on the Boogeyman. As Mr. Worm double chokes Miz, Krystal comes to her partner's aid by jumping on his back. This allows The Miz to comeback with an attack, however, Boogey pulls worms out of his pants and puts them on Krystal. Miz attempts to come back in but decides against it and lets Krystal get worms all over her again.

WINNER: No Contest

Queen Sharmell and King Booker are confronted in their locker room by his former knight Finlay. Booker tells him to focus on Lashley and he will take care of the number one contender for his title, Batista.

A recap of Rey Mysterio's injury and his surgery are shown.

Match 2: Chris Benoit vs. Tatanka (Non-title)

Chris Benoit will be defending his United States championship against Chavo Guerrero at Survivor Series. Benoit chops Tatanka's chest raw in the first minute of the match before the Native American works in a reverse chin lock. The Rabid Wolverine delivers a German suplex, but the cagey Tatanka is able to whip Benoit into the outside steps, deliver a back breaker, and then pounded away on the skull of the champion. The Native warrior is on fire here as he is able to power out of a Sharpshooter attempt and slap on a Boston crab. The Crippler recovers, hits three German suplexes and is finally able to lock in the Sharpshooter for a submission. I have to give Tatanka credit as he did not look out of place in the ring against Benoit. Out of nowhere Chavo Guerrero jumps Benoit from behind and assaults his Survivor Series adversary. Chavo finishes off the segment by smacking a steel chair off of The Crippler's left leg.

WINNER: Chris Benoit

GM Teddy Long is walking backstage, finds Kane and reiterates that his match against MVP tonight is a no rules street fight.

Kennedy is in a vignette putting himself over as a major star and how he is going to destroy The Undertaker in their First Blood Match at Survivor Series.

Match 3: Paul London w/ Ashley vs. William Regal

The cheering is about 50/50 for countryman Regal. One half of the tag team champions ties up Regal but the Englishman is able to overpower his quicker opponent. Regal is working a stiff style with some hard knees, kicks, and suplexes. The crowd is solidly behind Regal now, as he scores a near fall with an amazing single leg suplex. London is finally able to mount some offence with a mule kick and dropsault. London is knocked hard to the outside on Ashley, knocking her out and prompting his partner Brian Kendrick to rush out of the back to her aide. With London distracted Regal is able to drive a hard knee into the cruiserweight for the pinfall. After the bell Ashley goes to London's side and the camera catches a disgruntled Brian Kendrick. Kendrick shakes it off and goes to assist his partner as well. This looks like a Mega Powers explosion in the making.

WINNER: William Regal

Highlights are shown of Bobby Lashley invading ECW to be the sixth man in the Extreme Elimination Chamber. Teddy Long congratulates Lashley and wishes him luck in his ECW future. The last thing Smackdown needs is to lose another star.

Match 4 - Street Fight: Kane vs. MVP

MVP goes for a chair shot, which Kane kicks away with tremendous force. The Big Red Machine busts open the newly-signed superstar and stuffs him in a phone booth, which he then tips over! MVP is able to bounce back momentarily with a DDT onto a steel chair but as the show goes into commercial, Kane has already regained control. Returning from the break finds MVP nailing numerous kicks in the corner and then attempts to chop away on the big man's leg. After temporarily knocking out Kane with the ring bell, the Big Red Machine sits up and starts pounding away on the jump suit wearing MVP. Kane is about to finish off his opponent with the steel steps when Ken Kennedy runs to interfere. Kane grabs Kennedy but is then low blowed. A double team steel steps shot later and MVP pulls out an upset pin over Kane. Moments later The Undertaker stalks towards the ring and causes Kennedy and MVP to scamper out. Mr. Kennedy then tosses MVP back inside where he is decimated with a double chokeslam by 'Taker and the now recovered Kane.

WINNER: MVP

Match 5: Matt Hardy vs. Gregory Helms (Non-title)

It is announced again that Matt Hardy will reunite with brother Jeff for the first time in years at the Survivor Series. Hardy will be apart of Team DX, while Helms will be on Team Rated RKO. The longest reigning champion currently in the WWE blindsides Hardy with a top rope attack. With Helms never putting his title on the line this feud had gone flat a long time ago. Hardy comes out of nowhere with a desperation clothesline to turn the tide in this bout. The cruiserweight champion misses with the Shining Wizard and is met with a Side Effect, which is immediately followed by a Twist of Fate. Hardy covers Helms and gets the three count.

WINNER: Matt Hardy

GM Teddy Long finds out from the doctor that the writhing MVP will be fine for next week. With that in mind Long makes a match between MVP and Kane in a steel cage match.

King Booker and his Queen are walking through the back when he is confronted by Batista. Booker runs down The Animal to which Batista simply responds by saying he is going to beat the King up tonight and then take back the World Heavyweight championship at Survivor Series.

Match 6: King Booker w/ Queen Sharmell & Finlay vs. Batista & Lashley

Recent rivals Batista and Finlay lock up to begin the main event. Soon The Animal takes control with a sling shot and then shoulders in the corner. The ECW bound Lashley and Batista double stall suplex Finlay in an impressive display of strength. Following the commercials Finlay regains control with a cheap shot and turns over the beat down to King Booker. Finlay's "Little Bastard" squirms out from under the ring and is thrown on top of the fallen Lashley outside on the ring floor. The powerful Lashley has been grounded for quite sometime by the quick tags of the heels, which is keeping both men fresh. Lashley finally connects with a spear out of desperation and makes the hot tag to The Animal. Batista clears house and is about to hit the thumbs down Batista Bomb when Finlay makes a clothesline save. As the referee is distracted Queen Sharmell clocks Batista with the sceptor, but the former champion kicks out! Batista then counters Booker's Scissors Kick with a spine buster and picks up the 1-2-3. A fast and exciting finish to this one.

WINNERS: Batista & Lashley
