Countdown to Cyber Sunday
By
SLAM! Wrestling Staff
|

|
Once again, WWE fans are going to the virtual voter's box to select their favourite matches, referees and wrestlers.
Yes, Cyber Sunday is upon us. This year, WWE has made the possibilities both interesting and hard to predict. There are numerous ways the night could unfold, so let's see what the SLAM! crew has to say going into tonight's action.

MAIN EVENT: CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS MATCH
John Cena vs. King Booker vs. Big Show
Choose the title on the line - WWE, World or ECW Heavyweight Championchip |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
With the recent interactions on Raw, it's clear that Cena's title means the
most, and that's what people will vote for. Having him drop the belt to either
Booker or Show makes no sense whatsoever, so look for him to retain.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: ECW World Heavyweight Title - We know they're pushing for Cena's
title to be on the line, but come on - the smarts have unlimited voting power
here, and there's nothing they'd like to see more than Cena be torn apart in
ECW once again, so Cena pins Big Show, allowing him to get the rest he desperately
needs.
Mike Mastrandrea
Big Show is hurting and is getting ready to drop the belt to RVD at the ECW
December PPV. Batista is gaining the fans backing again so he should be winning
the Smackdown title shortly. Cena is just...well, Cena so he will come through
yet again with another "epic" battle win for his title.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Cena's WWE title on the line - Not sure you can
take the title off any one of these guys. I'm becoming a big fan of Booker,
so if there is to be a new champ, I like the Book. A screwy ending is likely
to keep the belts on all three champions, though.

TAG TEAM GRUDGE MATCH
D-Generation X vs. Edge/Randy Orton
Choose the referee - Vince McMahon, Jonathan Coachman, Eric Bischoff |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
With Bischoff screwing DX the other week, and nobody caring about Coach, look
for Vince to put on the stripes. He tries to screw DX during the match, they
retaliate and Edge and Orton sneak in a win (rematch at Survivor Series).
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Bischoff - If the much rumoured nWo/DX Survivor Series were to
happen, this is where it would kick off. Regardless of whether the "dream
feud" actually happens or not, Eric screws DX here.
Mike Mastrandrea
McMahon, being one of the most over men in WWE, will be the special ref and
aid Edge and Orton to a win. Of course, DX will have get their win back at next
month's more-watched and more popular PPV, Survior Series.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Special ref will be Vince McMahon - This is interesting.
Should Vince ref the match, does he side with Orton and Edge or does he pull
a face turn and join his son-in-law? The DX angle, though it pains me to say
this, is getting sort of stale, so hopefully the heels go over. The special
ref may have a say.

INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
Jeff Hardy vs. ???
Choose the opponent - Carlito, Shelton Benjamin, Johnny Nitro |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
This could be a strong sleeper match if both guys are on their game. Hardy has
seemed motivated lately, and Carlito keeps stepping up his game every night. Carlito
takes the gold.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Carlito - Carlito is red hot right now, and as much as the Hardy/Nitro
matches were stellar, the prospects for Hardy/Carlito are looking very strong.
It's sad that the IC title resembles the X-Division more than the Cruiserweight
do these days. Carlito takes the strap.
Mike Mastrandrea
Unfortunately, the belt and all of these combantants are lost in the IC title
shuffle. We have not been given any reason as to why we should care about what's
going on here. Carlito is selling a whole bunch of t-shirts so expect him to be
chosen.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Carlito - Is it too soon to take the strap off Hardy?
Nah, I see a switch here as Junior Colon beats Hardy, perhaps with some cheating
shenanigans.

CHALLENGE MATCH
Umaga vs. ???
Choose the opponent - Chris Benoit, Sandman, Kane |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
I doubt people will remember that Kane and Umaga have had history, and I figure
most people don't see Sandman as a legitimate threat. Umaga's streak continues
after beating Benoit.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Sandman - Look, I like Benoit, but I don't want him to be beaten
by Umaga, nor do I want to see the U.S. Title cheapened. Sandman is the most obvious
fall guy, since smarts are not going to like the prospect of Kane "getting
his win back" against the Samoan Bulldozer.
Mike Mastrandrea
Benoit should get the nod by the fans. Hopefully we will be treated to a stiff
bout and witness Umaga's undefeated streak come to an end.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Sandman is the obvious choice to face Umaga. He'll
also be the latest victim to go down to the Samoan Spike.

WOMEN'S TITLE MATCH
Mickie James vs. Lita
Pick the match - Lumberjills, Submission, No Disqualification |
|
|
WHAT YOU THINK
|
|
Who will win at CyberSunday in the main event?
John Cena - 50%
Big Show - 5%
King Booker - 10%
No winner - 35%
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
A Submission match could be great, but I think people will vote to see more girls.
Lita wins.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Submission - This is where the smart vote will really count. If
we get the Submission match, then we know who voted most. More than likely, however,
the pubescent males will vote for the Lumberjills. I'll give WWE props though
for avoiding the lame pick-the-outfit stip this year and letting the ladies have
some dignity.
Mike Mastrandrea
With Lita leaving next month I don't see her winning the belt, so Mickie
James goes over in a Lumberjills match. It sure would be fun to see a submission
match though. Lou Thesz would be turning in his grave.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Lumberjill Match - Mickie gets her belt back by beating
a soon-to-be departing Lita.

WORLD TAG-TEAM TITLE MATCH
Sprit Squad vs. Ric Flair/???
Pick Flair's partner - Roddy Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, Dusty Rhodes |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Piper's more popular with WWE fans than Rhodes, so look for him to get the call.
Spirt Squad retain.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Dusty Rhodes - I really don't want to see this match, because it's
just going to make the Squad look like a bunch of jobbers. Dusty is by far the
most over of the choices and there's always the possibility of a Flair turn. Spirit
Squad get to the pay window.
Mike Mastrandrea
Don't expect the titles to change hands but allow me to say that Dusty
and Flair are going over big time on this one
if you willlll!!!
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Piper - I can't see Flair and another oldie but goody
winning gold, so the Squad retains.
| |
FOUR-TEAM TAG-TEAM TITLE MATCH
Cryme Tyme vs. The Highlanders vs. Lance Cade/Trevor Murdoch vs. Charlie
Haas/Viscera
Pick the match - Fatal-4-way, Elimination, Texas Tornado |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Regardless of the stipulation, Cryme Time wins.
Jon Waldman
Jon's Choice: Texas Tornado - As much as an elimination match would rock, the
teams are only going to get five or six minutes to strut their stuff. Tornado
has some strong possibilities.
Mike Mastrandrea
Its Cryme Tyme - the only shining light in a very weak Tag Team division.
Matt Mackinder
Matt's Choice: Texas Tornado - One of the face teams should go over
and take the tag belts soon. I'll go with Rory and Robbie here.
