Smackdown: Batista & Cena slaughter the King
By ANDY McNAMARA - SLAM! Wrestling

A co-brand main event takes the spotlight, with ECW champ Big Show teaming up with World champion King Booker against Raw's WWE champ John Cena and Batista. Will we see a full out preview of Cyber Sunday's big match? GM Teddy Long also finds a way to shut up Mr. Kennedy, but who is up to that challenge? Finally, it wouldn't be Halloween without a Diva costume match, and that's exactly what we will get. From St. Louis, get ready for Smackdown!

The Animal Batista starts things off by recapping how he had to give up the title 10 months ago due to injury. He says that Finlay has been a thorn in his side for too long and challenges him to fight. But it is Paul Heyman and two riot guards who come out instead. He runs down the tag team main event match with Big Show and King Booker taking on Batista and John Cena. Heyman says GM Teddy Long has been holding Batista back and makes him an offer to join ECW. The Animal declines the offer by taking out the riot guards and scaring off Heyman. Big Show rushes in and tries for the chokeslam, but Batista turns it into a chokeslam. King Booker then joins the mayhem followed by John Cena, and before you know it Batista and Cena have cleared the ring.

Match 1: Bobby Lashley & Tatanka vs. William Regal & Dave Taylor

Dave Taylor and Regal are old friends from England and are two tough men. Taylor clotheslines Lashley when Regal throws the former U.S. champ to the outside. Tatanka gets the hot tag and rips away on Regal and Taylor. Out of nowhere Regal pins Tatanka and with an assist from Dave Taylor, and the Englishmen are able to cheat out a win. Tatanka has had enough with the apparent officiating conspiracy against him and punches the referee! Lashley tries to talk some sense into him but the Native American attacks him as well, finishing him off with a low blow.

WINNERS: William Regal & Dave Taylor

Kristal interviews United States champion Chris Benoit about his potential match at Cyber Sunday versus Umaga. Benoit sees Vickie Guerrero and is disappointed when she doesn't act excited to see him. The Wolverine questions Vickie on her recent actions, and she tells Chris that he wasn't as close to Eddie as he thought he was.

MVP tells Teddy Long that he has to take a sick day, as stipulated in his contract, and therefore cannot have a no disqualification match tonight. Ken Kennedy bursts in and wants The Undertaker, who he knows is not there. Long decides to put Kennedy in a no DQ match against Kane tonight.

Match 2 -- Non-Title: Matt Hardy vs. Gregory Helms

This feud continues and for some reason is yet again not for the Cruiserweight title. Hardy smacks around his former friend quickly with a running bulldog. The champ is able to rebound just as fast with a clothesline on the outside and then a flying crossbody for a two count. Action goes back and forth when Hardy and Helms exchange reversals on their respective finishers. Following a Hardy Samoan drop Helms rolls over and grabs the rope to steal the victory.

WINNER: Gregory Helms

Match 3 -- No Disqualification: Kane vs. Ken Kennedy

Kane snaps on a neck hang to his mouthy opponent and is picking Kennedy apart. Mr. Kennedy works over Kane's left knee and further punishes the big man with a chair shot to the leg off the steel post. Despite his limp Kane climbs to the top rope for a clothesline but is pushed off by MVP. Kane goes for the chokeslam but MVP jumps back in and hits him in the knee with a steel chair. Kennedy simply falls on top and gets the three count.

WINNER: Ken Kennedy

John Cena says he has Batista's back tonight. Batista calls him sappy and Cena runs him down for slacking it since he came back from the injury. The Raw champion fires up The Animal and they are ready for the main event later tonight.

Chavo recaps how he destroyed Rey Mysterio on last week's show and made him say "I Quit." Chris Benoit storms in the ring and ignores him while clearing the ring.

Match 4 -- Halloween Diva Costume Battle Royal

Michelle McCool eliminates Ashley and in about two minutes it is down to Layla and Kristal. Layla tries to suplex Kristal outside while on the apron but the Miz (who is the special guest referee) pulls Layla down. Your winner is Kristal. Following the commercials out comes The Boogeyman and eats worms ... then poor Kristal gets them all over her.

WINNER: Kristal

King Booker and Big Show argue in the hall about their match as a team tonight and about the three way battle with John Cena at Cyber Sunday.

Match 5 -- Main Event: King Booker w/ Queen Sharmell & Big Show vs. John Cena & Batista

King Booker and John Cena start off this blockbuster with the Raw champion scoring a flying hip toss and then tagging out to Batista. The babyfaces are working well together with quick tags and effective double-teaming on the King. After the break Booker is still isolated in the ring and is being punished by the Raw/Smackdown duo. Finally The Big Show gets in the action and is able to beat down Cena to put control back into his team's hands. King Booker tries to wear down Cena with a sleeper in the middle of the ring ... naturally the WWE champion is energized by the crowd and suplexes his way out. Booker goes to tag in Big Show and the giant pulls away, glares at Book, and walks away. Unfortunately for the World Heavyweight champion this distraction gives Cena time to tag in The Animal who delivers a running powerslam within moments. A spinebuster follows, and then Cena comes in for a Five Knuckle Shuffle. Batista then finishes off King Booker with a huge Batista Bomb. Cena and Batista celebrate while Big Show stares angrily at the fallen king.

WINNERS: John Cena & Batista
