Booker's fit to be a king
By TIM BAINES - Ottawa Sun

When you're royalty, you don't really want to be rhyming off ghetto talk like: "Can you dig that, sucka?"

Not when you wear a crown and you've developed a British accent.

Robert Booker Tio Huffman is having a lot of fun in his royalty role as King Booker on WWE's Smackdown!

"I'm loving it, it's always good to be the champ," he said. "I'm taking the king role to a different level.

"For that moment on TV, I totally believe I'm the king. If I didn't act like the king, people wouldn't buy into it. I was always acting as a kid ... I did different voices ... so this gives me a chance to do some of that acting."

King Booker, who was on hand for the WWE tryouts in Ottawa, said it's a great way for WWE wannabes to try to hit the big time.

"I worked for $10 here and $20 there," he said. "This is the easiest way. It's like a lottery ticket for these guys."

- It was shocking. TNA delivered on its promise of a "big announcement" when it signed Kurt Angle, who left/was forced to leave WWE because of "personal issues." Angle fought a battle with painkillers, but now says he's ready to go. Said Angle in a press release: "Being with TNA feels like I have finally found my home. I had fun in WWE at certain times, but I was never really happy. I don't feel trapped or held back like I did the first six years in my tenure with the other company. They held me back. Now, our wonderful audience will see the real Kurt Angle doing what I love to do -- real wrestling -- and that's what puts a smile on my face each time I come to work. I even smile when I think about it. Thank you TNA for saving my career, my life and my desire to do what I love. I will be here in some capacity for the rest of my life. That's real ... that's damn real." So get the "you suck" chants ready.

- While trainer/wrestler Fit Finlay lowered the boom on hopefuls at the WWE tryout in Ottawa, James Champagne delivered what may have been the best promo. The "Vanilla Killa" said he used to look up to Chris Jericho, The Ayatollah of Rock and Rollah, but "he's just like blueberry Eggos, you get sick of it." Way to go, James! In another promo, Flesh (Paul Cozier) promised he'd be "breakin' necks and cashin' cheques."

- Here are the results from TNA's No Surrender pay-per-view: Eric Young beat A1; Jay Lethal defeated Petey Williams; Abyss beat Raven and Brother Runt; The Naturals beat America's Most Wanted (the other participants in the triple chance battle royal were The James Gang, The Paparazzi, The Diamonds In The Rough, Matt Bentley and Frankie Kazarian, Ron Killings and Lance Hoyt and Shark Boy and Norman Smiley; Senshi beat Chris Sabin; Christian Cage beat Rhino; AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels beat The Latin American Exchange to win the tag titles; and Samoa Joe beat Jeff Jarrett in a non-title match.

- WWE has released David Cash (Kid Kash).

- Montel Vontavious Porter (MVP) has been signed by Smackdown!

- A power outage created some awkward moments on Monday Night RAW from Oklahoma City.

- Rikishi (Solafu Fatu Jr.)was arrested by U.S. marshals after (at risk of confusing everyone with legal jargon) failing to appear at a show cause hearing, carrying a charge of civil contempt.

- After a long summer off, CPW is back for an Oct. 7 show -- at the new CPW Arena in the Village Greber complex at 325 Greber Blvd. (corner Maloney W Blvd.) in Gatineau. The main event is Tray Hugh Mongus vs. Drake Styles. Other matches include Triforce vs. The Twin Terrors; Player Uno vs. Don Paysan; and Sudden Impact Trauma Unit. Misty Haven also has an open contract to defend her women's title. For more details, check out cpwinternational.net.
