Impact: Tag belts land at LAX
By CHRIS SOKOL -- SLAM! Wrestling
LAX looks to redeem themselves after a crucial loss to AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels at Hard Justice. TNA management is giving them another crack at the tag straps, this time with No DQ. Will LAX climb the ladder to success, or will the straps elude them once again? Read the report and find out.
Outside the Impact Zone, Jeremy Borash stood by with Brother Runt, who challenged "The Monster" Abyss to a 10,000 Thumbtack match on the next edition of Impact. After Runt was done venting, Raven was found sitting on top of the production area, smiling down on him. Is a flock reforming?
A recap was shown of the last edition of Impact, where Jeff Jarrett laid down the gauntlet to Sting, challenging him title vs. career match.
"The Franchise" Shane Douglas came out and put over The Naturals, leading to...
Match One - The Naturals (Andy Douglas and Chase Stevens) vs. The Papparazzi (Alex Shelley and "Hotshot" Johnny Devine)
The Naturals came out hot, taking it to Devine in the early goings. Back from break and it was all Shelley and Devine. Stevens attempted a powerbomb, but had his legs taken out from under him. Devine came in and rolled up the stunned Stevens for the win. After the match, Shane Douglas hit the ring and berated The Naturals.
Winners Via Pinfall - The Papparazzi (Alex Shelley and "Hotshot" Johnny Devine)
In the back, Jeremy Borash asked AMW what was going on. They said that they had their differences, but they were brothers and they were going to work through it. They saluted each other with a bottle of beer and walked off with a happy Gail Kim.
A promo came on to hype Bound For Glory. (The SLAM! Wrestling bus trip from Toronto to Detroit has already sold out!).
Christian Cage came out and ran down Sting, before being joined by "The War Machine" Rhino. Rhino rebutted Cage's statements, claiming that Cage was wrong. Rhino grabbed a chair, but threw it down. Rhino told Cage that he didn't need a chair to kick his ass. Rhino then hit Cage with a few shots, before going for the Gore. Instead of hitting the Gore, he was met in the head with a steel chair, that cut him open. Cage held Rhino's head as the blood dripped down, smiling about his actions. Great heel turn for Cage thus far.
Next up was a video package that highlighted the Earl Hebner/Mark "Slick" Johnson/Larry Zbyzsko/Jim Cornette angle. Borash interviewed Zbyzsko who had no answers about Hebner, but hoped that Johnson would get fired. "Showtime" Eric Young walked in and was told by Zbyzsko that he had a match on the next edition of Impact, and if he lost, he might as well pack his bags.
They recapped the beating that Christian Cage delivered to Rhino. Good stuff.
Match Two - "The Monster" Abyss vs. Cassidy Riley
Father James Mitchell was on commentary for this, as Abyss destroyed Riley. Afterwards, Abyss poured tacks into the ring and slammed his fist into them.
Winner Via Pinfall - "The Monster" Abyss
Christy Hemme said that when the commercials were over with, Sting would have an answer for Jeff Jarrett and the tag straps would be on the line.
A pre-taped Sting promo was shown, with Sting saying that he accepted Jarrett's challenge. Sting said the contract only needed one more signature, and it wasn't his. I expect a DQ finish. It's the easiest way to pull this off. Sting and Cage need to feud.
Mike Tenay held the contract for the match signed by Sting, Jeff Jarrett came out and looked at it and promised a public execution of the contract on the next edition of Impact.
A recap of the LAX/Styles and Daniels feud was shown, leading into...
Match Three - Border Brawl for the NWA World Tag Team Championship - LAX ("The Notorious 187" Homicide and Hernandez) w/ Konnan vs. "The Phenomenal" AJ Styles and "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels (C)
Excellent and entertaining street fight type match. These teams gel real well together. Styles and Daniels were busted open, slammed into chairs and tables. Great way to cap off Impact. Daniels and Homicide set up a table and climbed the ropes, Konnan hit Daniels with the slapjack, allowing Homicide to hit the Ace Crusher off the top rope through the table to pick up the win and the titles. .
Winners Via Pinfall and NEW NWA World Tag Team Champions - LAX ("The Notorious 187" Homicide and Hernandez)
A promo was shown for the 10,000 Thumbtack Match on the next edition of Impact.
Chris Sokol is from Long Island, NY and has traveled with Bob Kapur before. He wonders if the SLAM! Wrestling bus trip will be as exciting as previous Kapur adventures.
