Countdown to WWE Summerslam
By

|
Once again, WWE heads to pay-per-view, this time with what is arguably their
second most important show of the year.
Yes, Summerslam has finally arrived and we can all sit back and watch what
will be the first-ever WWE show where three World Heavyweight Championships
will be decided. There are a variety of other matches that have drawn interest
as well, so let's get straight to the preview.

WWE HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
John Cena vs. Edge |
| |
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
This feud has been built up pretty well. If nothing else, it's got Cena back
to full-fledged hero, and nobody would have predicted that a few months ago.
And much of that credit has to go to Edge, for playing his part perfectly. I
think this will be the night Cena delivers Edge some much-needed comeuppance
by taking the belt.
Matt Mackinder
I don't think this feud ends just yet. If Edge gets DQ'd, he drops the belt,
but I don't think that rule comes into play. Maybe a countout, but Edge retains
somehow. Unforgiven may have a gimmick match to end this feud, that, though
solid, has run its course.
Jon Waldman
Well, Edge had my vote until he ripped on the Winnipeg Jets on Raw. That's
a big no-no Mr. Copeland. Leafs suck and you're losing your title.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Batista vs. King Booker |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
Booker T has got to be considered the MVP of Smackdown. He and Sharmell have
played up the King gimmick amazingly. It won't help him, though, against the
juggernaut that is Big Dave. Batista dethrones the King.
Matt Mackinder
Batista says he never lost the belt and tonight he starts his second title reign.
Booker should take his king gimmick and run with that as the World Title doesn't
really fit. One thing at a time, Vince.
Jon Waldman
It's hard for WWE to flip two major titles in one show, but from the looks of
the first match and the ECW bout, they'll pull it off; meaning King Booker and
the M.A.D.E. keep their reign going.

ECW WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH
Big Show vs. Sabu |
|
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
This should be a pretty ugly affair. All the chairs, tables and barbed wire can't
hide the suckdom that is Show. Look for interference from RVD which turns into
a three-way that he wins. Classic Heyman booking.
Matt Mackinder
If Kurt Angle doesn't get involved, I'll be surprised. Rob Van Dam may
also make an appearance, but it won't matter. Big Show retains and Sabu botches
more aerial moves.
Jon Waldman
Well, we know RVD will get involved, but who will he battle? Will he take out
Big Show in order to fight back against Paul Heyman, or will he take out Sabu,
someone as he sees as an obstacle. Sabu will likely go over here, but you know
it's going to be a bit screwy.
SLAM! Predictions
Bob Kapur
D-Generation X vs. The McMahons - I'm ashamed to admit it, but I'm a complete
D-X fan. They win.
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton - Oh, gee, I wonder. Hogan on the card? Hogan wins.
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair (I Quit) - Foley submits like his good pal and hero
Terry Funk did all those
years ago. Should be a bloodbath.
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero - No winner - this one is too hot to contain
in the ring, and they
both get counted out.
Matt Mackinder
D-Generation X vs. The McMahons - Like Cena and Edge, this feud needs to
end. DX all the way.
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton - Who jobs? I say Orton takes the fall.
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair (I Quit) - Could be the sleeper match of the night.
Flair quits.
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero - Chavo cheats to get the duke, making Eddie
proud yet again.
Jon Waldman
D-Generation X vs. The McMahons - DX has to win here for any cred. Unfortunately,
the feud will continue, especially after HBK is injured by Umaga.
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton - If there was any justice in the world, Orton
would win. That won't happen, unless Hogan blows out his knee for good.
Mick Foley vs. Ric Flair (I Quit) - Remember the Rock/Foley I Quit match with
the voice-over? Same thing here. Flair wins.
Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero - Chavito goes over.
