Nitro asked to predict SummerSlam winners
By TJ MADIGAN - Calgary Sun

Johnny Nitro

Johnny Nitro doesn't have a match at SummerSlam tomorrow.

His TV character would probably throw a tantrum over such a miscarriage of justice but, behind the scenes, Nitro doesn't seem too stressed about the situation.

"There's a possibility I'll get a match at the show," he told the Calgary Sun.

"But not likely."

His sideline status is hardly a thumbs-down from WWE execs.

Nitro is still the Intercontinental champ, tangled up in a top-tier program with Trish Stratus and Carlito.

It's more a case of the SummerSlam card being so loaded even headliners such as The Undertaker aren't getting a spot on the pay-per-view.

But in case there are any hard feelings, we gave Nitro a special SummerSlam assignment. Today, he is the Calgary Sun's expert grappling analyst for our preview of the big event.

Granted, his predictions were at least 90% in character but, as someone who's privy to inside WWE information, that's the only way he could speculate about the results and still eat lunch at WWE headquarters tomorrow.

For those looking for cryptic storyline hints from a top WWE star, this article could make for interesting Monday morning reading.

The first question is about the main event of the show. Even the highest-level wrestling insiders still don't know whether Hulk Hogan is willing to stare at the ceiling and take a loss to Randy Orton in the main event. Maybe Nitro could shed some light on the subject?

"I'm going to give the main event to Orton," Nitro said, without acknowledging the pair are good friends outside the ring. "He's The Legend Killer. Hulkamania is the biggest legend in wrestling. Orton has to come out on top."

For the WWE title match between champion Edge and challenger John Cena, Nitro put his money on the Rated R Superstar.

"This one goes to Edge. It's really a match with Cena taking on both Edge and Lita. I think that's going to be the difference maker."

Nitro wasn't so decisive when it came to the tag-team battle, DX vs. Vince and Shane McMahon.

"That's a tough call," he said. "You'd think DX is going to take it, hands down, but the McMahons have unlimited resources. They can get help from anyone on the roster, anytime they want."

(For anyone reading between the lines, there may be some foreshadowing there.)

"I'm gonna give that one to DX, though," he finally decided.

Moving on to Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero's grudge match, Nitro sided with the good guy.

"I was always a big fan of Rey and he always has something up his sleeve. Rey is my pick to win."

Nitro was involved in the build-up for the hardcore 'I quit' match between Mick Foley and Ric Flair and he's sticking to the storyline when it comes to calling the winner.

"That one's going to Mick Foley, for sure," he said. "Ric Flair has overstayed his welcome in professional wrestling and this whole match reeks of Foley. Flair is out of his element."

Finally, on Batista's challenge for Booker T's world title, Nitro thinks Batista is going to take the win. For no other reason than, as he so eloquently put it: "Because Booker sucks."

SummerSlam can be seen at 6 p.m. MT tomorrow on pay-per-view, at select city movie theatres and Bottoms Up Sports Pub.
